Overview

Bad Publicity by Joanne Sydney Lessner

In the world of PR, there's only one crime worse than killing a deal--killing a client.

Aspiring actress and office temp Isobel Spice finds a warm welcome at Dove & Flight Public Relations, thanks to her old school friend Katrina Campbell. However, the atmosphere chills considerably when Isobel unwittingly serves an important client a deadly dose of poisoned coffee. Her stalwart temp agent, James Cooke, rushes to her aid, but balks when he learns that the victim was the fraternity brother who got him expelled from college. News that Dove & Flight is being acquired by an international conglomerate quickly supplants the murder as the hot topic of office gossip, but Isobel is convinced the two events are related. When all roads of inquiry lead back to Katrina, Isobel is forced to consider the possibility that her friend's killer instincts go beyond public relations.

Please note: this is a cozy mystery with an edge; contains some adult language.

Title: Bad Publicity Author: Joanne Sydney Lessner Publisher: Dulcet Press Isobel Spice, an aspiring actress, is working as a temp at Dove and Flight Public Relations Firm. She walks into the conference room to place a snack tray and finds Jason Whiteley slumped over his coffee, the same coffee Isobel had just served him. Isobel fears Jason may have been poisoned by the coffee. A belief that is dispelled by the Medical Examiner, who states that it was a natural death. A statement Isobel strongly disagrees with. How can a 28 year old man in relatively good health drop dead from a coronary for no apparent reason. Isobel begins asking questions even though she promised her boss at Temp Zone, James Cooke told her to leave it strictly to the authorities. Shumann, Crowe & Dyer, for whom Jason was the internal communications directer, was known to be a difficult and bothersome client. Jason was disliked by many, including Aaron Grossman, Liz Stevens, Isobel's college friend Katrina Campbell, and James Cooke who knew Jason in college and held Jason in very low esteem and blamed for being expelled from college because of misconduct. Misconduct Jason was also guily of, but was able to skate by on because of his family's money and social position. James, begins to question Jason's death as well. Asking questions of old girlfriends and aquaintences. He arranges for temp jobs for Isobel so she can snoop for answers. Then Isobel finds she was correct and Jason was murdered. In fact, he was poisoned. Now Isobel must set out to prove neither of her friends Katrina or James are guilty of murder. Follow along as she sifts through the lies and false trails. Watch your back because someone is determined to stop Isobel permanently. All the while Isobel must go on casting calls and keep her temp job in good standing. This is the second installment of Isobel Spice Mystery, Although this can be read as a stand alone you can also get book 1 "The Temporary Detective Pandora's Bottle". This is a wonderful, quickly moving and humerous series from Joanne Sydney Lessner. You will enjoy it very much, but please be warned that unlike most cozy mystery this book is peppered with some strong language. If you are not bothered by this you will find this novel will capture your interest from the opening lines. I look forward to the release of the next book in this series. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
