The year is 1971 and Amanda Blackstone is an aspiring investigative reporter stuck with her first job as a "society columnist". She's good at a lot of things - but needs a chance to prove it. While reluctantly covering a debutante reception for the daughter of the town's wealthiest man, she overhears him deliver a veiled threat to his company's CFO.
