Overview

Black by T.L Smith

I am loyal, but I will betray you.

I am strong, but I have scars.

I am an angel, but the devil.

I met her when I was sixteen, she was a breath of fresh air. She swooped in, making me smile. But then she left, taking my next breath with her.

Her smile could light up a room, making my black heart pitter patter.

I found her again ten years later, with a syringe in her arm.

Blood coming from her legs.

She was broken and I was glad she was broken. She wouldn't think less of me and my damaged ways.

Just 115 pages. A series. Out of this world drama. No real chemistry. A dumb*** leading man. So after seeing his puppy love drugged out and used by a biker gang. He cleans her up, emotionally abuse her, use her for only sex, & he's the "good" guy? She can't get her priorities together because she wants this Wes Craven Fixer Upper. Huh? This book was awful from go. Each chapter is his/her perspectives. He's dark, like black, no really. We should name him black because he's so moody. What?! Is he Batman? This book isn't good free. It's abuse wrapped up as a new Contemporary love story. Dracula, Christian Grey, & Ike Turner look easy next to this guy. Skip this book. Go read the dictionary. It's more entertaining.

Ok I get that the author is from Australia and even suggested that there would be phrases or words that might differ from American authors, fine, but the person who edited this book was sloppy and lazy. I liked the book / storyline but cringed every time I saw the errors. For that, the book only got 3 stars.

This is the first T.L. Smith I have read. Darra has read her books and told me I should start and I finally did. I can honestly say at first I was like "Really? This is not my type of book." I kept going and I am so glad that I did. I liked both characters. Black seems like a psychopath at first and I was thinking there is no way I can like him. After you keep going through the book you see a different side of him and you have to end up loving him. I wonder about myself a little bit for sympathizing with him and forgiving him for his job. When Rose came in the picture I was thinking there is no way I am going to ever like her. Again, I was wrong. She isn't exactly what she seems in the beginning and really I have to say I admire her tenacity. I really have so many more things that I want to say about this book but I am afraid of spoiling anything for you. I will say that I want more and I want to know more about Jake! This book has a very memorable ending. As in as soon as I was finished after 10PM, Darra got a text about it! There are only a handful of books that have us texting about it before we see each other the next day at work. It was that good, I couldn't wait to talk about it. I am giving this book 4.7 stars out of 5. The beginning is a little slow but it is so worth it to keep reading. Go get this book!!!

This book is so good. The story line is different. Absolutely original and at times can get confusing but eventually all your questions are answered. I love all the characters and can’t wait to read the next book.

I thought Black was a pretty good book though at times confusing. I loved Rose and Black together.

Black is sort of a second chance romance, mixed with suspense, and wrapped in a blanket of darkness. Black is actually a contract killer for hire. He wasn’t always a killer but a rough childhood conditioned him into what he is now. When at a local motorcycle club that he often does jobs for, Black comes across a one of the club’s prostitutes who’s completely doped up out of her mind. He immediately recognizes her as the girl he fell in love with back when he was a teenager. The girl who was there one moment and then disappeared without a trace. He has no idea how she got to where she is but he can’t just leave here there. So, he kidnaps her away from the club, gets her sober, and sends her on her way to get her life back in order. However, their past and future are intertwined by more than just a chance encounter and pretty soon Black and Rose have a whole motorcycle club banging on their doors looking for retribution. Every once in a while I like to switch it up and dive into something a little dark. I just can’t take bubbly characters or happily ever afters book after book. So, I was really excited when I saw this book was free. It sounded good and has a great cover. However, that’s kind of where it all ends. I had a hard time getting into the story at first because I wasn’t a fan of the writing. There was no feeling behind what I was reading. It was as if I was reading someones journal or something. It was very disjointed and there was a lot of telling and not showing. It all just seemed superficial to me. This story could have been better if there weren’t so many grammatical errors. There were missing words, sentences that didn’t make any sense, and times when names were used to address the wrong character. I can usually overlook these things when it’s an ARC because those haven’t been fully edited or released to the public yet. However, this book has been out for over a year and a half and it’s saturated in errors. I would be horribly upset if I paid $3 (current price for the ebook) and got what I just read. As a whole, this story is interesting and has so much potential, but it just fell so flat. I feel like I just read someones summary of the book instead of the actual story. Not to mention that it definitely needs a good scrub down from an editor before it should be listed for sale again. While the book ends on a cliffhanger, I have no desire or drive to read the next book. I don’t see the need for the cliffhanger and felt like the story would have been fine if it ended without that little tidbit.

Liam Black childhood was dark, abusive and considered the school worst trouble maker until he met Rose Miller Rose and Black was classmates but became friend and inseparable during his worst time. They had been two broken souls seeking a reprieve of their opposite worlds, therefore when Rose missed the usual visit it took his light away and darkness prevailed. He became cold-hearted, moody, dangerous and a hired killer. It took ten years later when Black sees her again, she is a drug addict living amongst an MC close to death. Rose was living for her next high while drowning her past demons. She never recognized Black but he couldn't leave without helping her to clean up her act. This story was well written with dark, gory, complex story of Black and Rose ordeal. The story jumped at times with plot points were lacking clear ending or not compatible with earlier actions. It was full of deception, intertwining mystery, drugs, MC twists and turns. It ends as a cliffhanger but questionable enough to pique the reader interest to the next book (Red). I would love to read Jake's story.

What a crazy mind spin. Rose and Black have a chance encounter on a dark night when they are teenagers. Rose uses this moment to build something with Black. Black’s childhood has been filled with highs and lows, Rose enters his life at a low point and gives him a new purpose but then she disappears. Black heads down the path of darkness and becomes the hitman even strong men fear. Then one day, there is Rose, strung out, bleeding, the one woman who saw light in him. Does he walk away and leave her to her fate? Will his break his rules and rescue her? Rose was charmed by a man who turns out to be evil to the core and becomes her nightmare. When the man in black takes her, can she find the strength to rebuild her life? This is a world filled with various shades of gray as men exert their power through death and destruction. I was surprised by the depth of this romantic drama. T.L. Smith is a master at layering drama and suspense with amazing twists and turns which kept me turning the page.

Black is a killer, it is his job to not feel emotions. The only person to ever make him feel anything is Rose, the girl he met as a teenager. Years later he finds her again, in the most unlikely place and now it’s his turn to make her feel again. It took me a while to get into this book but by the end I was hooked and anxious to read the next one in the series. Neither character is likeable at the beginning but we begin to see there is so much more to both of them. There are so many twists and turns and secrets revealed, you will never see them coming. Can’t wait for the next book!

Black is dark and filled with angst, heartache, love and pain. It's fast paced and full of twists. As soon as I thought I knew where the story was headed, I'm thrown in a different direction. Liam Black is mysterious to say the least. He didn't have the best life growing up but he made the best of it, doing what he knew how to do best. He has a tough exterior but the way he cares for the people he loves shows that he has a good heart. I really felt bad for Rose. She was dealt a really bad hand and it just spiraled down to the unthinkable. At the end of the day though she shows her resilience as she fights for those she loves. TL Smith seriously gut me with this one! She really knows how to tear your heart out then walk away like nothing happened. She really keeps you guessing and I couldn't believe how this book ended. This might be my absolute favorite book that's she's written so far. This book left me completely stunned. Black is unlike anything I've read in the past year.

OMG! Do you love a book that will have you so sucked in that you can't put it down? If so then this is the book for you. T.L. Smith has done a wonderful job writing Rose and Black's story. I fell in love with these two beautifully broken characters. T.L. wrote this book in both Rose and Black's POV and I love that because I love to know what they are thinking and what made them the way they are. Rose and Black met when they were 16. Rose brought light into Black's world at a time that it was nothing but darkness but then one day she disappears and his world becomes nothing but darkness. "She was the light and she took it with her that day, stole it and never gave it back." Ten years later Black comes across Rose who is now a druggie and he takes her and gets her clean. He wants to know how the girl he knew ended up this way because he just can't imagine that Rose would become an addict. "I started the drugs to numb the pain, numb it all out of my existence. A person can only break so much before they're truly broken."-Rose He shows her a side that no one sees but he fights her and any relationship that she may want to have with him. She on the other hand can't believe that someone would help her without wanting something in exchange. "I haven't been shown kindness in such a long time and it's taken me by surprise."-Rose Rose ends up having her old feelings for him that never went away come back but he won't hear anything of it. He thinks that he is no good for anyone and that he will bring nothing but black into anyone's life that comes too close, not to mention he doesn't let feelings enter into his life anymore. "She makes me feel things, makes my heart pitter patter when I though there wasn't a heart there that could do that." "Maybe I will one day turn black, everything I touch does." "How the f@ck did i get to this place in my life? How did I become one of the darkest people I know?" What happens when Rose tries to get her life back? Will she be able to handle all the emotional turmoil or will she go back to her old ways? Will she convince Black that a relationship between the two of them would work? Will Black let Rose bring light back into his world? What happens when Black's secrets come to light? Will Rose be able to handle the truth? This book has it all, the emotional highs and low, the twists and turns and OMG the cliffhanger!!! Well done T.L., well done. I seriously cannot wait for the next book. This is a must read that you don't want to miss out on.

This was so much more than I expected. Liam Black meets Rose when they are 16. There's a connection between them. They are from opposite sides of the tracks, but this is so far away from your typical romance. While it screams insta-love, one day Rose vanishes never to return again. Fast forward 10 years when he finds her - high out of her mind and bleeding. Her fall from grace is obvious, but the circumstances will surprise you. He grew up to be the bad seed everyone expected - only more so. However, nothing else matters when it comes to Rose. He picks up her frail body and takes her home. Once she's clean she demands to leave and he obliges but isn't able to keep from watching over her from afar. This story's a little dark with a lot of surprises. Bad men do bad things - even when they're in love with good people. This truly is an emotional journey for both parties. Be prepared for some tragedy along the way. This is a hard fought romance that will not end the way you expect it. I hear that there's more coming, and that's a good thing because I really want more story and a different ending. That being said, I highly recommend this book - especially if you're looking for something with substance that will wreck you along the way. I won a ARC and this is my honest review.

I finished this story in 1 day and really wish my friend would have warned me how hooked I would become to the story and how much the ugly tears would start pouring out of my eyes. As much as I wanted to put it down so the tears would stop I couldn't *hangs head* I just couldn't do it at all; I had to finish it even if it was going to kill me. I know what your thinking that I'm losing my mind right well I don't think I am at all. I was completely blown away with this authors writing and her attention the all the fine details that made up this story. Hooked from page one, it's a really page turner even getting to the end I crave more and more, over and over I hated the fact that it ended. On almost every page some type of twist in the story was coming out of the woodwork and really making the story that much more of a page turner. The amazing and wonderful journey the author has taken me on with her characters was like no other. The twist and turns really made the ending that much more real, hell just from the ending alone I want more and crave just as much!! No amount of words can really describe the way I think about this story, It's a 5star read over and over again. ***I received this story for free in exchange for an honest review, see more of my review @ http://jmhoward2007.blogspot.com/2016/03/review-black-by-tl-smith.html ***

This book... Wow just wow... Even after sitting around for a few hours I am no closer to knowing what to say about this book but we shall give it a try. That ending holy mother of all things holy I need more. I cannot wait for the rest I'm seriously addicted to Black & Rose. T.L. Smith has put together yet another amazing story that had me from page one and would not let me go. I swear every book by her is better than the last. Both rose and black are broken in one way or another. But when u find out all the truths your jaw will drop to the floor I know mine did. Nothing I say will give this book justice but what I can say is YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!!!!!! 1 like ·
