About the Author

RITA-award winning author Kelly Bowen grew up in Manitoba, Canada. She attended the University of Manitoba and earned a Master of Science degree in veterinary physiology and endocrinology. But it was Kelly's infatuation with history and a weakness for a good love story that led her down the path of historical romance. When she is not writing, she seizes every opportunity to explore ruins and battlefields. Currently, Kelly lives in Winnipeg with her husband and two boys, all of whom are wonderfully patient with the writing process. Except, that is, when they need a goalie for street hockey.

Enjoyed romance aspect Heroine is highly skilled counting cards to win at gambling Hero casino owner hires her to play for the house Bad part of the story is outlandish murder mystery Ending tied up too quickly Characters from other story too involved Do not recommend Wish it was more about the romance

An exciting and fun read! I love rags to riches stories, especially when it involves a damsel in distress and a dashing rogue! Though, I have to say that this heroine took matters into her own hands and made moves to help secure her future. And the hero, offered his help…and something much more.  Dangerous…maybe. A rogue…for sure. Rich as sin…absolutely! Alexander Lavoie plays the sly and calculating hero, so that he may get what he wants from Angelique Archer. Her perilous situation can’t go on for much longer and so she’s grasping the deal that the sinful Lavoie is dangling in front of her. But when things start to get too steamy, Angelique isn’t sure whether to get caught in the passion that is Lavoie or find another, less passionate way out.  A truly entertaining story to read and I can’t wait to continue this series. I recommend to those readers who believe in a little luck and taking chances.

I LOVED Alexander and Angelique's story!!! Angelique is willing to do anything to save her family, including working in a gaming den. She didn't count on being attracted to the disreputable owner of the club. Alexander is much more than what is said about him by the gossips, but he doesn't let many people see that side of him. He doesn't understand why he is showing it to a lady of the ton?? Bowen is one of my absolutely favorite authors! This series has been one of the best I have read! I'm excited to see what she comes up with for the next book in the series!

There's a lot to love about this story. Ms. Bowen presents a beautiful and intelligent woman of society, and a man of power without a title. Their worlds are different, their lives are different, yet the attraction between them makes the playing field even. Angelique's unique talent with numbers is why she's at the gaming hell in the first place. She has younger brothers to care for because their older brother is too much of a good-for-absolutely-nothing Marquess. It's clear she isn't there out of necessity; options to raise funds are limited. No, if she had other options she would take them but she's desperate and playing a table puts coins coins quickly into her empty pockets. The problem is, the owner of the club she frequents notices her. It isn't just her beauty that captures his attention but the fact the she is there consistently and she commands every table she plays at. Alex has never met a woman like her, and her ability to play so well with seemingly little effort intrigues him. That interest ratchets up when she refuses his help when things take a turn for potential worse one night. Why wouldn't she want his help? As a reader, it's obvious: she doesn't want him to know who she is. But there, right there, is where Angelique's appeal ensnares Alex completely. He wants to know her, know about her. He wants more with her than he's ever wanted with a woman before. Her mystery pulls him in. His desire to learn her inside and out reinforces his determination to do so. The romance between Angelique and Alex felt both slow and fast. Getting to know one another was the slow part. The fall from attraction to lust was the fast part. For me, anyway. Yet, it didn't feel wrong. Perhaps because there were other things going on, situations and circumstances that kept the story moving, mostly involving Angelique's family. Trying to solve the mystery of where her family's fortune disappeared to plus figuring out who was behind her brother's sudden imprisonment were certainly other driving forces in this story. It was a heady mix of romance, mystery, and suspense, to be sure. Ms. Bowen somehow manages to keep this series interesting with each additional story added. The characters are gorgeous, and I don't mean just physically. Each one is strong yet weak, able yet not, confident yet uncertain. Each couple so far has found a compliment in the other, a person who makes up for their deficiencies without degrading them. Alex and Angelique are no different. The change was greater for Angelique as she learned to trust a man who had the means help her family but would move mountains, perform the impossible, to earn her love and protect and cherish the heart she gave him. The dynamic opening chapter sets the pace for this outstanding story. It starts out with an air of intrigue, quickly moves to self-preservation and then a challenge by a very sexy man. All elements that will keep a reader mesmerized with the story. This is a read that you get so wrapped up in that you lose track of time. The plot is well thought out and executed while the two main characters Angelique and Lavoie are developed in such a manner that the reader will cheer for both of them to win and come to an agreement that makes the reader shout for joy. Angelique is a women who is very advanced for the era she lived in. I decided immediately if I could be anyone I would want to be her because she was so smart with numbers and she has a strong moral fiber. On the other hand Lavoie was much more then he appeared and the perfect man to deal with and understand Angelique. I give this 5 STARS for how it deals with Angelique's personality and family problems. Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

book 3 in the a season for scandal series is utterly delightful, and given that i hadn't read books 1 or 2, it also stands very well on its own. alexander lavoie is intrigued by the woman who comes in to his club to gamble and who does so successfully while trying to attract the minimum amount of notice. between the devil and the duke, may relate to angelique archer's difficult circumstances. you could also say she's between a rock and a hard place. her father's fortune has gone missing, her idiot brother is drinking himself silly, and her only way of maintaining some form of food on the table is to chance the vingt et un tables. although chance may be a stretch, since angelique has a unique talent for maths and a memory that allows her to remember the cards. she's always tried to hide her abilities, but alex catches on quickly after an evening at the tables turns sour when one of the gentlemen she plays against becomes aggressive. once alex figures out her talent he is intent on using it to his advantage. he also wants to know what her circumstances are, because for some reason he is intrigued by angelique, he wants to help her, he wants to keep her close. the chemistry between alex and angelique is undeniable. they can't keep away from each other, even when angelique is suspicious of his motives and distrustful of his ability to help, she can't keep him away, and soon she can't stay away. the secrets of angelique's family are the key to figuring out her present circumstances, and once she realizes she can trust alex with everything, her secrets, her livelihood, her heart, everything gets swoonworthy. alex is an amazing lead. its funny because he refuses to admit his love for angelique even though every other character calls him on it, even when his actions speak so much louder than his words. and while that is occasionally frustrating, how perplexed he is about his feelings for angelique are entertaining. and i mean, it's just so obvious how head over heels he is. i really enjoyed this story. angelique is such a strong female lead, likable and independent, but not so independent that she gets annoying. she's not stupid. and she's definitely not single-mindedly stupid. which is a welcome thing. and alex, again is just a great foil for angelique. he truly appreciates her gifts, and that is just so damn sexy. **between the devil and the duke will publish on january 31, 2017. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/forever (grand central publishing) in exchange for my honest review.

I stupidly started Kelly Bowen’s Season for Scandal with the third book, Between the Devil and the Duke. I was hooked from the start and wished that I had read the other books in the series, as well. Not because you can’t follow this one without them, rather because this one was so much fun that I wanted to have started at the beginning. The characters are well-developed and there are clearly past couples that play critical roles in this story. Even without having read their original HEAs, I definitely enjoyed the glimpses of the previous couples. I’m going back to start at the beginning. I highly recommend you do also. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

London - 1820 Lady Angelique Archer is playing cards at an exclusive gambling place called Lavoie’s where the women wear masks to protect their identity. Angelique has played here before and tonight she has won a substantial amount. As she gather her winnings, the man who lost grows angry and grabs her arm threatening and mauling her. The owner, Alexander (Alex) Lavoie steps in and rescues her taking her into his office. There, he offers her a job working a vingt-et-un table for the house. Angelique has always had a good head for math and the ability to count cards. She is responsible for paying to keep her sibling twin brothers in school. She is also desperately trying to get her brother Gerald, the Marquess of Hutton, to sober up and take on his duties. When their father died, they were left nearly penniless as their fortune had somehow vanished. With all of these problems hanging over her, Angelique knows she needs to use her talents to make money so she accepts Alex’s offer. Alex is a long time partner of Chegarre and Associates whose primary purpose is to make scandals disappear. When Angelique’s brother, Gerald, ends up arrested and thrown into prison for murder, Alex steps in and along with the help of Chegarre, they seek to find out who the real murderer is and what happened to the fortune of the Archer family. This is a good book full of adventure that takes the reader from the elaborate accoutrements of the beautiful gambling hell of Lavoie’s to the nasty prison area of The Tower. I enjoyed the story and I hope that other readers will as well. Copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I love Alex Lavoie! I liked him in the first 2 books of this series, but when he falls for Angelique, he falls hard. Alex owns a gambling club and is a partner with his sisters in Chegarre & Associates, a firm that helps people in troublesome situations – for a price. Lady Angelique Archer and her brothers have fallen on hard times. She has an exceptional talent with numbers and decides the best way to make money is to play at Alex’s club. He realizes her talent and that she needs the money, so he hires her to deal at his club. She is attracted to him and him to her, but he doesn’t believe in love. Or so he says. When her brother is arrested for murder under strange circumstances, Alex and his associates start considering why she and her brothers inherited almost nothing. Who would have a reason to set him up? As he discovers more and tries to protect Angelique, the plot gets very good. And of course, eventually there is a HEA. I love this book – couldn’t put it down. I don’t like plot spoilers so I hope you’ll read this book. I believe you’ll enjoy it. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me an ARC.

Desperation makes her brazen. Curiosity forces him to be bold. Kelly Bowen is not the first author to write a story with heroine like Angelique. Angelique is smart, brash and creative but she's also broke. Her brains are the catalyst that leads responsible into tempting when she crosses paths with mysterious bad boy Alex. A walking contradiction, Alex is sexy, intriguing, wealthy with a wicked edge and a sensitive heart and smart mind. An offer she can't refuse and a risk he can't pass up lands them right in the center of drama, betrayal, danger and romance that could be the beginning of something beautiful or end in tragedy. Ms. Bowen has the panache to deliver stories that are exciting, that balance humor with danger and sensuality. I have yet to experience a heroine I didn't like and the heroes aren't bad either. Between the Devil and the Duke is a culmination of suspense, lust and what every good story needs escapism and Kelly Bowen delivered.
