Fate brought them together. Lies keep them apart. Love could set them free. All they need is to trust in Bear Hearts.
Fate has dealt bear shifter Martin Kruger and rotten hand. His destined mate, Dr. Elizabeth Montrose, is the enemy and suffers from a fatal illness. He's waited over two hundred years for a mate he might never have the chance to claim.
Elizabeth has long ago given up dreams of love, marriage and children. Her life is her research and now that is gone in a puff of smoke, thanks to the bears of Honey Corners. A tiny spark of hope blooms in her heart when the handsome bear tells her they are mates, but will that instinctual bond be enough to overcome all that stands between them?
Excerpt - edited to PG13
His bear was primal, feral, animal. It knew only one thing. They had met their mate. The bear had no qualms or reservations. It didn't care if she was good or evil. It wanted only to mate, protect and love. Too bad the man couldn't feel the same way.
How could he feel desire for such a woman? He should want to strangle her with his bare hands not throw her down and mate her until she screamed his name. He was verrückt, crazy with mating frenzy, that's all it could be.
He downed the rest of the beer and set the bottle on the table. Anger burned in his gut like hot coals. Lust poured gasoline on the coals and lit the fire. Then grief drizzled down over it all, turning the fire to smoke and ashes.
This was getting him nowhere. He could analyze it until he was blue in the face, but it wouldn't change the facts. Why did he keep rehashing it? He needed to take a shower and at least try to get a little sleep. He had to face his Sippe in the morning.
Maybe Bern could help him find an answer. His friend and mentor had always helped him in the past, always stood by his side. Maybe there was a way? Who was he kidding? Himself, obviously.
Martin's shoulders sagged, so weary now he wondered if he could drag himself up the stairs to his bedroom. What was the point in going on? He had nothing left to live for. His dream of a mate and cubs was lost.
Two hundred years of waiting and searching for that perfect soul mate and she turns out to be the enemy. Unsuitable. Unfit. Evil.
A single tear slid from his eye and he viciously wiped it away. Many bears never found their mates and lived out their lives simply enjoying the companionship of willing females. He had a duty to the Sippe. He could do the same.
"More shifter secrets that the lowly human can't know. I get it." Liz looked down at her lap. The tiny seed of hope turning to dust and blowing away in the wind. She looked up at Martin and felt such loss. He was a beautiful man. Tall and broad, with dark brown hair closely cropped to his head and deep chocolate eyes she could get lost in for hours. He obviously had great sense of loyalty and honor, traits she appreciated, and she'd seen humor and warmth flash in his eyes, though briefly.
As passionately as he defended his clan, or what was it he called it? Sippe? The fire that flared in his eyes when he was angry, Liz could just imagine that intensity turned into a different kind of passion. Turned into sexual passion, lust, maybe even love. To be the recipient of that would be amazing, but it would never be. Whether his goddess had deemed they were mates or not. Martin would never trust her and they would never be together.

About the Author
Nothing is better than creating a brand new world from a blank piece of paper. Breathing life into characters and watching their stories unfold-I am truly blessed.
I live in on eight acres in middle Tennessee with my husband, my dad, one of my three children, two dogs and three cats. I am privileged to have two precious grandsons.
When I'm not on my computer or reading my kindle, you'll usually find me in the kitchen. I love to cook! If I'm not there, I'm on the fields, watching my grandsons' soccer or baseball games.
It's never too late to chase your dreams. I'm proof you can catch them, even if arthritis slows you down. Who knows, your own Fairy Godmother may be just a dream away.

If you love complex characters, this is a wonderful series to start following. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Reviewed for Read Your Writes Book Reviews by Kim The ending of Hers to Bear, the first book in the series, sets up the story for Bear Hearts. And while this is the case, the books are standalone reads. I went into reading Bear Hearts really trying to figure out how Elizabeth Montrose and Martin Kruger were ever going to be couple, with the huge obstacle in their path. If I’m being honest, after reading Hers to Bear, I wasn’t a fan of Elizabeth. Bear Hearts starts out with Elizabeth’s backstory. We learn about her and what makes her tick. After her backstory, we are immediately put into the events that take place in Hers to Bear. It’s during this time, when I realized that my first impression of Elizabeth was WAY off and that she’s nothing like I thought she was. In fact, I was surprised by her strength and sassiness. I found Bear Hearts to be more about Elizabeth and Martin’s journey towards their HEA than anything else. You get an extremely small suspense element to their story that happens to wrap up the events which transpired in Hers to Bear. But this was truly a story more about the characters finding love, being happy and discovering that they each can and will have the things they never thought they would get. When these two aren’t butting heads, they have this wonderful playful nature about them. Which, I guess explains why they’re mates. Tamara Hoffa is definitely one of the authors who’s on my auto read list. I love the characters she creates and the stories she tells. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. **Received a copy from Blog Tour Promoter, in exchange for an honest unbaised opinion.**
I enjoyed the first book in this series, Hers to Bear. Bears are my favorite type of shifter, so I am always on the look out for another good book centered around the cuddly, yet often grumpy, bears. This book doesn't quite pick up where the first one left off. In fact, it backs up, giving us the events leading up to the big climax at the end of book one from Lizzy's perspective. This is really important, because just taking it from the bear's side of things, I wasn't inclined to be very friendly towards Lizzy. But reading her backstory and her perspective, changed my mind. As with many paranormal romances involving shifters and the "mate" scent and instinct, there is some insta-lust and insta-love going on in this series. Add in that this is a novella, there isn't a lot of hemming and hawwing going on when it comes to their romance. I was surprised that the story arc from the first book seemed to wrap up at the end of this one. I guess I was expecting it to be drug out over several books. However, that doesn't mean the story line is done, just that we aren't going to be hung up on this particular bad guy. So overall, there was more world-building, met more great characters and I got my bear shifter fix met. I was wavering between 3 and 4 stars, and decided on 4 because I respect the fact that the author is donating 10% of the proceeds of this book to cancer research in her mother's name. Thank you to Goddess Fish and the author for the opportunity to read and review the book.
Bear Hearts (Animal in Me Book 2) by Tamara Hoffa Elizabeth is a scientist and she is ill. She is looking for a cure for human diseases and where better to look then to the newly revealed shifters. Rumors are flying of them healing faster, living longer and never getting sick....at all. She feels all she needs to do is ask for their help and surly they will be willing. Yeah, not so much. So, the powers that be decide to go another route and Elizabeth doesn't like it. Martin is second in the clan. Like most shifters, he would love to find his destined mate, but it isn't likely that he will. He is content with his life and his role in the clan. Then children start disappearing and there is no trace left behind of who is doing it. They make a mistake though, they took the mate of the clan's leader, Jenna. During the rescue of Jenna and all the shifter children, Martin makes a discovery that he is and isn't happy about. He has found his mate. And she is the enemy. *ARC given by author for an honest review*
