About the Author

M.J. Woods lives in Central New York with her family and her beautiful but not-so-bright Bernese Mountain Dog. For over twenty five years, her 9 to 5 days were spent working in the legal field of a small town. She often draws from these experiences and re-imagines them to get her characters into trouble while they find love.

M.J. writes motivated by coffee and music, also drawing inspiration from the Central New York landscape. Her debut novel "Balance" was released in November, 2016 and earned a Silver Medal for "Romantic Suspense" in the 2018 Readers' Favorite Book Awards.

She is a member of the Central New York Romance Writers and the Romance Writers of America.

Reviewed by Deborah Lloyd for Readers' Favorite Pam Clayton is looking forward to her fourth year at OCAD University in Toronto, Canada. She hopes to complete her degree in New York City – close enough to visit her parents frequently, while leaving her small Canadian hometown. Since the death of her brother, Ben, she has a different perspective on her life. Daryl Oates, only 30 years old, is Vice President of Soft-Cell, a cell technology company in Palo Alto, California. He is also working on a music app. A past college roommate, Aidan Pierce, invites Daryl to a family get-together in the Thousand Islands on the St. Lawrence river. Aidan brings his new girlfriend, Alexis – who has a special connection to Pam. The chemistry between the two self-described nerds, Pam and Daryl, is strong, beginning with a happenstance first meeting. Fate continues for these two in the romantic novel, Flux: Pam & Oates Part One, written by M. J. Woods. This story is a modern-day romance, including text messages, emails, and current slang. There is a large cast of characters, mostly friends in their twenties, but it also includes parents, co-workers and a somewhat flaky college advisor. The geographic settings also add flavors of today’s world – the high-tech world of northern California, aspects of Canadian life and opportunities in large, East Coast cities. The story flows smoothly as the chapters alternate between the voices of Pam and Daryl. Author M. J. Woods has crafted a well-written, new romantic series in Flux: Pam & Oates Part One. It will be interesting to see what happens to Pam and Daryl next!

So Flux... Flux was simply amazing and in my little pea brain could not have imagined a better story for Oates and Pam! I fell for Daryl and his friend Nate in the Amped Series, both friends with Aidan from their college days. It's where Pam and Oates meet but we only get a brief glimpse at them. This gem is their story, in it we also meet his roommates "the twins." And that's all I'm going to say about them... for now. Oates is a serious geek, a prince charming of a geek who works, also throwing himself into an app development that he's talked to Aidan about; when he is invited by Aidan to come up to his family vacation home to talk about the app among other things. He's been summoned so that's serious business, meanwhile Daryl also talked to Nate whose work is rather mysterious, but can take some time off from his job in Florida; they plan his visit as a surprise for Aidan. Aidan has a surprise too, that being Alexis. Alexis visits her late husbands parents who live nearby and she invites Pam to the house also, giving them some girl time and Pam to meet Aidan. Pam is her late hubs younger sister who is in college in Canada and between managing her own geekiness and finding a placement for her next semester she pretty much could use the break. She knows the house, when she and her brother would paddle up river to the bluffs and admire the gorgeous home, it's boathouse and view. A definite oasis. With her best friend leaving for a job in Florida with a stop in NY, Pam is really hoping for that placement in NYC she wants. The story unfolds as Daryl and Pam meet each other and totally connect in those awkward but not really when you're a geek, first moments. She's the princess to his prince and the match to his gasoline. They spend a lot of time together, getting to know each other, both very careful with the other. Stories shared, parts of their lives spoken only to each other. What a great view as a spectator to watch this slowly sizzle unfold. MJ writes so well you feel like a peeper eavesdropping on the couple. She drops a couple of carefully placed curves, and a solid backstory in place. Her writing is stellar, the perfect description of the island and house that made me feel like I was there. The plot is insanely good and she leaves us with a sort of HFN but wait!! There's a second book that will soon be out to answer any of those nagging little questions. As an aside, I am hot for Nate and can't wait for his book! It isn't necessary to read the Amped series to fully enjoy this book, but I highly recommend it. Who doesn't love hot, romantic suspense? Flux is a must read! Put it on your TBR and enjoy the ride! graciously gifted a copy by the author
