Playwright and poet Robert Bowie, Jr. set himself an exercise: to write a sonnet a week for a year. Since none of these poems were intended to see the light of day, there was no self-censorship, and the topics tended to be whatever was on his mind Sunday night while working to meet his deadline. Looking back, he discovered that his focus on learning and adhering to the form gave him an unexpected entryway into his subconscious — an "accidental diary."
