I believe the basic teachings of Science of Mind are:

All there is, is God (or First Cause, Mind, Spirit, or whatever we choose to call It.)

Since God Is - I am and

Since I am - I create.

These three basic Truths work in the four basic areas of our lives: prosperity, health, relationships and creativity.

Let's start with prosperity.

The media would have us think prosperity is eating in four star restaurants whenever we want, owning our own home, having a condo in a warmer climate, traveling the world in our own personal Learjet, wearing designer clothing ,and driving a high-end vehicle. However, to many it means having the money to pay the rent and have food in the refrigerator. To others, it might mean warm clothing and water. Prosperity is definitely an individual thing. The late, great, Dr. Raymond Charles Barker, once wrote, "Prosperity is being able to do what I want, when I want, with whom I want." I like this definition! It is a consciousness, not the effects.

Taking our three concepts in the first paragraph, let's look at this idea. God is absolutely everything. There is nothing that is not God. Knowing this, we can look outside our window at the beauty around us and realize that the Nature of God is abundance. Using Nature as an example of the "givingness" of God, we see there is always more than enough of everything to go around and more.

God is prosperity, therefore I am prosperity – I receive the action of Spirit and give it out in return. I am always creating an abundance of something. Maybe it's an abundance of supply; maybe it's an abundance of lack. It's my choice.

In our creativity, the natural abundance of the Universe is filtered through the medium of our beliefs. If we want to live more prosperously, we might ask ourselves, "What does living prosperously mean to me? What do I believe I have to do to feel more prosperous? Do I believe there is always more than enough? Do I believe that God always says 'Yes'?"

The motto of Religious Science is Change your thinking, change your life. Our teaching about prosperity is to look at our desires, examine our beliefs around those desires, and change what needs to be changed in order to have the consciousness of what we desire. Once we have the consciousness, we have the effect!

I live in an Infinitely Abundant Universe. Abundance is God – and God is absolutely everywhere. I see the beauty of Nature and realize God is the Great Giver and the Great Receiver. As an expression of God, it is my Divine Birthright to be the same.

I declare I am a Great Receiver. I open my arms, my heart and my mind to the giving-ness of the Divine. I choose what I want to experience. The Universe says "Yes!" and I receive. Nothing except for myself can stop me, therefore I now declare that any subjective beliefs I might have been holding onto are released, and I freely experience my good.

I declare I am a Great Giver. As I receive, I joyfully bless my world by taking part in the Divine Givingness. I know there is always more than enough, so I do not have to hold on to anything. All my previous thoughts of lack or limitation are released easily and eff ortlessly, and I share my good with a great sense of delight.

How grateful I am to be experiencing and sharing the Infinite Abundance of the Universe. I am thankful for having the consciousness of prosperity.

And so It is.

Continuing the discussion of how the three basic Truths – All there is, is God. Since God Is – I am. Since I am – I create – work in the four basic areas of our lives, this week, I'd like to focus on health.

We live in a time where illness is considered normal. We have "seasons" for particular viruses. The concept of peacefully dying in our sleep is never mentioned. It is "bad" to eat salt, sugar, fat, meat and a multitude of other things. And oh dear, don't let a wrinkle appear!

What's all this about? I believe it's our outpicturing of the consciousness of fear. In other words, health is not just a physical thing – it's a mental thing, too.

If we really believed in the first concept – All there is – is God – there would be no fear about outside entities (germs, viruses, pollution, etc.) that could harm us in any way. I'm not saying these things are not here – they are. Yet for some reason, we've created them to be "bad." God is totally on our side – It is our own Self and It is everything around us. If God be for us, what could be against us?

Once again, we are faced with our consciousness. (Oh, that's an interesting phrase ... I am "faced" with my consciousness – my "face" is the image of me I present to the world.) All the things I have judged as "bad", must behave that way for me, because All there is, is God .... and God's only response is YES! If we really knew we were God Incarnate, the expression of the Divine as humanity, and that we are creating our world as we go ... we'd reprogram our beliefs and re-create our world.

Again we must ask ourselves, "What does living as a healthy human mean to me? What do I believe I have to do to feel healthier?" Whatever we believe we must do, we'd bett er do it, because that is the Law of our Being we have set up for ourselves. For example, if I believe I must go for a walk everyday to keep fl exible as I age, then those days I do not, my body responds by being stiff and achy. I must follow my own rules. "What am I afraid of in living a healthy life?" (like fear of wrinkles: no longer being desirable. Fear of germs: being out of control)

Our teaching about health is that it is the natural state of the body. Dr. Holmes wrote: "The spiritual man needs no healing, health is an omnipresent reality, and when the obstructions that hinder healing are removed, it will be found that health was there all the time." Once we have the consciousness, we have the effect!

God is all there is. It is the One Power, Presence, and Intelligence in the Universe. It is unchangeable as there is nothing for It to change into except Itself. It is Life Itself and I know this Life is my life.

Therefore I declare that anything I thought was wrong with my life is now gone. I have changed my thinking about who and what I am. Nothing in the collective consciousness of humanity can change my Truth – I am perfect health.

Nothing outside of me has any power over me – it is all God and it is all Good and It is tailor-made just for me, by me.

I rejoice in the Vitality of God Life moving through my body. I give thanks for the easy living in this body. I am the out-picturing of a Divine Idea of perfect, natural health.

And so It is.

This week in our discussion of how the three basic Truths – All there is, is God ... Since God Is – I am ... Since I am – I create – work in the four basic areas of our lives, we'll focus on the third area – Love.

There are so many types of love, I'm only going to write about one – relationships with a significant other.

Being an avid internet surfer, I'm amazed at the proliferation of sites dedicated to helping us find Mr/Ms Right. Anyone who looks at the junk mail that comes through our e-mail sites must oft en chuckle, or even gasp in shock as I do, when reading the subject lines that mention making things bigger to impress others, and so on.

It seems that much of humanity believes our happiness comes from outside of ourselves. It comes in the form of the perfect mate. "When I find him/her, I will live happily ever after." Some of us have held that belief through a series of relationships.

I do believe there is a common soul-hunger for love. It is because we've forgott en what we are here for: To experience Love and Loving on a much larger scale. To realize that Love is who we are.

If we really believed in the first concept – All there is – is God – we would realize that our soul's hunger is basically for our conscious recognition of our Self as Love. Some of you might remember the colorful black light posters from the '70's that declared "God is Love." And how right they were! We're still growing into this awareness, and perhaps it is a life long evolutionary process.

In some teachings, it is said we live either in love or fear – or in Love and the absence of Love. However, Love can never be absent, since Love is all there is. The only reason we feel an absence is that we believe it is possible for it to be absent!

In the glossary of the Science of Mind, Dr. Holmes defines Love like this:

"Love is the self-givingness of the Spirit through the desire of Life to express Itself in terms of creation. Emerson tells us that Love is a synonym for God. We are also told in the New Testament that "He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is love." Love is free from condemnation, even as it is free from fear. Love is a cosmic force whose sweep is irresistible."

Our teaching about Love is that it is the natural expression of Spirit in through and as us. We don't have to DO anything to deserve it, or to att ract it, except BE it! Choose now to open your heart wider than ever before! Receive It, FEEL It and let Divine Love pass though you with great Joy. WE are the cosmic force whose sweep is irresistible!

God is Love. My life is God's Life, therefore I am Love. Love gives Itself to me, through me.

What ever I believed about love that kept me in bondage is now released. The pain I have carried because of past loves is released. I am now a clear channel for Divine Love to move into my experience of Life with ease. I no longer feel a need to look outside of myself for what I am. I am Love – loving and beloved.

I celebrate a greater understanding of Love, a deeper feeling of Love. I share Love gratefully. All of my relationships now refl ect this Love, and it is good.

With a loving heart, I release these words knowing they are so.

And so It is.

This is the last of our discussions on how the three basic Truths – All there is, is God ... Since God Is – I am ... Since I am – I create – work in the four basic areas of our lives, as we focus on the fourth area – Right Livelihood.

I believe each of us came to this experience with particular gifts. Some of us have developed and shared them, some of us have believed that the gifts they had to share wouldn't pay the bills, and found something to do that will.

In everyone's life there comes at least one time of Divine Discontent. During this time one either lives with it or makes a dramatic life change. Maybe we smile and say, "Oh, they're going thru a mid-life crisis." I think this period is when the belief of "I have to work hard to make a living" is revealed as a lie. We are so fortunate to live in an age that is starting to understand that this belief no longer serves us. Indeed the only place we have to work hard is in consciousness – and that is only until we realize that Principle always has and always will do the work for us, by working through us. Spirit within us begins to guide us into the place in consciousness where we can do what Joseph Campbell said best: "Follow Your Bliss."

Someone once asked me ,"If everyone followed their bliss, who'd get the work done?" We live in a world that is naturally balanced. Do we think Spirit would create all chefs and no dishwashers? Dr. Holmes wrote, "The scientist discovers the principles of his science, the artist embodies the spirit of his art, the saint draws Christ into his being – all because they have courted the particular presence of some definite concept. Each state of consciousness taps the same source, but has a different receptivity."

Our teaching about Right Livelihood is that our gift s are the natural expression of Spirit in, through, and as us. And Spirit will have Its way with us, either by a glorious experience of sharing those gift s, or a deep hunger for expression that we have to live with. We can move into alignment with our soul by first remembering that absolutely any job is God expressing as that job for us and through us, and working in that job with the consciousness of serving for the highest and best for all concerned. We can choose to allow ourselves to tap into the Source and be receptive to the inspiration to create our perfect expression. We can trust that as we make it our Intention to honor our gift s, the Universe will provide everything.

Remember – God is all there is, and Since God Is – I am. Since I am – I create.

I, God, expressing as (say your name) am creating and experiencing the perfect soul-satisfying work right now!

We live in an Infinite Field of Creative Potential. God is this Field, and each of us is an expression of It. It is filled with infinite doors of opportunity for us to experience the bliss of our gifts.

Therefore, I make this declaration for us in the first person: I release all fear and doubt about my purpose here, even if I don't 'know' what that purpose is. I am ready and willing to share my personal gift s. I open my heart and mind to both believe and feel that my sharing is possible. I offer my heart, my mind, and my hands to the Infinitely Intelligent Loving Presence that moves through me, creating my world. I am ready to serve and I choose to do it in a way that is soul-satisfying!

With a grateful heart, I release these words, knowing they are already done. I celebrate Following My Bliss, knowing that my Bliss is absolute attunement with the Divine.

And So It Is.

I love "firsts" – the first time eating at a new restaurant, the first time hearing a new song, the first time visiting a new shop or a new location, the first time meeting someone, the first new flower on my rosebushes. At my age, I could think that there aren't as many firsts as when I was younger. Yet there are, and there is still something so magical about "first times."

When we're young, we don't have anything with which to compare the new experience; yet as adults we do it all the time, don't we? We constantly compare the present moment to something in our past, and in doing so we take ourselves out of the Now.

Throughout history, many great spiritual teachers throughout history urged us to "live in the Now." I believe this is what Jesus meant when he said, "Come unto me as a little child." A child approaches each event with no conception of how it should be, and is therefore is able to relish each moment.

The Truth is, nothing is ever exactly the same. Each moment is a "first." Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher of the late 6th century BCE, known for his teachings on eternal change, said, "It is not possible to step into the same river twice." And so it is with our lives. Every morning I look out my windows at a beautiful green landscape. Yesterday, I watched a squirrel jump from island to island in the brook in my back yard, then race up and down the cedar trees. The day before, I watched two ducks enjoying the water. Not long ago, I watched a blue heron fishing. I could look out that same window every day at the same time for the rest of my life, and the view would always be different!

So it is with our lives. When we are in the present time, we're conscious. When we're in the past or the future, our bodies continue on automatic, yet we're "asleep." I'm sure you've had the experience of driving somewhere, getting to your destination, and then wondering, "How did I do that?" Our goal is to wake up!

So, how does one stay in the Now? Be where your body is. How simple, yet not so easy! Our minds are always carrying us off into the past or the future. It takes training and discipline to spend quality time right where we are. Here's an exercise: Tonight when you brush your teeth, see how long you can be conscious of what you're doing. I'll bet you have to drag your mind back into the present quite a few times during this simple exercise! And, like any exercise, if you keep it up, you will have great results!

What I know is True, is that the Universe is continually giving, and doing so in the present moment! In order to experience the richness of Life, we must be awake in the present. The old saying still holds true: Today is the first day of the rest of your life! Enjoy the experience fully!
