Muhammad Ali Pascha (türkisch Mehmet Ali Pascha) war 1805 bis 1848 Vizekönig von Ägypten sowie osmanischer Pascha. Er begründete die bis 1953 regierende ägyptische Herrscherdynastie und erreichte eine relative Unabhängigkeit Ägyptens vom Osmanischen Reich. Pückler-Muskau erzählt hier von seiner Reise durch Ägypten und den Sudan um 1840.
