There are some things money can't buy. Then again, there are some things it can. Like a three-week, all-inclusive vacation at a gorgeous, mountain-top mansion overlooking the majestic Atlantic Ocean.
In Rio-freaking-De Janeiro!
Holy God, two years ago when my friends and I agreed to have a little fun and put our names in a hat, I never thought the girl who drew my name would send me to a breathtaking ocean-side estate for my twenty-fifth birthday. I'm just a small-time daycare teacher in New Jersey. For me, Brazil isn't just a long-ass way from home — the villa where she sent me is completely over the top luxury and definitely out of my league.
That doesn't mean that for the next three weeks I'm not going to take full advantage of it, though. I have been working my ass off in the daycare trenches, striving to climb the corporate ladder to a managerial position so I can put my hard-earned business degree to use. And then to top it off, my ex-fiancé, also known as Dr. Douchebaggery, left me for his head nurse, one who was willing and eager to give him the children he wanted.
I used to want kids, until I started working in the daycare classroom. It didn't take long for me to realize that today's kids are spoiled, self-centered little monsters who have all of zero respect for authority and like to be cruel to their peers. I decided I didn't want to bring a child into a world like that, which ended up being an obvious deal breaker between my ex and me.
After getting overlooked for the supervisory position at the last managerial meeting, and getting dumped with no warning, I'm ready for this vacation more than anyone can imagine, and I damn well plan to make every moment count.
I shift my suitcase in my hand and step along the foliage-lined pathway leading to the ornate front door with its shiny brass lion knocker. The briny scent of the ocean wafts around me, and I breathe it in. I'm as giddy as a preschooler on Christmas morning as I tap on the knocker.
Bring it on.
From the other side of the thick mahogany, heavy footsteps pound down the hall, and I inch back a little to once again absorb the specular estate before me. I honestly have no idea what to expect behind these colossal doors, but I'm beyond excited to find out. I scan the place again, a million questions running through my mind. Is this someone's home? Do they rent it out privately? Or is it some sort of bed and breakfast that caters to numerous guests at one time?
I don't know, and I don't care. My only goal is to have some much-needed fun and experience everything Rio — and its people —have to offer.
The heavy door opens, and I suck in a quick breath when I come face-to-face — or rather, face to chest — with a Brazilian god dressed in khaki shorts and a snug shirt.
Well, happy early twenty-fifth birthday to me.
Lush lips made for kissing curve upward when our eyes meet, and the sexy little dimple tugging at his right cheek curls my toes, among other body parts.
I'm going to hug and kiss whichever friend drew my name and set this up.
"Piper Young?" He dips his head, and a thick lock of dark hair falls to his eyes. He shoves it back, his arm muscles thickening and relaxing with the movement.
Aware that I'm staring at the hottest guy I've ever met — a guy that makes me think of rockin' vacation sex — I try not to gawk at his yumminess as I nod eagerly. "Yes, that's me."
"We've been expecting you."
And you're better than anything I've ever expected.
I think it's best to leave that unsaid, so I smile and say, "Nice to meet you."
As he waves his hand to guide me in, I take in the sexy, light scruff on his face and sneak another glance at his hard body. Please, oh please, let this hottie be part of my dossier.
We've been expecting you.
Dammit, the "we" part of that sentence must mean he's married. And why wouldn't he be? He's every girl's tall, dark, and handsome fantasy come to life. When we made the pact ages ago, we all agreed not to come back from our epic journey until we had back-bending sex. Even though I'd be more than happy to let this guy twist me like a balloon artist, if he's hitched, it's time for me to nix my dirty thoughts.
"I'm Lucas Santos," he says, then grins sheepishly. "But of course, you already know that."
Um, nope. Didn't already know that.
"Piper," I say and extend my arm. "But of course, you already know that." He smiles at my teasing and takes my hand in his. His big, warm fingers close around mine, swallowing my entire hand and wrist. Heat floods me, and I take a moment to consider how those strong hands of his would feel on my body, caressing my nipples, which are currently stirring to life and hell- bent on saying hello.
Uh, what did you just say about nixing your dirty thoughts?
Move on, Piper. Move on ...
He lets my hand go, and I take a moment to pull myself together as he waves toward the rooms off the grand entranceway. "How about a quick tour?"
I stare down the wide hallway. "Either that or you'll have to give me a compass. I could get lost in here for days."
He laughs — a rich, decadent sound — and my traitorous nipples harden just a little more.
Damn you, hormones.
"The floor plan is pretty straightforward. Right down the hall, at the back of the house, you'll find the kitchen. Help yourself to anything." The place is massive, with a curving staircase leading to the upstairs. As I look around the house, I see the ocean through the bay windows. Gorgeous. "My home office is this way. It's where I spend most of my days." He points to the left, and as I walk with him, he showcases all the big rooms. "Right off the living room is my bedroom. You'll be upstairs, and for the next few weeks, I want you to treat our home as your home."
Did that invitation extend to the bedroom as well?
Shit, get it together Piper. The man might be married.
"If there is anything at all you need, all you have to do is ask."
Oh, if he only knew.
Seriously, though, what's really going on here? I want to straight up ask, but he seems so happy to see me, so sure I know why I'm here, that I close my mouth and wait for some sort of clue as to why sexy Lucas Santo is telling me that, for the next three weeks, his home is my home.
From my peripheral vision, I catch a movement, a quick flash of pink, and Lucas follows my gaze. "Is that you, kiddo?" A little girl, no more than four, lingers at the doorway, eyeing me suspiciously. "Why don't you come on over here and meet Piper?"
The girl's lashes flash rapidly, and the uncertainty, the small flickers of fear in the depths of her big almond eyes, give me a funny little lump in my throat.
"She's nervous around strangers," he tells me quietly.
I might not want kids anymore, but I do know how to talk to them and ease their worries. Not just because of my job, but because of my own experiences with strangers.
"Hey there," I say and go down on one knee, my heart squeezing when I think back to the day those strangers entered my home and took me away. I, too, was around four years old at the time and frightened half to death, not knowing where I was going or what would happen to me. A few months before, my mother had just upped and left us, and when my father started drinking heavily, the neighbors called social services. "I'm Piper. What's your name?"
When she continues to stare at me, plucking at the ratty teddy bear she's strangling in the crook of her elbow, Lucas shifts restlessly.
"I thought you knew," he whispers.
I stand back up and lift my chin to focus on Lucas. When I do, I notice that he's stepped closer, crowding me. I catch a whiff of his scent: sun, sand, one hundred percent hot man designed for sex. A fine quiver moves through me — a normal female reaction to his closeness — but I shouldn't be thinking about a married man that way, or any way at all. That sort of makes me a sick human being.
"Her name?" I ask. Why on earth would I know her name?
"No, I mean. Didn't Alyssa explain ...?"
As his voice falls off, an uneasy knot tightens my gut. "Alyssa?" I ask, fishing for information. I'm not sure what he knows, or what he thinks I know, so I hold my response and wait for the pieces of the puzzle to fall in to place.
He frowns. "Alyssa, your friend. My distant cousin."
Ah, so Alyssa is my secret sponsor.
"No, she didn't tell me your little girl's name," I hedge, understanding we're not talking about the child anymore, but something else entirely ... something that's going to reduce our friend group by one — because if I'm right about why she sent me here, I'm going to murder Alyssa, slowly and painfully.
Looking anxious, Lucas casts a worried look at his daughter, his body suddenly tense. "But she did tell you Maddie stopped speaking after her mother died last year, right?" he asks, his voice so low I have to strain to hear him.
My heart pinches as I take in the deep sadness in his eyes, his genuine concern for his little girl. "Ah, yeah, of course." I should excuse myself. Go to the bathroom and call Alyssa to find out the exact details before I do or say something to make matters worse for this family.
He relaxes slightly, the hard ridges of his face softening as he slides his hands into his pockets, pulling his khakis lower on his hips. Jeez, just when I thought he couldn't look any hotter, he goes and proves me wrong.
"Okay, good. We're on the same page then."
Same page, different book, maybe.
"Let's get you settled into one of the guest room then I'll give you the rest of the tour. Maddie's regular nanny Eugenie left instructions."
And there is. The bombshell I've been waiting for him to drop.
I'm here to babysit Maddie.
Good-bye epic sex.
What did one get for strangling a friend these days?
"Do you just have the one suitcase?" he asks.
Walk away, Piper, before this vacation becomes a complete train wreck.
I nod, and he says, "It might take Maddie time to warm to someone new. She's gone through so much trauma. It's not easy for a little girl to open herself up after losing her mother."
Oh, hell. How can I walk away now?
Maybe I'll poison that cockle soup Alyssa's always raving about.
He dips his head, and that rebellious lock of hair once again falls over his face. "With your experience in a daycare, I'm sure taking care of one little girl for three weeks, as opposed to thirty or more in a classroom, will be a breeze."
I stand still, feeling like I did that day in junior high when, on the way to soccer practice, Alyssa had accidentally slammed my fingers in the back door of her mother's SUV — nauseous and dizzy.
Lucas steps around me and puts his hand on the heavy front door. He gives it a little shove, and I spin around and glance outside before he cuts off the view. What the hell had my friend been thinking? This vacation was supposed to be about me getting away from kids, not babysitting some millionaire's little girl. Am I being punked? I search for signs of Ashton Kutcher, but as Lucas closes the door, the walls begin to close in on me.
I breathe past the panic. How can this be happening? The whole point behind the New Year's Eve pact was to draw a name and secretly put together a sexy dossier for an epic adventure where sensual dreams come true.
I drew Harper's name that fateful night, and I have spent months saving and putting together a once in a lifetime trip to England for her — with a little catch. One that will knock off her socks — as well as her panties — not lock her in a mansion taking care of a little girl who looks at me like I'm the monster under her bed. Truthfully, I might babysit kids for a paycheck, on my way to a managerial position, but in the two minutes I've been here, one thing has become perfectly clear. Maddie needs a mother figure, and that is something I'm not, and never tried to be, to the kids I care for. I'd be doing this family an injustice.
Lucas's brow pulls together, and he angles his head, his eyes searching my face, no doubt registering the shock. "Piper, are you —?" A small squeak sounds from behind us, and we both shift to see Maddie dashing into the other room.
"It's like this," I begin, ready to tell Lucas there's been a mistake. But when he turns back to me, and I see the lost, frightened way he'd been looking at his daughter, my heart turns to Jell-O.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
Don't go soft now, Piper. You are not the girl for the job.
Then who is?
Lucas looks back at me and smiles, but it doesn't reach those dark, haunted eyes that hold so much worry. "I'm sorry, what was it you were saying?"
Walk away, Piper. You're not equipped to help this family.
I take a deep breath, let it out slowly, and run the words around my head so they come out right before I vocalize them. But when I open my mouth, I find myself saying, "I — I'm sure Maddie and I will do just fine."
With the household still asleep and the sun rising over the ocean, I shift back and forth in my office chair. The wheels squeal under my weight, and I wince, not wanting to wake anyone just yet, as I go over the events of last night.
I glance out the open window and listen to the surf on the shore below but can't seem to shake the feeling that Piper had no idea she was here to babysit Maddie. But that can't be right. A couple of months ago, when Alyssa called to tell me she was moving to Antigua, we discussed Maddie and her need for a caregiver while Eugenie, her regular nanny, took a much-needed vacation with her husband.
With a degree in child psychology and numerous years of experience under her belt, Eugenie, an old family friend of my in-laws, came out of retirement as a favor to me to care for Maddie. I can only hope that with enough time she'll be able to bring my little girl out of her shell and back to me.
Piper, however ... Well, she's no Nanny Eugenie. In more ways than one.
Stop fantasizing about the new nanny, already.
I tap my fingers on my keyboard, unable to concentrate on the open program in front of me. Not when sexy Piper Young is snuggled in one of the guest rooms upstairs, ready to take on an assignment I'm pretty sure I'd just sprung on her.
Why did she agree? Why didn't she just come right out and explain the mix-up?
Maybe there isn't a mix-up. Maybe I'm just thrown off by the hot new nanny. It's been a long time since my dick jumped like it was hooked up to a bunch of electrodes.
I toy with my phone then punch in the number for Alyssa, needing to get to the bottom of matters. A few minutes later, her sleepy voice answers. Shit, I didn't stop to think she's an hour behind me and might still be in bed.
"Hey, Alyssa. It's Lucas. I didn't mean to wake you."
"Is Maddie okay?" she asks, her voice rising.
"Yes, she's fine," I reassure her quickly, and her breath of relief comes over the phone. "It's just that Piper ... she showed up yesterday."
"And?" she asks, a new lilt to her voice.
"She's a lovely girl."
"A lovely girl?" When she gives a very unladylike snort, I wonder what happened to my sweet cousin, who always used to walk the straight and narrow. Now she's practicing medicine in Antiqua and living with two men. I don't have a problem with that. I just wonder what it was that made her stand up to her family and live the life she wanted to live.
"Lucas, you sound like you're a hundred-year-old man with one foot in the grave."
"I'm twenty-nine and very much alive, thank you." But I thought "lovely girl" was safer than telling my cousin her best friend is as hot as fucking hell. I haven't thought about sex in a very long time, and I definitely shouldn't start with Piper. Lusting over the nanny is wrong.
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
"You're far from alive, Lucas." Her voice is soft this time, sympathetic. "Jenny's been gone a while. I just want to see you happy again."
My stomach clenches as I rake my hands through my hair, not wanting to rehash this conversation with my cousin. Yes, she cares, I get it. But I don't deserve happiness, or happily ever after. Not after the tragic way Jenny died — thanks to me.
I might not have been directly responsible for the accident, but she was in that car because of me. If only I hadn't gone into the office that day.
As guilt eats at me, I redirect the conversation. "I get the feeling Piper didn't know she was here to babysit." I wait for a response, and when none comes, my gut tightens. "Alyssa. What have you done?"

This was a fabulous novella. Perfect for a quick, spicy read. The chemistry between Lucas and Piper was off the charts. They were beautifully drawn to each other. Little Maddie will melt your heart! This story encompasses sexy heat along with a beautiful story of following your heart's desire. I loved the instant connection between Piper and Lucas as well as the way Piper fell for Maddie too. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.
This story is smoking HOT! It is the fifth book in the Dossier series written by Cathryn Fox. Piper is spending three weeks in Rio De Janeiro for her twenty-fifth birthday courtesy of her friend Alyssa, but when she gets there she is surprised that it involves a young single father who needs a nanny for his daughter. This isn't what she signed up for! Lucas needs a nanny for his daughter and believes that is what he is getting when his cousin Alyssa says that she has the perfect person for the job, but Piper doesn't seem to know anything about it and his attraction to her is combustible. I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.
Holy tingling shirttails, Batman! Brazilian Fantasy is the definition of scorching hot and sexy. Piper is finally due her very own secret dossier birthday extravaganza. And she is all ready to get her socks rocked off when she arrives at the impressive house in Rio. When hunky Lucas opens the door, she believes all her fantasies are actually coming true… that is until she meets Maddie, Lucas’ 4-year-old and the little girl she’s supposed to be nannying for the next three weeks. Lucas is ready to kill his cousin when he realizes the friend she sent him to cover for the nanny has no clue why she is here… and he has a feeling his cousin was hoping the sweet and sexy non-nanny would take care of more than just little Maddy. With extremely combustible chemistry, Lucas and Piper can’t hold off for too long and are soon entangled in an incredibly hot affair. She’ll only be there for three weeks, so they might as well make the best use of the time they have. Right? They just have to remember to keep their hearts out of the equation… Easy-peasy. Lucas is one sexy geek. Of course, the only geeky part is his occupation. He has the muscles, the looks and the alphaness to make Piper’s panties melt, and he most definitely knew how to handle himself. The way he was with his little girl was what made him completely drool-worthy. Piper was sweet, caring and sassy. I loved how playful she could be and how against her better judgment she decided to stay and help Maddie overcome her trauma. I loved everything about this story. Their chemistry was absurdly hot, their sextivities off-the-charts scorching, their banter funny. How little Maddie opened up to Piper was super sweet and I enjoyed watching them become a family. I felt the ending was a bit rushed. Everything worked out way too fast, and by worked out I mean the three of them magically overcame their deep-set issues. Other than this little hiccup, Brazilian Fantasy was a totally satisfying quick read you’ll want to read at home… unless you carry spare underwear wherever you go. Fun, hot and sexy, this is one quickie you won’t want to miss. *I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.*
Off the hook fantastic! This is my absolute favorite of the Dossier series, Cathryn really hits it out of the park with this one right from page one. Piper arrives in Rio a dream come true for her for a much needed break from things at home. Job loss, dumped by her man, anything that could go wrong did. She so needed this break. Giving her time to sort out what she wants to do rather than working at the preschool she's been working at, while holding a college degree. When she arrives in Rio, walking up to the beautiful home in front of her was like a dream, and the man who answered the door, even better. Meet Lucas, eye candy for the weary. A little confused when he spoke in plural, "we" "us" Piper wondered if this incredible man in front of her was married. While still standing in the entry she see a blur of pink out of the corner of her eye and when she turns she sees a small child. Her wheels are clicking and while tall, dark and incredible is talking she's realizing that she's there to babysit, all the while at the same time Dad is realizing the same thing. A call to Alyssa, his cousin who is now living on a tropical island with two men as a result of her "epic" weekend, Alyssa half explains the whole Dossier plan and the epic weekend and knowing he needs someone. Lucas has shut down since the death of his wife several years ago. His daughter hasn't spoken a word since the loss of her mother. He's hired a nanny and said nanny is on vacation so the assumption is that Piper is going to babysit. When he clarifies the understanding with Piper, Piper does what she does best, relates to children, even though she's made clear that she doesn't want any. Piper has a past too. Which you read about in the story. Lucas blames himself for his wife's death. The first thing Piper does is toss the nanny's schedule out. 4 year olds don't need that. They have girl time and Maddie warms to Piper really quickly. Piper, knowing what she's doing, talks Lucas into going shopping, which he hates but goes along and they hit the mall. Right into the pet store. Piper knows that the human dog connection is a strong one and this little girl needs that. Meanwhile things heat up with Lucas and Piper. And things just flow. The plot was perfect, I have to admit the first couple pages I was peeved about Piper having to be a nanny but the story... took care of itself. The characters were over the top great. I loved Lucas and Piper together and of course Maddie. The steam factor was over the top. Cathryn's writing flames, forget the smoke! This book was a page turner, it wasn't at all predictable and I absolutely loved it. Mark it as a TBR and buy the book! As I said, my favorite of the whole series. Epic? Absolutely. It was beyond epic. Showers of stars! **advanced reader copy given in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts and opinions are my own**
Sex on a stick! I was right there with our leading lady when you first set eyes on Lucas. Tall, Dark, sexy accent, all that muscle giving off heat, no wonder Piper kept saying things that were the opposite of what her brain was telling her to say! Single ladies in her pact get a surprise vacation to indulge in amazing sex during their 25th birthday month. Piper is a little shocked when her's does not go as she thought, but there is no denying the appeal of Lucas Short and sexy, with a tonne of sparks between the leads, and a boatload of sexy times, and the sky full of adventure, and enough sweetness to give you visions of puppies and kids, I completely enjoyed this read!
The appeal of the Dossier series is "GIRL POWER". Amidst the naughty allure is a strong bond of friendship. Through the storm, these women laugh, cry and encourage other. Even if that means pushing each other to step outside of their comfort zones. Brazilian Fantasy is Piper's story. For Piper Rio De Janeiro is the beginning of escapade. She finds a couple of surprising developments at the end of her destination. (1.) The greatest temptation is one you never saw coming. (2.) Giving away your heart is the biggest risk of them all. Cathryn Fox doesn't hold back with Piper and Lucas. Her aim is tried and true.
4.5 Stars! Are you looking for a well-written novella that is full of sexual desire and an engaging plot? Then pick up a copy of Brazilian Fantasy by Cathryn Fox, and immerse yourself in this erotic yet poignant story. This is the fifth book from the Dossier series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. Piper Young is a hardworking daycare teacher with a ton of heart. She has a degree in business that she would like to put to good use, however, corporate has yet to promote her. In addition, her fiance recently dumped her. Piper desperately needs a change of scenery, and one of her five best friends comes to her rescue. It is Piper's turn for an unknown adventure, and that is how she ends up in Brazil, looking forward to fun and epic sex. Imagine her surprise when she finds out she is the temporary nanny to a billionaire's four-year-old daughter. Lucas Santos is a widower that lives with tremendous guilt in regards to his late wife's death. He is an extremely successful software engineer that works from his home in order to be close to his young daughter, Maddie. Maddie has not spoken since her mother passed away and she takes a while to warm up to new people in her life. Piper and Lucas find each other incredibly attractive, and fall in love during the three weeks that Piper is in Brazil. Piper's ability to quickly bond with Maddie only adds to Lucas's newfound feelings. They have a ton of epic sex, which fulfills the friendship pact Piper and her friends agreed to years ago. Ms. Fox does an amazing job of combining a sexy story with a touching plot. Piper and Lucas are extremely likable characters, because they are genuine and nurturing. Their sexy times are hot, especially when a closet is the only private space available. Lastly, this novella has a wonderful ending that will leave you with a huge smile on your face. Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
Tears will turn to Love in this amazingly heartfelt romance. Cathryn Fox delivers the pairing of Piper with Lucas. A much needed sexy vacation starts out to be a babysitting gig. Pages explore tragedy, loss, healing and joy. A glass of wine and this sweet story will not disappoint. I have read a few of Cathryn Fox novels and they all had a HEA and no cliff hangers even though this is #5 in a series it can be picked up out of order. "A copy of this book was supplied by Entangled Publishing, LLC via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."
Sent to Brazil as part of a sorority pact, Piper meets Lucas who could possibly be the man of her dreams. Problem is this is suppose to be a short fling. Add in Lucas' adorable daughter and Piper sees nothing but heartbreak in her future. This is a quick steamy read that will make us all want our own Brazilian fantasy man! I definitely recommend this one.
This was the sweetest of the 5 books in the series so far, and I really enjoyed it. All the books in this series are smoking hot, and quite fun to read. Piper Young made a pact with her friends. They each drew a name, and each of them will get an adventure to go on for their 25th birthday, completely planned out and paid for by the person who drew their name. Piper has been sent to Rio de Janeiro for weeks of fun in the sun. Part of the pact is, none of them is aloud to come home without having epic sex. Piper is a daycare teacher, and because of that, she's decided to never have kids of her own. They can be so horrible! She isn't sure what to expect in Brazil, but it's definitely not to be staying with her friend Alyssa's widower cousin and his mute little girl. She's to be the girl's temporary nanny while the actual nanny is on vacation. She's going to kill Alyssa. How is she supposed to have an epic trip under these circumstances?? Lucas Santos is a workaholic. He's poured himself into his job ever since the death of his wife, but to be honest, it was like that before as well. His daughter, Maddie, has been emotionally scarred by her mother's death, and hasn't spoken since it happened. He works now from a home office to be closer to Maddie when she needs him, and he has an old family friend who has become Maddie's nanny. With her on a well deserved vacation, he needed a fill-in, and his cousin Alyssa sent her friend Piper. Except it becomes apparent right away that Piper had no idea the situation she was walking into. Lucas also isn't expecting the attraction he feels for her. Lucas and Piper have crazy chemistry from the beginning, but they are both fighting it for their own reasons. For a short novella, this is a bit more of a slow burn than the other stories in this series. Piper and Maddie get along so well and she cares so much for the girl, and she's worried about getting involved with Lucas when she's supposed to be leaving in a few weeks. Lucas is worried about his daughter's emotional state, and he wants Piper to be able to help with that, and doesn't want to get in the way. I loved the way they tiptoed around each other until they just couldn't any more. This was a sweet, sexy short story, and I enjoyed it very much. I highly recommend this entire series to anyone looking for a quick and dirty fun read. There's only 1 book left to go, and the heroine is the instigator of their little friendship pact. I can't wait to see how her story comes out!
This is a sexy and fun romance that fans of the genre will enjoy. I loved Piper and the way she embraced her fantasy vacation to Brazil that was set up for her by her friend. Then, once she arrives, she learns that she's the nanny.....lol.....and plotting her friend's demise. Imagine being on a fantasy vacation with a sexy bazillionaire to then find out he sees you as the staff....sigh. This novel moves quickly and made me smile. While it is predictable, it is told in a fun way with a bit of spice. Romance fans will want to put this one on their TBR list.
