Violet Winters once had it all but lost it when her husband was murdered by a criminal madman. During a cold winter night Violet has to leave her warm bed to tell her neighbor to turn the music down. And that's when she meets sinister, scarred, scarily attractive security specialist, Joe Callahan. She wants to deny it, but Violet can't beat back the hunger she feels for Joe so she gives in again and again. Feeling it himself, Joe feeds Vi's hunger, breaking his own rules to keep her in his bed.Even though Violet had only one man in her life, she's sure Joe is giving her the signals and Vi decides she's ready to take a second chance at life and, maybe, love. But Violet doesn't know the dark secrets in Joe's past, secrets so soul-wrenching, they've drained him dry. With nothing left to give, Joe's determined to live his life alone and he breaks Violet's heart.Crushed by Joe's betrayal, Violet comes to terms with the fact that, no matter what signals he gave, Joe was not theirs to win. But Violet's husband's murderer is obsessed with her and heartbreak again haunts the door of the Winters home. When it does Joe is forced to face the knowledge that he can't fight Violet's pull, she's under his skin and filled him full to bursting.Joe needs to win her back and put his life on the line to keep Violet safe. But, having had it all once, can Violet endure losing Joe?

About the Author

Kristen Ashley is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She grew up in Indiana, but has lived in Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she's been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least), but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, living in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Violet and her two daughters, Kate and Kiera have just moved from Chicago to a small town in Indiana. Although it's only 4 hours away, it's a world away from the gangster, Daniel Hart, who killed "Tim"; Violet's husband and father to their two teenage daughters. Now, they're on their own but Hart isn't finished with "Vi" (who caught his eye early on.) Now, he wants her for himself and he sets out to find her. Joe "Cal" Callahan lives next door to Vi, Kate and Kiera. He's got his own issues and wants no part of a serious relationship. He's tried that, didn't work, he moved on. Cal's a rugged, tall, and handsome man and when an estranged girlfriend breaks into his house before he arrives and blasts classic rock non-stop; by at 2am, Vi's had enough and tromps over to put an end to it. Vi and Joe arrive about the same time, and Joe lets the woman have it, but not before noticing Vi for himself. Kristen Ashley is fast becoming one of my favorite authors! Her stories suck you in and keep you interested...even when you should be cleaning, cooking or paying attention to your dog, who REALLY needs to go "potty"...STAT!! I will say I thought the book didn't need to be quite so long: (1,400 pages according to my Nook.) However, since it seriously kept my interest, I constantly tried to get back to it as often as possible! The story was great, the character development was even better and you KNEW how they felt and what they wanted. Which was NICE! Sometimes, Ashley's descriptions were exhausting and unnecessary, although, I knew that going into this book since I had just finished her long but great book, Sommersgate House. This was an exciting story, with fantastic humor, serious gangster action and smoking hot sex! Now you know why I couldn't put it down! Loved it!!

Amazing story! I was consumed and could not put it down, time just slipped away as I was lost in this world. Excellent read! Loved Joe and Violet so much. Them coming together was great, learning their histories, and opening up and sharing. It was emotional and full of drama, with lots of ups and downs. My heart might have dropped a few times because they were both battling so many demons, they had me stressing out. Loved their chemistry and bickering. That was fun! Joe and his alpha-male hot guy ways was pretty fantastic too. Loved the schmexy that was mixed in... super hot! And Joe with Violet’s girls, swoon. That man melts my heart. Loved it so much! There was great development throughout for the story and with the characters. Fantastic details and depth. Loved all the layers and different storylines happening. The friendships and families coming together creating all these wonderful moments was awesome. Some funny, some sweet, all perfectly intertwined. I laughed, cried, got choked up, held my breath and rooted for Joe and Violet the entire time. It was just an incredible story. Another Kristen Ashley must read!

One of my all-time favorite books and all-time favorite of Kristen Ashley’s! This book has it all and makes you feel everything. I’m so in love! I cannot properly put into words how I feel about this book! At Peace has absolutely everything I could have ever hoped for. I can’t remember the last time I read a book that made me feel like this. It’s one of those that I knew was special from very early on. I fought with myself over wanting to savor it and wanting to devour it whole. Joe Callahan might be my favorite character ever created. He gave me all the feels! This book made me cry happy and sad tears, it made me laugh, smile, and made me feel warm from the inside out. My heart feels so full! I read the last word and immediately wanted to start the entire book over. Kristen Ashley does so many things well. How she creates these swoon-worthy heroes, so many of them, I will never know. This book has heart, suspense, sexiness, but above all it just oozes love. Nobody makes me feel the way Kristen Ashley does with her words. I loved every single character in this book and I loved watching everybody getting their happy ending. The perfection that was Joe’s happy ending made me cry happy tears. This book is perfection. It’s everything. 6 stars, all-time favorite, must-have-on-my-bookshelf-right-now good! Read it, read it, read it! I fell in love so hard and you will too.

Not a fast-paced drama like her other series, but good. However...the last page or so doesn't really mesh with The Promise with Benny and Frankie's story writren later in the series...?

I love Kristen Ashley's books! They are heartwarming, funny, full of wonderful characters, long very well written stories that make you want to be a part of the lives of the people in each of her stories. I have gotten caught up in all of her books (that I have read so far) if you are like me you will need a hankie while reading this one, but it was so good I forgive KA for making me cry I loved this story so very much! I love every KA book, but this is a favorite of mine. Vi, her girls, and of course, Joe. Every character is well developed and captivating. Plus I really like the update on Feb and Colt from For You. This series is heart wrenching with brutal pasts, but beautiful with discovered new love, and of course a healthy dose of humor to lighten the emotional load a KA book always drops on you.

Violet Winters and her daughters have moved to the 'burg after her husband's death to start fresh. One night having to leave her bed to tell her neighbor to turn down the music is when it happens. She meets her scary Hot neighbor Joe Callahan. The have a back and forth relationship from that moment on pushing and pulling each other. When things heat up between Vi's mob stalker, the same man who killed her husband, finds her she turns to Joe for help. Determined to never fall for another woman who needs "fixed" Joe takes off leaving Vi vulnerable. This was some fast paced emotional roller coaster stuff! Back and forth between Vi and Joe. With many in the mix to shake things up it is never boring. Vi has been through some horrific things in her life and she is still standing....she is a strong, independent woman and I admire that. There was so much to feel with this book.....I laughed out loud waking my husband up in the middle of the night because I couldn't put this down...I cried several times throughout this story...who wouldn't. Love Love Love the 'Burg!
