Beyond the Silence by Tracie Peterson, Kimberley Woodhouse

Powerhouse Team Pairs Up for Second Novel

Lillian Porter has always wanted to fulfill her mother's dream of going west, so when she hears about a nanny position in Angels Camp, California, she defies her grandfather and takes a chance on a new future. But she quickly wonders if she made the right choice. There are rumors in town that her new employer, Woodward Colton, caused the death of his wife. This accusation doesn't match the man Lillian comes to know—and Mrs. Goodman, Woody's long-time housekeeper, is decisively on Woody's side—but many in town stay far away from Lillian because of her association with the Colton family.

Lillian's six-year-old charge, Jimmy, was there when his mother died, and he hasn't spoken a word since. Gently, Lillian tries to coax him out of his shell, hoping he'll one day feel safe enough to tell her the truth about what happened. But the Colton olive farm is no longer a safe place. Lillian encounters suspicious characters on their land and mysterious damage done to the farm. Will Mrs. Goodman and Jimmy be able to speak what they know in time to save Lillian from tragedy?

The opportunity to read another book written by Tracie Peterson definitely sparked my interest. Together with Kimberley Woodhouse, Peterson wrote Beyond the Silence, a novel about a family living after tragedy. It is difficult to review Beyond the Silence without giving too much away and spoiling a good read! Peterson and Woodhouse incorporate thought-provoking story lines that reflect on a relationship with God in spite of tragedies that can seem to rip apart every part of life. Personally, I do not enjoy stories with violence and Beyond the Silence does contain some violent scenes, or violent flash backs. I also thought some of the conclusions in the end were a bit forced. Being familiar with the healthcare field and those who are critically ill, I thought it was unlikely, aside from a miracle, that persons would recover so quickly. However, perhaps the miraculous nature was the point. Ultimately, Beyond the Silence is an enjoyable read and, together with Woodhouse, Peterson does not fail to write smoothly to pull her readers into the story line. Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse have written a book will bring you to tears. A book that captures your heart and takes you on a very emotional roller coaster ride all the way through and doesn’t let it go until the very end of the book. I shouted, cried right along with these characters. There is so much love, anger, hate, love, understanding, determination and faith in this story. You never knew what to expect next. If you love suspense, romance and faith then you will surly love this mesmerizing story. Be sure to get your copy of Beyond the Silence today! 5 stars! Tracie Peterson has been one of my favorite authors for quite a while. Teaming up with Kimberley Woodhouse didn’t detract from the quality of the writing in the least. This story was not only well written but it had many elements included such as suspense, mystery, and romance. The characters were believable and varied. There were some deep issues involved in the story, such as prejudice and gossip. Overall I enjoyed the story even though it was a bit predictable. I would give it a four out of five stars. Bethany House publishers gave me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoy a good historical. And I love a good mystery. Beyond the Silence gives readers the best of both with a dose of added romance. Lillian wants to do something that matters, and when she accepts a job as a nanny, her grandfather disowns her. There's no coming back. When her train finally takes her all the way to California, she is confronted with information that her new employer may not be who he seems. All she knows for sure is that there is a little boy who desperately needs her and she feels called to help him. [Tweet "Beyond the Silence is perfect read for historical romantic mystery lovers. #amreading"] Woodward Colton has been accused of terrible things, but the judge cleared him. Too bad the people in his town won't do the same. He's broken from tragedy and wondering if he can ever clear his name. Lillian brings comfort and disruption to his home. Then strange things begin happening again and he wonders if he can protect those around him again.Beyond the Silence A strength in Beyond the Silence is the way the characters and setting jumped into my mind fully formed. The descriptions centered me in the locale and I was there with Lillian. Each character also had depth: they weren't mere cutouts put on the scene to fill space. Instead, they had pain and joy, they were sympathetic (except the villain) and real. There are subplots that added dimensions to the story as well. There also were the mysterious elements that kept the pages turning -- I wouldn't call the first half suspenseful, but the pace did build. All in all Beyond the Silence is a really enjoyable read, and I recommend it for those who love a historical set in the late 1800s and who appreciate a romance with a good mystery/suspense thread.

I have no idea what the title brings to your mind as you read it. I thought it might be something beyond the grave, but really was not expecting the level of suspense that the authors Tracie and Kimberley brought to this historical fiction novel. I truly disappeared into the story and was lost in it for the two days it took me to read it! Many times as I read with bated breath to find out what would happen next I had to remind myself this IS a novel, it is fiction, and I am not in the middle of it, and neither are my friends! That lasted only until the next scene! Even my 89 year old mother loved it, and read it in short order. I loved Lillian, and I think it was because she was so patient and understanding with her young charge, Jimmy. She also did not believe all the rumors that she heard, and gave the family the benefit of the doubt as she tried to help them. Thank you to Chris and Amy at Litfuse Publicity Group and Bethany House, a division of Revell Publishing Group for the opportunity to read this book. I received a free book for the purpose of reviewing it. A positive critique was not required. The opinions are my own.

BEYOND THE SILENCE By: Tracie Peterson & Kimberly Woodhouse I love the cover of this book very nicely done. I love the colors of this cover, the big tree, the grassy area it is just really nice. It tells me a store all its own. This story had me hooked from the first page which I like but it also kept my attention all through the book. It has twist and turns and mysteries having you look over your shoulder. The characters in this story was really life like and had you crying, laughing, you’ll look at how gossip can kill a person soul and turn people ugly and mean that usually are the nicest people in the world but it only takes a few to turn a town upside down. If you’re like me then you pick characters you like and watch their every move. I loved Lillian and the faith that drove her to stand her ground and listen to God’s directions., Then there’s Harry a young man that will surprise you and have you wanting to fight for him, a boy whom can’t talk and a man accused of murdering his wife did he do it or is there something the people aren’t seeing? The Olive Farm sounds great but there really wasn’t much on it but I was intrigued by the little they did tell of the farm and the work it took. I’d like to see another story written about the families and what they are up to now. This book is exciting and kept me on my toes. I recommend it highly. I received this book free from Bethany House for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review just an honest one. The opinions I have expressed are entirely my own and no one else’s. 5 Stars ISBN 978-0-7642-1410-3

This book was SO much better than the other book I read by Tracie Peterson. This book actually has a plot and doesn't really have romance until two-thirds into the book. It was really interesting (it was sort of a murder mystery). With that said, there were some problems. First--the transitions from the point of view of Lillian to the point of view of the murderer were poor. You had to just figure out that the point of view changed. *I hate this problem in books* Second--how does the child come to be comfortable with Lillian so quickly? Usually you have to get to know a person before you start liking them.
