Beguiling the Earl by Suzanna Medeiros

Her whole world has changed...

Until her sister's marriage less than one year before, Catherine Evans never expected to have a London season. Now that her prospects have changed, she hopes to capture the heart of the man who can never be merely a friend.

He is bound by duty...

The Earl of Kerrick has tried to see his best friend's sister-in-law as a younger sister. But just when he realizes his feelings for her go much deeper, duty forces him to court another.

They both want what they cannot have...

It is supposed to be a brief courtship in name only. As Kerrick works to free himself so he can finally pursue the woman he craves, outside forces conspire to ensure he marries the wrong woman.

This is book 2 in the Landing a Lord series. Catherine Evan has been in love with the Earl of Kerrick since they met. Unfortunately, she has had to wait to have her coming out to pursue him. As the season starts, Catherine eagerly awaits having her first dance with Kerrick. She soon learns that Kerrick's mother has plans for Kerrick to marry the daughter of her best friend, but that doesn't stop them from forming an attachment as he has no plans to marry the other woman. Unbeknown to most of the ton, Kerrick works for the government and has one last assignment. He must pretend to court a young woman, the very one his mother wants him to marry, to get close to her father to see if he is a traitor. Can Kerrick save the relationship he has just started with Catherine while trying to do his job or will she be swept up by someone else? I've been eagerly awaiting Kerrick's story since I read Loving the Marquess. Medeiros did not disappoint. She had me laughing throughout the story with the witty conversation and antics of the characters which is what brings me back to reading more from an author. Medeiros does a great job of getting you invested in her secondary characters. They have as much depth of character as the H/H of the story, which leaves the reader hoping to see them again! I was happy to read at the end of the novel that Rose (the other woman) and Brantford (Kerrick's boss) would be getting their story next. I can't wait to read it!! Thanks goes out to Suzanna Medeiros via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

Review Courtesy of April Hollingworth Part of the Landing a Lord series, it can be read as a standalone. I found this book enchanting and enjoyable. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and the ones before it too. Beguiling the Earl is delicious and wonderful. Secrets that can tear a country apart are being sold to the enemy, and it’s up to Kerrick to find a traitor, but when his heart lies with another, how much is he willing to give up for the country he has sworn to protect? Opening Scene: 1807 Catherine Evans shouldn’t have been bored. The Review: Catherine Evans is having her first season, but she already knows who she wishes to marry. The Earl of Kerrick is the only man for her, and she’s hoping that he will come to feel the same way about her.  Kerrick is desperately trying to see his best friend’s sister-in-law as a younger sister, but soon realizes that what he feels for her is in no way at all brotherly. But duty compels him to court another woman. Granted it’s only supposed to be a brief courtship in name only, then he’ll be able to follow his heart. But outside forces seem determined to keep him away from Catherine and married to a woman he doesn’t love. Notable Scene: Kerrick,” she exclaimed. She managed a quick smile of dismissal in Thornton’s direction before hurrying across the last few feet that separated her from the man she’d been waiting to see again. She stopped just short, her breath far too uneven to have been caused by the light exercise of the dance. She almost reached for his hands but resisted the impulse. She’d learned enough during her time in London to know such a display of affection would cause raised eyebrows and not a small amount of gossip. “Miss Evans. It is so nice to see you again.” He smiled down at her, his blue eyes crinkling at the corners, and joy unfurled within her. He was just as handsome as she remembered. “You devil, you promised to dance with me during my season. And here we are, a full three weeks in, and you haven’t attended even one of the balls.” He affected an expression of exaggerated dismay. “You wound me of such negligence. Unfortunately, I had pressing matters to attend to which kept me from town.” She pretended to give his words careful consideration before replying. “I’ll forgive you. But just this once.” His eyes shone with amusement. “Wretch.” FTC Advisory: Suzanna Medeiros through Net Galley provided me with a copy of Beguiling the Earl by Suzanna Medeiros. Published through Suzanna Medeiros. Kindle Edition. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Shorter than average book. Feels like it was cut short so the author can make a #3. Would have been more satisfied if author included an epilogue. Decent read. Enjoyed.

This was a good book. It was hard to put down. There were lots of feelings in this story but written so you didn't want to be a watering pot. It was curious to find out who went where with the twists and turns. Kerrick had the roughest time with his boss all but blackmailing him and 2 women out to get him. Catherine wanted him and he had to court Rose who wants someone else. It was so crazy it worked. Suzanna has a good book here and I hope you like it as much as I do. Enjoy! I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.
