Description: This book discusses pathophysiology then transitions nicely into disease processes for students to apply into clinical practice. It includes fantastic photos and great resources for teaching pathophysiology, especially the ones in online format. This second edition is an update to the original version, which was published in 2019.
Purpose: The purpose of the book is to help aspiring nurse practitioners develop a good knowledge base in the pathophysiology of disease. The objective is worthy, and the update is needed as it has been almost five years since the book's original publication.
Audience: The target audience is nurse practitioners. The book's format, starting by reviewing the pathophysiology then explaining the disease process, is the correct approach for this group. The authors are nurse practitioners and/or PhDs, which is important for students to see.
Features: The content is specifically directed to advanced practice nurses. The text itself is simple and direct. Students will find the glossary helpful as well. Visual learners will appreciate the graphics and online resources to promote better understanding of the content.
Assessment: This book is less intimidating than the current one I use for my class, and it warrants switching because I really enjoy the format. The content is concise and straightforward.
