Overview

Beyond The Limit is the true story of the first woman to receive a doctorate in mathematics. Despite the dictates of the Tsar's oppressive government, teenaged Sofya desires education above all else. Her rebellious pursuit takes her on a journey far beyond the challenges of academia in a man's world. She becomes entangled in a fictitious marriage, a tempestuous affair, and a brutal civil war before her victorious return home.

About the Author

Joan Spicci holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Loyola University of Chicago, and a master’s degree in secondary mathematics education from DePaul University. She studied Russian language and history with private instructors and at the University of New Mexico. She has edited several anthologies of science fiction and fantasy. She is the owner of JSS Literary Productions and manages the literary estate of her late husband, fantasy and science fiction author Fred Saberhagen. She lives in New Mexico.

All at once, this book is a fascinating historical novel, a captivating love story, and an inspiring story of someone triumphing against all odd ... This is a dramatic and suspenseful story, another one I couldn't stand to stop reading even to sleep. I don't think that you would have to be interested in mathematics to love this book.
