He's off-limits. Forbidden. And so unbearably tempting.

No one can throw me off my game. I'm a scientist -- serious, cool, and...yeah, a little bitchy. Then irresistible bad boy Archer West arrives unexpectedly in Mirror Lake and has the audacity to suggest we have a hot, wild fling while he's in town.

Hot and wild are no longer my thing. And though the sexy, rebellious biker gets me going, I'm focused on my tornado research project. Not to mention, Archer is the estranged brother of my best friend.

I can't risk an affair with a trouble-making rebel, no matter how much he charms me with his devilish grin and his love for chocolate milk.

But Archer won't give up. He wants me to lose control. He says he'll make me surrender.

Let him try.

I fell in love with Dean and Liv in the Spiral of Bliss series. That love affair continues with the bad boy brother, Archer West, in Break The Sky. This was the perfect companion to a wonderful series and I loved getting to know Archer and Kelsey better. He is a strong alpha lead character and she is a feisty woman that needs the right man to take charge. Archer did not disappoint! The entire series is a MUST READ!

It took me way longer than I wanted to make time for Archer and Kelsey’s story. I’m so glad that I finally did. Author Nina Lane’s writing was flawless, steamy, heartfelt, and at times even amusing. These two characters were first introduced in the Spiral of Bliss novels about married couple Liv West and Professor Dean West, Archer’s older brother and Kelsey’s best friend. Archer West’s turbulent past and drifter lifestyle was in sharp contrast to Dr. Kelsey March’s very orderly and academic life. Neither knew the other’s background when they clicked in a dingy bar in Forest Grove one random night though. Their intensity when they got up close and personal was amazing. But, I also loved that they had fun with flirty text messages and phone sex calls, two things that I never get enough of in books. I enjoyed taking the journey with them as their sexual chemistry and their desire for an easy, fun and satisfying affair eventually got complicated by their emotions and other gritty real life issues. Kelsey’s career as a professor in the Meteorology department up for tenure at King's University in Mirror Lake plays a huge role in the novel. Personally, I’m not a weather geek, but I did enjoy how the weather sometimes highlighted the current state of their relationship. ‘My risk-taking, brilliant scientist girl. She needed storms. She needed her mother and her secret craft room. She needed to chase tornados, to be pushed to her limits, to predict the unpredictable. And even if she didn’t know it yet, she needed me.’ ~Archer ~*~ ‘Archer was a storm, no doubt, one who electrified and consumed me, but he was also every part of the storm. He was the calm right in the center of it. He was the blue sky behind the clouds. He was the sheltering place where I could crawl into safety.’ ~Kelsey I loved how alpha Archer proved this to no-nonsense Kelsey and how eventually they found a way to have it all – career progression, excitement, normalcy and love. “We’re so good together because we’re the same. And you’ll never belong to anyone else. Ever. Neither will I.” ~Archer There was also plenty of Liv, Dean and baby Nicholas interactions that made me alternately frown, sigh or smile. Fortunately, Archer and Dean worked through their sibling issues in a very realistic manner, giving Archer yet another reason to nurture his ties to his family and to a life with Kelsey in Mirror Lake. Up next for me to read in this Spiral of Bliss universe is Adore, the 4th novel about married couple, Liv and Dean.

TITLE~ Break the Sky AUTHOR~ Nina Lane GENRE~ Contemporary Romance PUBLISHED~ July 29th 2014 by Snow Queen Publishing PURCHASED/COST~ Copy Provided For Review MY RATING~ 4/5 MY THOUGHTS~  I was provided with a copy of this book for review. I very much enjoyed reading this book! I love anything atmospheric to begin with and a good love story, and this book rolled them right up together! Awesome! I fell in love with the characters in Break the Sky. Not even just the main characters, but the secondary ones too. Author, Nina Lane, really let us get to know them and they’re well developed. The story line itself is pretty original. The whole book was well written and wrapped up nicely. I intend to read more from this author!

This was such an incredible story. Lane writes a beautiful story about bad boy trying to do that right thing. He's such an alpha, but he's also thoughtful and caring. I just love how he wants to share ever part of Kelsey's life. He genuinely just wants to know her. Not who she show's people who she is. "I'm not always myself when I'm with you,"I'd once told Archer. "Yeah, you are."His deep, warm voice echoed in my memory. "You just don't know it yet." This just made my heart melt. This story was funny, exciting, interesting and so sexy! I can't wait to read more from Lane.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from author Nina Lane and from Choosy Bookworms.  Kelsey is a strong willed, scientific educated woman who also is a storm chaser and when she meets her friends brother sparks fly. Archer was going to spend a couple days trying to reconnect with his brother but finding Kelsey was unexpected pleasure and pain. This has got to be in the top 10 romance books I have read so far. The dynamic interaction between the 2 lead characters was great. The author wrote a very smooth flowing book from start to finish with out any dead ends to get you confused. This is an adult romance because of strong language and sexual content and is for mature romance book readers.

For those of you who have read The Spiral of Bliss series by Nina Lane. You know the character's this book is about Kelsey March and Archer West - Dean West's brother. The black sheep of the family. We haven't seen much of him in previous books, but get prepared to see him LOTS in this one.  Archer comes to visit Dean and liv, and on the way he meets liv's friend Kelsey. They both have issues and baggage. Archer is Hot ladies. You will get to see a side to him in this you will love. We have a new book boyfriend in Archer. We get to see behind Kelsey's sharp tongue as well.  I loved this book. I loved that Nina included all of the previous characters so you feel like you are reading were you left off from Awaken(book 3) I was glued to this book, I couldn't put it down. I love all the characters in this series and love seeing Archer from a different prospective.  This book will pull at you, it's amazing. Nina Lane has an extraordinary talent at writing. Drawing you into the world she has created and seeing it through her eyes, picturing it as if it was playing out before your eyes. I can't wait to see what she creates next.  This gets 5/5 stars and 3/5 for movie moments.

I am a HUGE Nina Lane fan; her Spiral of Bliss series is one of my most memorable favorites. When I heard that Kelsey was getting her own spin-off novel, I couldn’t wait, and then when I found out that Kelsey AND Archer (Dean’s brother) were getting one together, I had the book on pre-order as fast as I could! Dr. Kelsey March is professor of Atmospheric Science, colleague, and, I suppose you would say, best friend of Dr. Dean and Olivia West. Kelsey doesn’t fit the stereotypical mold of a college professor – most college professors don’t walk around with blue streaked hair. She has a sassy no-nonsense way about her, but when it comes to friends and family, she’s ferociously loyal, but she’s also as wild as the tornados she used to chase. Archer is the family “black sheep,” and he seems to do everything he can to live up to that reputation. His relationship with Dean is strained, at best, but Archer has a soft spot. He must, because he’s made a special trip to town just to meet his new nephew, Nicholas. On his first night, Archer stops in for a drink at the neighborhood pub, and starts a game of cat-and-mouse with the beautiful blond with the electric blue streak in her hair. He boldly suggests a fling while he’s in town, and she readily accepts. That is, until the next morning when he Archer walks into his brother’s office at the University, running into (literally) Kelsey. Once she makes the connection between her best friend and his brother, Kelsey has second thoughts, but Archer’s seductive pursuits are relentless, and it seems like it’s just be a matter of time before Kelsey acquiesces. Archer West has lived a life that is the complete opposite of Kelsey’s, and he makes no apologies for it. He doesn’t owe anyone anything, and he sure as hell doesn’t expect anything from anyone either – least of all his brother, Dean. Despite all of his bravado, though, there’s something about Archer that made me keep thinking come on, Kelsey, give the guy a chance. Kelsey, though, has her own walls, understandable ones, and while she finds the thought of a fling with Archer appealing – I mean, the guy’s sexy as sin for heaven’s sake – the fear of falling for him holds her back. Expecting Professor March to settle down is like asking the weather she studies to be still. Break the Sky is a romantic love story, but if you’re expecting a sweet and tender romance, this is NOT the book! Archer is all alpha male. He’s dirty talking, tough and tatted, and not opposed to a sensual spanking if the need presents itself. Kelsey, enjoys a little kink, too, and the two of them definitely stir up their own kind of storm. Author Nina Lane has written a gripping story of lust and attraction, love and affection. Break the Sky has it all, and at the risk of spoiling anything, let me just say this: Ms. Lane herself once told me, “I’m a sucker for happy endings.” That is all. Nina Lane has done it again! Five stormy stars.

Break the Sky is a sexy contemporary romance novel by Nina Lane. It's a spin-off from her Spiral of Bliss series. I haven't read the other series, but I still really enjoyed this book. It's a well written, passionate story about a college professor and a handsome bad-boy biker. Kelsy March is a college professor who has a passion for studying tornadoes and figuring out how to predict them. Archer West is the bad-boy brother of her friend Dean West (from the Spiral of Bliss series). Archer comes to town to visit his brother, and he and Kelsy are immediately attracted to each other. However, they lead completely different lives. Archer is a drifter. He doesn't really have a steady job and he's done things in his past that he's not proud of. He is as wild and unpredictable as a tornado – which is exactly what draws Kelsy to him. Kelsy is a little on the uptight side. Maintaining her reputation is important to her. Archer somehow convinces her to have a fling with him – just while he's in town. Have some fun and then move on. Neither of them predicted that they would fall for the other. This book is seriously swoon-worthy! The love scenes are so passionate and hot. The whole book is just beautifully written. I was hooked from the beginning. Now, I totally have to read the Spiral of Bliss series. I've heard so many great things about it. If you are a fan of steamy hot romances, then I definitely recommend Break the Sky.

~Reviewed by FRANCESCA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog Here’s the thing about covers…they CAN be misleading.  I saw this cover and immediately thought “hot biker book”.  And although our hero rides a bike, this is not an MC romance.  It is however, a family centered story.  And I do enjoy those quite a bit (even more so than MC books).  This book spins off from the series SPIRAL OF BLISS, being the story about Professor Dean West’s brother.  Since this was my first read by this author, I missed out on some background because I didn’t read the previous books.  However, I think this worked very well as a standalone.  And as much as I thought Dean was interesting enough, I actually have no desire to go back and read his story. But back to the brother, Archer West is a self proclaimed bad boy and the family black sheep.  That might because he’s not 100% really part of the family.  Archer’s brother, Dean, takes the rose colored glasses off of him at an early age, revealing he has a different father.  And he’s the product of their mother stepping out and cheating on her husband.  Archer has never been able to recover from that.  He’s been a loose cannon ever since. He is just misunderstood and needs some love.  I liked him pretty quickly because he shows a caring side.  One that is still looking for acceptance and love, and still tries to show that he cares for his family.  Kelsey on the other hand is an atmospheric scientist, ex storm chaser and current University Professor.  She has become this tough chick because of her past and she’s made something of herself.  Now thinking that the grown up thing to do is giving up her passion for chasing storms and just working behind the scenes back from University. I think that both characters could’ve been more.  I liked Archer more than I liked Kelsey, to be honest, but I think they were both wishy washy and a bit weak.  Their dialogue felt scripted at times.  But what really got me ready to pull my hair out?  The indecisiveness of both characters!!!  The constant back and forth.  The “I can’t be with you because of this and that … Ok I’ll leave… What do you mean? You’re giving up so easy?” behavior.  Mostly on the heroine’s part.  It happened once, it happened twice, it kept happening.  I wanted to beat some sense into her!  With a wooden spoon!  Then it was contagious and other characters were doing it.  Arghhhhhh  Putting that aside, I did find Kelsey and Archer somewhat entertaining as a couple.  They were just not memorable.  I loved the original concept of incorporating storm research into this book.  It made it original and interesting for me and probably was my absolute favorite thing about the book.  That and the small details that were key moments in the Archer/Dean brotherly dynamics as well as the Archer/Kelsey relationship building.  There were so many cute moments (the tree house, the nickname, the coin, the comic book…), even if some of them could also be cheesy.  Loved those! I feel bad classifying this as new adult because by definition I think these two are older and should fall under just contemporary romance, but their maturity level?  Yeah, just wasn’t there.  As far as this being erotic romance?  I think everyone has different ideas on what they consider erotic romance and what just falls on a sexy contemporary.  So lets call this one sexy and lets leave it at that. *Review copy provided by author

Nina Lane’s “Break the Sky” is amazeballs! I’ve had Nina Lane’s “Spiral of Bliss” series on my “to be read” list for like ever and everyone is always buzzing about her, so I was excited when I finally got the chance to read one of her stories. Break the Sky is a spinoff of “Spiral of Bliss,” but I read it as a standalone book and didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything. I love the characters and the story. I always love it when the guy has a sexy nickname for the girl. <3 Storm Girl <3 The chemistry between Archer and Kelsey is hot, hot, hot! I wouldn’t change a thing about this one!

This book blew me away! I wasn't expecting this to be so intense and strong and raw when I started it and it left me feeling soo good after finishing it. I'm really gonna miss Archer and Kelsy! Kelsy is a teacher. She's the definition of a straight and narrow woman. She doesn't do wild or impulsive. She's predictable, reliable.  Archer is a force of nature of his own. He's wild and honest. Intense and direct. He's... male as Kelsy puts it.  I remember this quote that says: "Never love a wild thing", I think is perfect  to describe the relationship between Kelsy and Archer. You see, Archer is not the kind of man who can settle... it's just wrong, like a tigger in a cage, you know he belongs in the wild world, running free. Kelsy knows this, Archer knows this. And they are scare that maybe one day, what they feel won't be enough to keep them together.  This book is a piece of art. Told in dual POV, without changing from chapter to chapter all the time (something that sometimes confuses me tbh), it gives you insight to both charaters hopes and fears.  The romance happens fast and yet with them is the perfect pace, I mean it feels right that they crashed suddenly.  Tehir relationship is really volatile. They are good and then they aren't. Their personalities so alike in some ways. If Archer is the tigger that can't be tame, Kelsy is the cat. She might love the comfort of a rutine and a place to call home, but never forget that felines are never tamed. She longs for everything Archer brings.  I loved how Break the Sky is not just about the love story. Each character has a personal journey in the story as well. And while they support each other in it, they overcome them on their own. The secondary characters are great help in this path. Reaing Break the Sky is a whole experience. It kept me on edge. It broke my heart. I laughed, I cried, I hoped it would never end while needing to know how it would end. And it didn't dissapoint me. My favourite quote from this and what I feel helps a lot in understanding the book  "He pushed. I yielded. He gave. I took. He captured. I surrendered." -Break the Sky by Nina Lane

:  4.5 stars BREAK THE SKY is the first adult, contemporary, spin-off erotic romance storyline from Nina Lane's seductive Spiral of Bliss series. This is Archer West and Kelsey March's storyline. Archer is Dean West's (Spiral of Bliss) brother and Kelsey is Dean's best friend and fellow professor.  BREAK THE SKY can be read as a stand alone storyline but the SPIRAL OF BLISS series is one of the most compelling and captivating series you will ever read and I recommend it for your next go to series. The premise of the storyline follows Kelsey as she endeavors to get funding for her tornado research known as the Spiral Project. As an atmospheric scientist Kelsey is hoping the university sees fit to continue the project, but with her tenure and funding depending on research results, the possibility for both lowers as time stretches forward. Archer West is the bad boy-from a troubled childhood to an even more troubled adulthood, Archer has always felt like an outsider at home and at school. His arrival in town finds Archer and Dean facing off about family and the past. Archer's lack of stability and his history with the law, finds Dean on the defensive when Archer and Kelsey pursue a relationship for which neither one is prepared. The relationship between Archer and Kelsey is seductive and hot.  Neither Kelsey nor Archer is willing to give up control-in their personal lives nor in the bedroom. But the moment Kelsey surrenders to Archer's control, she knows she is lost.  The secondary characters include Dean and Liv from the original Spiral of Bliss trilogy. The reader gets a glimpse at their current life, new family and what may be in store for the future. Dean and Liv's Butterfly House is the catalyst that brings all of our characters together-while Archer helps with the renovations, Dean begins to learn a little more about his brother-something he hasn't done for a very long time. The first three books in  Nina Lane's SPIRAL OF BLISS series is one of the most romantic series that I have had the opportunity to read- It is seductive, sensual and arousing.  Dean and Liv's relationship will break your heart with its' intensely personal and emotional look at two people whose love for one another is both beautiful and alluring. Archer's storyline is a little more aggressive; the characters are a little more abrasive. Where Nina’s first three books in the series were sensual and arousing, Break the Sky is erotic and intense. Archer is not his brother; he is rougher around the edges with life experiences that have hardened his heart to family and to the future. Archer isn't willing to surrender or turn over control to anyone until Kelsey March shows him what it is to be truly loved.

Wow just wow! I loved Dean West in the Spiral of Bliss series- he was hot oh so hot! But Archer West...well he is something else! He is hot, sexy, broken and an alpha male who goes after what he wants. He and Kelsey have a connection right from the start. He leaves it all up to the toss of a coin when they meet in a dark bar. Archer and Dean have issues...unresolved issues. This story is much more than the connection between Kelsey and Archer it is about Archer's unresolved issues that go back to his painful past. I didn't think that I would be so taken with Archer but his story is just amazing! Nina Lane out did herself with this book and I hope there will be more to come. If you haven't read any of her books I recommend you do, the Spiral of Bliss series is a great series and this book doesn't disappoint. Thank you Nina Lane for another amazing story!

5 breathtaking stars! Favorite Quotes: “Everything changed after that.  And everything stayed the same.”   “My heart flipped just like the coin – a wild seamless spin flashing silver.  I felt my heart suspend in mid-air for an instant, poised to drop, and I had the sudden, irrational sense that it too, could fall right into the palm of his hand.” My Review: I rarely give 5 star ratings - as I feel that standard should be reserved for only the exceptional masterpieces.  That being said - this book deserves 6!   This book is exquisite!  I had never read Nina Lane’s work before picking up Break the Sky, but have plans to seek out her entire catalog.  I know I am a bit old for the position - but am now her total fan-girl.  Each paragraph held a treasure.  The story and characters were complex and beautifully written, yet easy to follow and adore.  Her writing is rich with texture and detail.  I could smell and taste the bacon, I could hear the rain and storms raging, I grew tense and upset when they did, I was exhausted when they were depleted, I let out my held breath when they breathed a sigh of relief.  I think I may even have been swaying while they danced… To say I was totally involved or captivated… sounds trite.  I was enthralled - and I loved every minute of it!  Her love scenes were emotional and passionate, as well as sensual - which I adore.  Although Ms. Lane’s writing squeezed my heart and brought me to tears several times, this book was a delicious treat beginning to end.  I know I will be thinking and raving about this one for quite some time.

“I would never be able to protect myself from the storm. Because the storm was everything-love, desire, happiness, sorrow, pain. Life.” Archer West is the total opposite of his devastatingly beautiful, intelligent professor brother. He is the epitome of a bad boy. While Dean was always the star of the family, Archer was on the path to destruction. Even as an adult, he drifted from place to place. Never had a sense of belonging. Never really cared about belonging. Until Kelsey. Kelsey March is an intense, witty, intelligent professor who also happens to be good friends with Archer’s brother, Dean. Kelsey is so wrapped up with her career. She has no time for romance. Until Archer. He has her feeling things she never thought possible. Things she never knew she wanted.  “Now I wanted to be caught. By him. I wanted him to fight for me, pursue me, want me, and capture me.” The connection between Archer and Kelsey is undeniable. Their chemistry speaks volumes. While Archer is so sure he can get Kelsey to surrender, she goes into defense mode. She knows Archer is the type she is attracted to, but she shouldn’t want someone like him. Good girls like her shouldn’t go for bad boys like him.  Someone so broken. Someone that pushes her to the limit. Makes her face her fears. Archer is that and more. Little does she know that Archer is just what she needs. Little by little, Kelsey’s true self is exposed. And this scares her. Archer digs deep down into the layers of Kelsey and sees her for everything she is. Kelsey opens up Archer’s heart. He has been so content about closing off his heart. But Kelsey makes him want to be able to love. Again.  “I wondered how he could seem both whole and broken at the same time. He was like a painting whose varnish had cracked over time and yet was all the more beautiful because of the damage.” Break The Sky is beautifully and flawlessly written and this is no surprise. The author has a talent of writing the sexiest stories with intense and passionate romance. You will swoon over this story. While Archer is known for being a bad boy, his heart knows no boundaries. He loves with a love so deep.   “...though the phrase fell in love sounded much too simplistic to describe everything I felt for Archer.” This story is much more than bad boy falls in love. Archer harbors a past so painful. This broken man’s spirit was awakened the moment he met Kelsey. You felt his soul breathe during that moment. Break The Sky was emotional, passionate, and an overall beautiful story that confirms that even love can be found in the darkest places.
