America's sweetheart, impassioned lifelong animal welfare advocate, and New York Times bestselling author Betty White shares intimate, funny, and enlightening stories about her very best friends in the world…

All her life, Betty White has had a menagerie of pets, many of them rescued, and has donated countless hours and resources to animal welfare. Animals are her passion, and that passion extends to zoos and their importance for the conservation of species and for offering humans the ability to witness the grandeur and variety of these magnificent animals from around the world.

Betty & Friends is a love letter to those zoos, to their dedicated workers, and especially to the animals in them—from Gita the elephant, whom Betty used to take for walks; to Bruno the orangutan, who flaunts his affections for Betty; to Jacob the boa, who loves a good hug. Gaining access to this majestic world through Betty’s eyes and her inimitable words is a beautiful thing indeed for animal lovers and Betty White lovers of all ages.

This is really a nice photo collection. There are all sorts of photos of the animals that Betty White has come in contact with at zoos across the country. Several have the story of how Betty came in contact with the animal or what the animal means to her, or some have an experience she's shared with the animal. Just a nice, quick read.

Being an animal lover myself, I thoroughly enjoyed this book of fantastic photographs of animals Betty White has met and got to know in various zoos. She gives some interesting facts about the animals, shares her special one-on-one encounters she's had with many and manages to include some humor as well. The only thing I object to was that she gives "Mother Nature" credit for the animals instead of God, the creator. This book is centered around the photographs that are true works of art. Tad Motoyama, the L.A. Zoo's official photographer, gave her some of his photos that she chose to share with the world through this book. My favorite experience she shared was that she developed a bond with a baby gorilla named Lulu, and when it was older, it blew her kisses. Years later when visiting another zoo, she saw a gorilla do the same thing and mentioned that Lulu used to do that with her too. It turned out that was the same gorilla! I highly recommend this as a must read for all animal lovers--a great animal book and a fast read with no boring parts! I loved it!

Love the book. There isn't a lot of text but the pictures are so great that they speak for themselves. This book is a keeper.

I give this book five stars. If any of you are animal lovers, this book is for you. The photos that accompany Betty's text are fantastic. Betty is in her element talking about the animals she loves. The book is fast paced, funny, and sometimes poignant. Enjoy reading it on a leisurely afternoon or evening.

A light, quick read - I would probably almost call this a children's book except that it's longer (in terms of pages) than most children's books. I had no idea Betty White was so into animals and zoos. I think it's great that someone of her level is involved in this type of work, which you don't see that often.Looking through the pictures was fun, but most of the text was fluffy. I did love how she infused a bit of humor in places. It made me grin. It's very text-light overall. Shouldn't take more than an hour, if that, to get through. I saw Betty White on The Daily Show a couple weeks ago, talking about this book and being funny, as she is wont to do. Saw the book at the library a bit later and thought I'd check it out.My favorite quote: Perhaps a simpler approach would be to ask which animals I don't find fascinating, and I could honestly say, "None." The only ones I find disappointing on occasion are the two-legged type, but they are still interesting, nonetheless.

I'm glad I read another review that remarked on how little actual substance this books has, or I would have been very disappointed. As it is, I'm glad I borrowed it from the library rather than purchasing it. It is an adorable book, with sweet, if brief, stories and beautiful photographs, but there just isn't much to it. It is like a little book of snapshots of some of the animals Betty White has known and loved, mostly in her work with the LA Zoo. I admire Ms. White's dedication to animals and her passionate defense of zoos, and enjoyed this book. I read it in about 20 minutes, however, and do not think it is worth the retail price of nearly $27. I'd like to see an in-depth tale of Betty White's life and work with animals but this one is not it.

If you are an animal lover or a Betty White fan or both, you will enjoy this book! The pictures are FABULOUS! I really enjoyed the back story about how she came to know each animal and how the animals came to love her. She is an amazing person and has dedicated her entire life to the humane treatment of animals as well as helping to rebuild the populations of animals that are nearly extinct! I have always been somebody who is distrusting of caged animals, however, after reading this book and hearing Betty's stories, I have opened my mind a bit to see that there are some zoo locations that truly do treat the animals humanely and love them as if they are their children! Also after reading this book, I wish I could access the same spaces and achieve the same loving connections with these exotic animals! It is a very quick read, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you Betty for sharing your wonderful stories of love with us!!

This is a 90 page book with some of the pages containing only pictures. This is Betty White telling why she enjoys zoo's and, why they are important when they are well run. She's had a deep love of animals all of her life and she will give you animals that have been saved from extinction because of zoo's. There is no denying that she has a deep love for these animals and all animals. As an animal lover from childhood myself, I learned a lot. It was a light, enjoyable read.

Please don't waste your hard earned money on is basically a glorified picture book. I made the mistake of purchasing it online as a gift for someone who loves Betty White. Had I had seen it in the store first, I would never have selected it. The recipient said she read through it in about 30 minutes and I ended up feeling duped.
