Overview

So what is Performance art? The author-artist Marty St James mixes experiences and personal memories with definitions and historical contexts, shining a light on what Performance art is really all about. You get to know what is going on in the artists head as he battles his way forwards, the absurdities, the failures and the successes of a living Performance artist.
By way of actual examples of artist's works, ideas and insights he takes us on a journey through the magical and the extreme. It introduces the reader to the specific and wider aspects of what is involved and ways in which the art form has wider implications of living life through the creative experience. It touches on some of the more bizarre and crazy aspects of Performance art via surprisingly hilarious stories. Like St James living as a Radish for two years and his appearance on the 1970's reality TV quiz show, Mr and Mrs. And the art schools do not escape criticism, being unable to cope with the lived experience of Performance art. Written for anyone who wants the inside experiential knowledge on what Performance art really is.
