After college, Frank enlisted in the Naval Aviation Officer Candidate School and graduated number one in his class winning his wings of Gold in 1973. Eventually he was assigned to squadron VF-24 to go on the USS Hancock to cruise to Viet Nam in 1975. Durninng this time he was selected to attend the Naval Fighter Weapons School at NAS Miramar.
