I have read several books on how difficult the Appalachian Trail is and how only the most physically fit should attempt it. I saw that this book was available and had to read it. This is such a spectacular storytelling. Mr. Ryan has photos he took himself on nearly every other page. Finally I can see what others attempted to write. He has been hiking the trail for 28 years with friends old and new. The photos will inspire you and blow you away.k This book is terrific! It also has some laugh out loud moments. It is full of friendship, perseverance, and inspiration. Thank you to Jeffrey H. Ryan and Word Slinger for giving me a free book to read and give my honest review.

What a great read. Rich in story, historical context, humor and information, this book held my interest with something different at every turn. I'd recommend it to readers of all ages - whether you are a through hiker, day hiker, not a hiker, a kid, retired, in a life you love or stuck in a day job you hate. This man's passage on the Appalachian Trail proves you don't have to do the drastic life change in order to achieve a goal...slow & steady wins the race - and if this hiker's experience is any indication, it may be a more meaningful journey that way.
