Overview

Barely a Bride by Rebecca Hagan Lee

Can a lady tempt a Free Fellow to surrender his heart?

As a founding member of the Free Fellows League--a group of four gentlemen who signed a pledge to never wed when they were lads--Griffin, Viscount Abernathy, swears that he will put off marrying as long as possible. But when he is suddenly called off to war, he has no choice but to obey his father's wishes and find a wife...

Just days later, he marries the lovely Lady Alyssa. For a man committed only to his freedom, she seems a perfect--and perfectly undemanding--bride. Intelligent and self-sufficient, Alyssa craves her independence just as much as Griffin loves his. But as the irresistible attraction between them flourishes with every look and touch, they discover there is something they desire even more than a loveless marriage of convenience--the passion they find in each other's arms...

Book 1 of the "Free Fellows League" Series, which includes BARELY A BRIDE, MERELY THE GROOM, HARDLY A HUSBAND, TRULY A WIFE, A BACHELOR STILL and CLEARLY A COUPLE (a novella from TALK OF THE TON)

This is not a cliffhanger. This is one of those romances when there were real royalty who ruled for centuries. The story is based upon the oath sworn by three boys. They wrote a charter to not marry until they were 30, but if they had to marry younger, they would not marry for love. Enter Alyessa who did not want a life as society's wunderkind but a gardener and a good mistress. She did not want to be dependent and needy. She wanted to be able to better her world without the restrictions that hemmed her all her life. This was an excellent adult novel. I enjoyed the storyline, the romance, and the potential stories of the others in their circle of life. I recommend this novel.

Predictable but good book. There's a lot of page filler details that one might want to skim through. Frankly; I gave it 4 stars because it was free. I wouldn't buy a book by this author.

This is simply an historical romance which I know you will enjoy. I know I did. I found myself laughing at parts--these two were meany for each other but neither wanted a true marriage--they thought! They married--spent 3 days together before he went off to war. She realized that she actually did love him--but HE had made a pledge never to love a wife if he ever got married! When he returns from war and is feted as a hero--she is the only one who will make him whole again! He has seen too much and there is that danged pledge!

I liked the relationship and the growing affection but there didn't seem to be much reason for the story

Enjoyable read

I enjoyed the war aspect as much as the love story. Often most regency romances start with the wounded war hero already home. This gives the whole picture. Couldn't put it down!
