Atys is a French opera (tragÃ(c)die en musique) in a prologue and five acts by Jean-Baptiste Lully to a libretto by Philippe Quinault, based on Ovid's Fasti. It was first performed on 24 April 1676 at Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

Atys is considered by some to be Lully's masterpiece. The opera tells the story of Atys, a beautiful youth loved by the goddess Cybèle. However, Cybèle jealously demands Atys's complete devotion, leading to tragic consequences when he falls in love with the nymph Sangarid...
