Overview

Between a Heart and a Rock Place: A Memoir by Pat Benatar

For more than thirty years, Pat Benatar has been one of the most iconic women in rock music, with songs like "Heartbreaker," "Hit Me with Your Best Shot," and "Love Is a Battlefield" becoming anthems for generations of fans. Now, in this intimate and uncompromising memoir, one of the bestselling female rock artists of all time shares the story of her extraordinary career, telling the truth about her life, her struggles, and how she won things—her way.

From her early days in the New York club scene of the 1970s to headlining sold-out arena tours, Benatar offers a fascinating account of a life spent behind the microphone and speaks candidly about the realities of breaking into the boys' club of rock and roll. Written with the attitude and defiance that embody Pat Benatar's music, Between a Heart and a Rock Place is a rock-and-roll story unlike any other, a remarkable tale of playing by your own rules even if that means breaking a few of theirs.

This is a well written book - a quick read that kept me interested. Pat Benatar does a nice job relating the tough road of a young woman in the early hard rocker days without coming across as whiney or vindictive. The positive portrayal of a rock star with no sex scandals, drugs, alcohol or rehab trips is refreshing and sends the message that you can succeed in the business without all that.

I LOVED THIS BOOK FROM THE STANDPOINT THAT I AM ONE OF THE BENATAR GENERATION AND I WAS ALWAYS INTRIGUED BY HER SONGS. WHAT A REALLY DOWN TO EARTH WOMAN SHE COMES OFF AS IN THE BOOK. FAR DIFFERENT THAN WHAT I WOULD HAVE IMMAGINED. GOOD FOR YOU PAT FOR HOLDING ON TO YOUR BELIEFS AND THEN SHARING THEM WITH YOUR FANS IN THIS INSPIRING BOOK. A VERY GOOD READ.

Fun read and inspiring. How she has kept well grounded and balanced is awesome. I never miss her concert when she comes to Denver. Worked her butt off to get where she is. It also tells how the talents of her husband complements their success. When you attend one her concerts you can tell the love and respect they have for each other. Great book.

I loved that Pat Benatar came out with her own book, I loved reading about her life as a rocker and how she met Neil Giraldo. For such a small woman she has a big heart and voice!! I wondered where she had gone. thanks for the great read!!

I've been a fan of Pat Benatar's music almost my whole life. It was so much fun to learn the back story of what was happening in her life at the time those wonderful songs were being created and released for us to enjoy. Thank God she pushed on in a man's rock and roll world, otherwise the music business would have looked very different today. She sets a wonderful example of someone who worked hard and lived her life the right way, ignoring the temptations of fame and fortune. Great book!

Having been a Pat Benatar fan from way back, I only knew snippets of her story from the occasional interview or TV retrospective. How amazing to read the story of her life and her career, in her own words! The respect I had always had for her talent has spread over to respect for her as a strong, intuitive, innovative and loving woman. Working with the goal of creating a legacy for her children and their children, she makes no apologies for her priorities while still managing to re-invent ways to entertain her fans - decade after decade. Queen of Rock & Roll, long may she reign!!

I was always a closet Pat Benatar fan. What this book confirmed for me was what I already knew. Pat and her husband Neil are fantastic gifted musicians. What I didnt know is what wonderful people they are. There was never any scandal. Great book. Thanks Pat!

In process of reading this book.. Love it!! Pat Benatars music growing up in my teens helped me though alot of broken hearts. I am a native Long Island gal and feel pride in saying my favorite female singer of all time lived not too far from me.. I have a 16 year old daughter who has a desire to be in the "buisness" and she has already a great appreciation for the women who blazed their mark in the industry in a time when Women and rock were unheard of and what female rockers like Pat did to make it possiable for the young women today to accomplish. I will have my daughter read this after I am done so that appreaciation will go even deeper than just superficial mombo jumbo. Pat Benatar rocks and always will
