Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl is the third installment of the Defenders of Justice series about US Marshalls in St. Louis, Missouri. US Marshall Casey Sloane and her partner Doug Howard have a federal witness,Valerie Bennet, in custody. They are taking her to Washington D.C. in order for her to testify against a corrupt member of the government. FBI agent E.J. Queen, a former partner of Casey’s, is going to accompany them. An incident at the headquarters in St. Louis forces them to change plans. They are on the run from a seriously bad guy and his minions. Who do they trust and how will they get their witness safely to the feds? This was one wild ride. Nancy gives us a glimpse of what a US Marshall might have to deal with in a scary scenario. They need to outwit the evil mastermind who is pulling the strings. But how does he know their every move? E.J. and Casey, who are both Christians, convey the theme that God is to be trusted and relied upon even when circumstances seem unsurmountable. E.J. And Casey have a history, so a touch if romance is included, too. If you want non-stop adventure, latch on to this book and don’t forget to pick up the whole series. It is so suspenseful, I can hardly wait for Nancy’s next book! *I recieved this book from the author in a giveaway contest. I was under no obligation to post a review. All opinions are my own.* Paula Shreckhise

When a standard journey to protect a witness turns south, U.S. Deputy Marshals Casey, Doug, and E.J. are blindsided by one complication after another. Subterfuge, dishonesty, disguises, office infiltration, misinformation, and greed all play a part in this contemporary novel. I gasped more than once while reading Blind Betrayal, as various people showed that they were not really who they first appeared to be. Nancy Mehl writes realistic, well-rounded characters in her Christian fiction. I was glad to see some people from Fatal Frost and Dark Deception show up in major roles or in cameo appearances, moving on in their careers, just as real people do. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Blind Betrayal, and recommend it highly. I bought this third book in the series because I enjoyed the first two very much.

Nutshell: Marshal Casey Sloane has a new assignment. Escort a reporter from St. Louis to Washington D.C. to testify in a grand jury and a very high profile case. As Casey takes each job seriously, there does not seem to be any problems with this one and it should be an open and closed case within a couple days. Then all pandemonium breaks loose as Sloane is ready to head out with her witness. The Mashal's office is bombed and they think it is related to the witness Casey is transporting. With her partner and a D.C. Marshal, who she knew very well, they go on the run with their witness to get her to D.C. Through dangerous travels, twists and turns, will they be able to get their witness to her destination alive? What I thought: This is book 3 in the Defenders of Justice series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but some characters from previous books are in this one as well. Knowing their back stories from other books could help, but overall, you would be able to read this book without reading the other two. Meh did a spectacular job with this fast paced, action packed story that keeps the reader flipping pages until they reach the end. So many levels and layers to the story to give the reader a bit more to chew on verses a typical mystery. Even up to the last pages, you are still surprised by what happens as you think it's over...but it's not. Would I recommend it: Definitely! If you enjoy fast paced mystery and suspense, this book is for you. Highly addictive and hard to put down! Bethany House Publishers sent me this complimentary copy to review for them. Opinions expressed are my own.

BLIND BETRAYAL is the third book in Ms. Mehl's Defender of Justice series, but it stands alone. Fans will probably want to read Fatal Frost and Dark Deception just to keep up with characters who may carry over to other books. I did remember some of the names. I read the entire book in a day, it was kind of spellbinding with high suspense, even though you knew who the bad guy was and why but you didn't know what, when or how.... This writing is not up to Ms. Mehl's usual standards. It is more telling than showing and I couldn't relate to the characters at all. I didn't care for any of them. However, the suspense, as I said above, was high. The Marshalls were running blind, not sure where to go, where to turn, who to trust, and even those they thought they could trust betrayed them, and those who appeared to be one thing was quite another. If you like high suspense, you will likely enjoy BLIND BETRAYAL. I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

Wow! This book has everything: Suspense, intrigue, romance, strong friendships, faith. And it’s all wrapped together in a plot that never, ever stops from the very first page to the last. Every character fits perfectly with the storyline. With this book, Nancy Mehl has continued her tradition of excellent novels. Always a pleasure to read one of her books. A five star rating from me on this one, I received a copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

lind Betrayal is the intriguing third installment in Nancy Mehl's Defenders of Justice series. The story is filled with plenty of suspense to keep you engaged from beginning to end. Sorting out the "good guys" from the "bad buys" is a full-time job, as it is almost impossible to decide who to trust. And there is just enough romance in the story to satisfy those of us who enjoy that element as well. Thanks to Nancy and her publisher (Bethany House) for providing a copy of this book. I am happy to share my own thoughts in this review.

This has so many twists and turns and you don’t know what might happen next. This is another book in the Defended of Justice series an$ as always I don’t want to put this book down. I love the characters and hope there will be another in the series. I was on the edge of my seat through most of the story. I received a copy of this book from Bethany House for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Every time I read a book from this author I am always amazed at how she can weave a story that captures your full attention. The action is non stop and the characters are exceptional. I loved how the author made it hard to determine who was the good guys and who wasn't. Just when I thought a character was trust worthy they fool me. There is definitely something strange going on when the FBI makes me question their integrity. It becomes clear that not everyone is on the same page. Casey is a fierce character who is determined to protect a witness that has been slated to testify. Her partner E.J. is well trained and has a keen sense of reading people. The action starts when a bomb explodes in the marshals office. The goal is to get the witness to a safe place, but obstacles get in the way. I was starting to mistrust the witness Valerie when she seems to help the bad guys find her. It's a race against the clock in this explosive and powerful cat and mouse game. Can Casey and E.J. keep Valerie alive to testify? Who is really behind all the danger that puts Casey and E.J. in danger? I love the complexity of the story and how the author puts the pieces together in an intense way that keeps you guessing till the end. The ending is masterfully written with surprises that lead to a closure that will make you cheer. I received a copy of this book from the author and Bethany House Publishers. The review is my own opinion.

It took me a few chapters to be pulled into this story, but once I was...it didn't let go. The suspense and danger kept me on the edge of my seat. I also enjoyed the tension between Casey and E.J. All in all, I loved reading it. *I received this book from the publisher/author for the purpose of review. The above is my honest and unbiased opinion.*

“Blind Betrayal” is not your typical, run of the mill, syrupy sweet Christian fiction book. The third installment in the Defenders of Justice series by Nancy Mehl is a nonstop, action packed thrill ride! It is well-researched, very realistic and an excellent story. Having never read a book by this author, I was unsure about beginning with a book other than the first in the series, but it in no way hindered the story or my enjoyment. Casey Sloane’s latest assignment is escorting a witness from St. Louis to Washington to testify in front of a grand jury. However, before she and her partner can even leave town, the Marshal’s Office is attacked. Are the two events connected? Is there a mole in the Marshal’s Office? Casey, her partner, and another Marshal (a handsome man from Casey’s past) go on the run to hopefully deliver the witness unharmed. I highly recommend this book and have found a new Christian fiction thriller series and author! I would start the first if you can, just because this one was awesome and you will want to read the others when you finish. Thank you for the opportunity to read this great book!

This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it! Casey and Doug are US Marshall's out of St. Louis and they have a high profile witness that they need to get to Washington D.C. They are hoping that her testimony will put away a very dangerous man that has ties to terrorism. Unfortunately, he also has tentacles every where and is about to make these Marshall's lives very difficult. Since they are going to D.C., they send an agent from that office to help transport him. Casey knows E.J. from her days of working there and there are feelings between them but there are also hard feelings between them. This creates another dilemma for the agents. This journey ends up being very dangerous and the situations keep you glued to the pages and up late at night to see what will happen next. I really like the characters in this book and felt very invested in their lives. I love a book that makes the people in them feel real. The character of Casey especially was so real with lots of emotions you would expect in the situations they find themselves in. If you enjoy a mystery/thriller that keeps you entranced, you will love Blind Betrayal. It is well written and high enjoyable. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. *This book was provided to me for my honest review by Bethany House

So intense! What a gripping story! I never knew what would happen next as the US Marshals try to get their witness safely to Washington DC. From the beginning I was hooked and literally did not put this book down until it was finished! I loved how the characters struggled with not knowing what to do next but always knowing they had to do their job, even if it came with a high cost. And with bombs, kidnappings, car accidents and a lunatic terrorist on the loose, it was a very safe read! But I loved it and recommend it. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. I am freely writing a review - all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Blind Betrayal (Defenders of Justice Book #3) by [Mehl, Nancy]Blind Betrayal is the third book in the Defenders of Justice Series by Nancy Mehl. Casey Sloan has been in the St. Louis U.S. Marshals Office for a couple of years. Now she is assigned the duty of escorting a reporter to Washington. He is to testify about an environmentalist who vanished. In addition to this, Casey discovers that the Marshal's Office has been under attack and now placed on high alert. Now Casey, the reporter and two other marshals are running while tryingt o keep the reporter safe. This is the first of the series I have read and it surprised me how quickly I became engrossed in the writing. There is plenty of suspense to keep you reading and the characters were easy to catch up with. Each character has a distinct personality and background which helped make me invested in them. I will need to pick up the first book in the series so that I can find out what has happened up to now. Excellent book. I was given this book by Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest review. This book may be found at Amazon HERE! Christian Book Distributors HERE or Barnes and Noble HERE

Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl is the third book in her Defenders of Justice series. Wow, what a story! I’m not sure that there are enough adjectives to describe it. From the explosive first page all the way to the spell-binding end you are kept on the edge of your seat, waiting for what will happen next. U.S Marshal Casey Sloane has to escort a reporter to Washington to testify. What seems like an easy assignment turns into a life or death struggle. Not only for Casey but also for the reporter. Trying to stay one step ahead is their only hope of survival. I really enjoyed this story. It was one of those books that you have to stay up way too late so you can finish. I would highly recommend it to any one who loves a lot of action in their stories. I received this book from Bethany House Publisher’s in exchange for my honest review.

Wow! Talk about suspense and intrigue. This story has more than I could imagine. The goal of the evil mastermind is to never leave any witnesses. The reader starts to wonder if anyone is going to make it out alive, even the reader. At every turn, there seems to be another bad guy waiting to take out the good guys. You will need to read to almost the last page to learn who is being betrayed because it probably is not who you think in the first part of the book. An undercurrent of faith seems to flow through the story as events unfold, but it is more subtle as someone may send up a quick thank you or help me to God. The romance is equally understated. For those who love action and nail-biting suspense, you will find it here.

“As Martin Avery waited to be murdered, he was surprised to find that, more than anything else, he felt offended.” What an amazing, “draw-you-in-immediately” first sentence! You know it’s going to be a great suspense book when the first sentence is so intriguing you can’t help but be blown away. Valerie Bennett is a newspaper reporter who has been questioning the famous environmentalist Martin Avery. Suddenly, Bennett happens upon a dangerous secret. Now her life is in danger. Casey Sloane and Doug Howard, St. Louis US Marshalls assigned to protect Valerie, quickly have a bigger job on their hands than they expect. When their home office is bombed, they are uncertain about the security of their plans. EJ Queen from another office joins the team, bringing unpleasant memories from the past to the surface for both himself and Casey. What a suspenseful ride! Mehl does a great job of making the terror so real that the reader can easily believe he/she is living (hopefully) through it along with the protagonists. I loved the way that Mehl brings to question whether duty should come before family in a disaster. I liked her conclusion, although I suspect some might differ. This is a great thrill ride that lovers of Christian romantic suspense will not want to miss. It is also great as a stand-alone, so no disappointing “As Martin Avery waited to be murdered, he was surprised to find that, more than anything else, he felt offended.” What an amazing, “draw-you-in-immediately” first sentence! 3.5 stars (between like and really like) "You listen to God's bells. . .When they go off, you stop what you're doing until you know everything's okay." (70) As the third book of the Defenders of Justice series, Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl goes into protection and danger lurking. The first line of the novel definitely hooked me in. "As Martin Avery waited to be murdered, he was surprised to find that, more than anythign else, he felt offended." (7) I wanted to know what was going on and each step of the way. The author built the suspense little by little, adding a bit of action midway with [spoiler alert] abduction and fire power. It jumps a lot, but it was easy to follow even with all the characters. It was nice to read about the camaraderie and the inter-agency teamwork. In all, I find it an easy and quick read. There wasn't a lot of high-action suspense, but there definitely were action. The slow built romance added to the overall authentic scenario and premise. Tie in the message of prayer and faith, Blind Betrayal is a great addition to a good investigative series. Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.

I love a good mystery. Stories of intrigue fascinate me and stimulate my brain. I find I can often think more clearly after reading a good fiction mystery because I've already been working so hard to find the connections to solve the crime. Blind Betrayal may keep me thinking for weeks! U.S. Marshals, subpoenaed witnesses, and terrorist plots. They all come together to create a tangled web of deceit and intrigue. U.S. Marshals Casey Quinn and Doug Howard are escorting their witness to D.C. so that she can testify before a hearing. But before they can even get on the road chaos ensues as a bomb goes off. Quinn and Howard meet up with a third U.S. Marshal, and together the three Marshals take the witness off the grid and to safety. What follows is a story filled with car crashes, cases of mistaken threats, and a criminal so hopped up on drugs he can no longer carry out the crimes he was tasked with committing. While Mehl provides a fairly complete picture of what is going on as the story unfolds, I still did not expect the ending as it was written. Since I jumped into the Defenders of Justice storyline with the third book, I found Blind Betrayal to be a full complete story on its own. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be looking for the rest of the series! I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This review is my own, honest opinion.

I have been loving this series. Nancy knows how to write a book that will grab you and keep a hold of you. Although I might not have gotten pulled into this one as soon the others in this series I still did get pulled in, it just took a bit more time. I liked Casey. She was a tough woman, with pain from her past and of course E.J. is tied too. How could these two get it together when it comes to romance? What was great about this book was you never were sure who the good guys or bad guys were. Who could you trust? If you enjoy romantic suspense I am sure you will love reading this book. A copy of this book was given to my by the publisher. All opinions are my own.
