This story is sad but thought-provoking...revenge versus renewal & redemption. It is well-written but incomplete. You should want to buy the next book becase the author made you want to read more but not because you have to in order to conclude the story. It would've received 5 stars were it not for the lame ending.

--Everybody has bad days. Today, Jennifer's involves aterrorist attack on her office building, the deaths of hundreds of her coworkers, and somehow becoming the human face of a Sean used to be the cause of a great many bad days for many bad people over many bad years. He's been stuck in one long bad day of his own ever since his retirement, as his current existence and what is usually referred to as "living" are not as similar as they should be. He sees the attack, as the rest of the world does, on TV. Sees Jennifer rescued from the wreckage. Sees something that awakens the very beast he's been trying to keep calm inside Somebody's going to have a VERY bad day. The way this novel switches back and forth between Jennifer's life after everything changes and Sean doing what guys who were hardcore black op types do to find our evildoers is highly effective. In lesser hands the tones would clash or it would read like two entirely separate books, and thankfully that is not the case here. Jennifer's story is honest, moving, and about finding the strength to get back up again following one of life's more vicious blows. Sean's is an intricate web of espionage, infiltration, and revenge. . .or is it redemption? Fantastic characters. A plot that hurtles you along one moment before it slows down to provide a beautifully observed snapshot of a life in transition. Bittersweet smiles, startled nerves, happy reassurance and fist-clenching thrills abound. Well worth your time, especially if you enjoy things that are really good.

Good book that had plenty of twists & turns. Surprise ending of the main characters, I didn't see that coming.

This was really a phenominal character study. The good with their flaws and uncertainties. The bad with their good points. My problem is not the fact that there is a sequel, because I really want to know what happens to these characters, but in the fact that this is not a "stand alone" novel. It ends in a horrible place without any resolution or closure. Perhaps that was the point? My opinion is that this is a cruel marketing tactic to generate sales for the conclusion. Had the climax had some resolution I would have been delighted to purchase the second book to see how these characters would progress, but with this unsatisfying ending I will not be purchasing the sequel. There is no way a person who has not read the first book can possibly know enough about the main characters to understand them unless there is a large portion of the second book devoted to their back story, in which case why should anyone bother with the first book! This is a huge peeve of mine. A book should be able to stand alone, even if there is a sequel or a series to follow. I will sadly never know what happns to Jennifer, Sean, and Richard as I will not be cajoled into buying a second book because the first had an unsatisfying ending. It's like leaving off in the middle of a sentence! Very bad decision by author and publisher. You've lost a huge fan!

Given To Me For An Honest Review Ashes by Kelly Cozy is a book that will take you to a place you never thought of going to.  Just be sure to be sitting down as you read and  decided when you will stop reading but find your self turning and turning pages and turning more pages until you finish the book.  Jennifer works in a department of the USA Federal Office Tower.  Terrorists bomb the building and Jennifer is the only survivor.  Suffering  survivors guilt she moves out of Los Angeles to Canada to start over.  The story and Jennifer's picture are in the newspaper and is seen  by a former black ops operative (Sean).  He was made to retire but he has not quit.  He makes the decision to find out who committed this  crime.  Jennifer and Sean have never met.  As their paths get closer and closer the suspense increases.  When you get to the end you  are going to find *****CLIFFHANGER***** but never fear I am sure a sequel is in the works.  I am waiting for it.  If you are expecting romance and sex then this book isn't for you.  I gave this book 5 stars but it clearly deserves many more.  I highly recommend this book to  everyone.  I look for more from Kelly Cozy.

Huge disappointment. If you like a book with an actual ending do not read this. There is no ending unless you want to go to the next book!

An interesting concept, well worth exploring. The prose is competent if not exciting, but there are some significant craft flaws in the storytelling. Still, it would have gotten three stars if not for the profoundly annoying cliffhanger that leaves no single part of the storyline completed. Those who feel differently about such surprises will have a better reading experience.
