m/m Barracuda's Heart is the sixth in the Hot Rods series by Jayne Rylon.  The Hot Rods are a spinoff of the kinky Powertools series.  Jayne Rylons kinky men and women will have you cocking your head side to side saying can they really do that?  The author informs me that if it is in her books it can be done.   Barracuda's Heart is not the kinkiest entry into this series but it may be the one to bring you to tears.  I know I welled up.  At the end of Swinger Style (Hot Rods #5) we are left waiting to see if Roman survives his overdose.  Barracuda's Heart starts right where Swinger Style left off so you might want to read it first.  This is a case of friends to lovers to more with a lack of communication thrown in for good measure.  Like any Jayne Rylon book there is a great deal of hot lovin’ surrounded by a terrific story. Carver (Meep) and Roman(‘Cuda)s story is hot and sweet and will make you laugh, cry and sigh.  My only problem with this series continues to be the way she switches back and forth between nicknames and real names.  The cast of characters is large enough without doubling it.

The process of finding one's place in a family or society is not an easy one. In this book, Barracuda struggles with his sexual orientation and whether or not he can fit in the hot rod family. It was a good story. I will be rereading the series. Hot sexual situations and good story lines in all of them.

I am so happy Roman and Carver finally got their story! I love love love this series. There is not one character in this series that I don't love but for some reason these too pull at my heart strings. We don't get to read too much about them and their relationship up until this point so Barracuda's Heart is the icing on the cake for me. It's like dropping a kid in a candy store and yelling free!! Roman and Carver have really horrible pasts. But in each other they find what they need to cope from day to day. Romans need to control and dominate feeds Carvers inability to let go, to allow himself to be the center of attention. Only problem is, Roman's not coping so well anymore. He hits rock bottom and needs to learn to face his ghosts and deal with his issues without vices. But as he does so, he finds a few more skeletons in the family closet. Carver, of course, is there to support him in anything and everything but can he deal with not being needed as the emotional rock, as the fixer? These two learn to find their way together. To be there for each other, to be strong as individuals and as partners. To bring their relationship out into the open and decide what they want going forward. Can Roman stand sharing Carver with the other Hot Rods? Is that even something Carver wants anymore? How do they keep the connection they have with their friends without compromising on what they need and want from each other? You can tell, in all the Hot Rods books, that these characters love each other. Whether it be as friends, family, lovers, partners or spouses but with Roman and Carver there is a fully tangible passionate emotional connection that comes to life. The thing I enjoy about Ms. Rylons books is not only that she grabs you from word-one and keeps you hooked, but that she can execute scenes that many authors would end up making confusing, grotesque or just plain silly. It does take me a few pages to recall and get my characters straight with all the switching back and forth between nicknames and birth names but that in no way diminishes from the story for me. As with the other Hot Rod's books, a few new characters are introduced that will most likely be used to carry the series further and the author reintroduces you to all the main characters as well as those from the Powertools series (my other most favorite series ever!), however briefly it may be. Hopefully one day there will be a book with the full complement of characters from each series together...wink wink nudge nudge! Barracuda's Heart...great addition to the series, can't wait for more!

Hot, Wild Ride. While this is a love story it also deals with addiction and the struggles that come along with it. It shows that not every love story is a sunshine and roses. It is real and shows that people are not perfect, but they can still find love.

A good love story between the two main characters,   each having difficulties with personal problems,  however,  I felt the  group sex thing at the end was a little too much....   Was it necessary?   However,  this was the first of the Hot Rods series that I have read,  so maybe that was the idea behind the entire series...  J///////

Barracuda's Heart, Jayne Rylon Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Genre: GLBT, romance, contemporary Book six in the series, and although I hadn’t read earlier ones its clear that each book is complete, and about some of the same group of people that make up Hot Rods. I’ve had no problems with this in other series so I was really looking forward to this, but it just didn’t work for me for a couple of main reasons. That's just a taste issue and no reflection of book quality – what doesn’t work for me could be just what you want in a novel. I had issues with the endless swapping back and forth of names. Each character has a real name and a nickname, and there’s no consistent use of either, then throw in that Roman is Barracuda and is also called Cuda and ....you can see where it gets a bit confusing. I could get round that though, but my main issue was that I just didn’t feel the tenderness and emotion I look for in a M/M romance. I can get with three – even sometimes four – people involved in sexual encounters, and still feel the emotion and romance but this just falls into what seems to be a group orgy, and though I think its meant to show how much they all feel for each other I just couldn’t get with it. I was a bit like Barracuda, and couldn’t see the need. He got past it by putting restrictions that allowed Meep to still get what he seemed to need, but kept parts of him for Barracuda only. I accept this scene works for some people – lots in fact by the reviews but for me I need more one on one tenderness and more story. There seemed to be a greater emphasis on sex here rather than story – there was one but its very thin IMO. If you want hot, steamy sex with multiple partners and aren’t so bothered about solid story this could be what you’re looking for. Unfortunately I need more story. Stars: Two – sadly this wasn’t one for me, but clearly its loved by others. That's the way it goes. ARC supplied by Netgalley and publishers.
