Breathe (Rosewood Bay Series #2) by Carly Phillips

She kept their child a secret. Can he give her a second chance and the happily ever after she's always wanted?

Completing his newest renovation job is the chance Jake Nichols needs to prove himself to his mentor, to make his daughter proud, to feel like himself again after his divorce. He's used to starting over. From troubled teen to successful contractor, sometimes it feels like starting over is all he's ever done.
Discovering his first love is in charge of the project changes everything. Phoebe Ward. She's not what he remembers. She's better. Grown up, more beautiful than ever, and back in his life.

Phoebe is no stranger to starting over either. Her days in foster care and her life as a teenage mother taught her how to survive ... despite the broken heart she still carries inside her. She thought she'd never see Jake Nichols again. Until a client meeting brings her face to face with her first love. A boy... now a sexy man she thought she'd never see again ... and the father of her child.

After all these years, they finally have a chance to finish their story--if they can find their faith in a happy ending.

OK story but way too short. Definitely not worth 4.99 should be 99.

Breathe brings us back to Rosewood Bay for Phoebe Ward's story. After reading Fearless, I was really looking forward to Phoebe and Jake's second chance romance; unfortunately, I didn't connect with the characters as well as I usually do. I loved the idea of Phoebe and Jake reuniting after being separated for so many years, but personally, I was disappointed by the drama of Jake's ex-wife. I think their story would have been special without that added in. That being said, I was glad to see a different side of Phoebe than what we saw in Fearless, and I am still looking forward to what comes next for the Ward sisters in Rosewood Bay. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

5 star review Breathe (Rosewood Bay #2) by Carly Phillips   Not only is this the second book in the series, but it is also a second chance at love story and is about Jake Nichols and Phoebe Ward.   Both Jake and Phoebe met when they were in foster care and fell in love. Circumstances tore them apart and yet they never forgot their first loves, particularly Phoebe as their love resulted in her son. Life hasn’t been easy for Jake and Phoebe; Jake having found himself in prison thanks to his anger issues has now turned his life around and settled down spending his time working and looking after his 6 year old daughter. Imagine the shock they both feel when circumstances bring them together again; particularly Phoebe who unsuccessfully searched for Jake. Jake is now a divorced single father and a successful general contractor. Phoebe is a successful real estate agent who is now in charge of Jake’s latest project.   What will happen when Jake finds out about the son he never knew he had? Can Jake and Phoebe move on from the past and take the chance that fate has dropped at their feet? Can Phoebe overcome her feelings of abandonment and give Jake a chance to be a father to their son? To make a future together and for them all to become a family; or will Jake’s ex-wife get in the way? The chemistry between Jake and Phoebe sizzles, their story romantic. I really liked both Jake and Phoebe and found myself engrossed in their story. I have found from previous books that Ms. Phillips has a strong writing style and Breathe is no exception. Her characters are strong and easy to relate too. I particularly liked how she built the story up. Although a stand alone I do think you would enjoy reading book 1 Fearless as well. This series gets better and better and I cannot wait for the next book in the Rosewood Bay series.

I love a good second chance romance and this book fit that bill and even threw in a secret baby! There is a little drama thrown but no so much as to pull away from the romance that Jake and Phoebe are rediscovering. I love being able to sit down to read and forget life for a while, Ms. Phillips gave me that with this book!

Jake and Phoebe meet as teenagers in foster home. She is a sweet girl, abandoned by her mother and separated from her younger sister. He is a rebellious teenager, troublemaker and explosive personality. They engage in something stronger than a simple friendship and this results in their separation. Years later they meet again and this strong passion that has stood the test of time can have a second chance. But there is a lot of baggage between them. Phoebe created Jamie, a smart eleven-year-old boy, the fruit of that love. Jake is a mature man of moderate personality who has an ex-wife, Lindsay, and is the father of a six-year-old girl, Callie. Despite her insecurities Phoebe is a strong and determined woman. She can be sweet, sensitive and understanding while putting herself firmly to protect her child and her heart. And her dignity in the face of sexual harassment. The chemistry and love between Jake and Phoebe obviously did not die. It is more alive than ever. But the baggage they carry can disrupt this happy ending. While Jake is totally sure that she wants Phoebe back in her life and forever, the protagonist has many caveats about this involvement and fear of suffering in the future. And Lindsay's behavior does not help much. Although all of Phoebe's fears and reservations, which theoretically would make the plot slow and actionless, the narrative occurs naturally. With some pleasant surprises and warm-hearted scenes. The ending is cliché, but it is nevertheless full of tenderness. Suitable for those who enjoy a cute book, without many surprises and twists.

This is a wonderful second chance romance. The story of two people that started life with hardship and struggled to get ahead. It is a great storyline with plenty of drama, heartbreak, secrets, romance and passion. I really enjoyed reading and can recommend. I received this book as a gift and voluntarily give this review.

The second book in the Rosewood Bay series, I haven't read the first and although you can tell in the story there are references to what happened in the previous book in here it was quite easy to read as a standalone without having read book 1. The was a delightfully sweet second chance romance, a real easy read that had me engrossed from the word go. Phoebe and Jake were in the foster system together at 16, she ended up pregnant and he got kicked out and she was unable to find him. Fast forward 11 yrs and she ends up meeting him through business, never dreaming she would ever see her son's father again, unaware he is a dad! Jake has had a rough few years since getting kicked out of his foster home - but he's getting there, now in business, divorced but with a 6 yr old daughter with an ex wife who just won't let him go. Never did he expect to meet Phoebe again, the girl he never got over, his heart still belongs to her, and he will do anything to not let her go again. Thoroughly recommended, I loved this story and how it played out - sweet, romantic, a little bit of angst and a bit steamy in places, a lovely read!

This was such a great story, very relatable book. Phoebe and Jake with history from their youth. Phoebe has insecurities from losses in her family and loosing Jake when she was just sixteen.

This was a great, quick read! I enjoyed the reunited love aspect of the story, and there was the perfect amount of drama (even though I wanted to shake Jake a few times and give him a little guidance on handling a certain secondary character, but it all worked out perfectly in the end). Phoebe was a great heroine, who had her insecurities but didn’t let them bother her too much. A great read I would definitely recommend!!!

I just loved this book. It got me right in the heart with the feels. It's a second chance romance. Jake and Phoebe gets a chance at the future the always wanted so long ago as teens. Only problem now as adults and different people do they still want that future. The emotion boiled over causing me tear up a few times. Sometimes sad ones, but often happy ones. I was rooting for Jake and Phoebe the whole way because those deserve their second chance at happiness. This book has left me highly anticipating the next book in the series.

This is book two in the Rosewood Bay series and it features Phoebe Ward and Jake Nichols. This is a wonderful, feel good second chance romance. Of course we have the ex-wife who asked for the divorce but didn’t REALLY want it. It’s that old saying, “be careful what you wish for.” She’s a real whiny, needy pain in the tush, which makes things harder for everyone involved. Jake is a great guy and just alpha enough to be amazingly sexy! This is a perfect summer read with a heart melting story line and enough steam to keep you wiping your e-reader screen. It’s always a pleasure to read stories by this author and I can’t wait for book 3!

Breathe is the second book in the Rosewood Bay Series. A second chance meeting of your first love, and the father of your son. Phoebe Ward is shocked to see Jake Nichols is the foreman for the renovations on a house she is selling. Phoebe never stopped loving Jake - will she finally get a chance at getting her HEA. If Jake has anything to say he will get his HEA with the love of his life - Phoebe. There are obstacles they must overcome, but together as a unit they can do anything! I truly enjoyed getting to know more about Phoebe and Jake, and watching how they handle being together again after their separation, and the work that goes into getting their HEA. I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This second story in the Rosewood Bay series was an enjoyable read and a nice sweet, easy going second chance romance. That had likable characters, and enough heat to really hold my interest. Not to mention it was well paced, had little angst and was very engaging. And I would happily recommend it to others. **I was kindly provided with an ARC by Booksprout in exchange for an honest review**

ARC for honest review with no compensation Breathe is book 2 of the Rosewood Bay series by Carly Phillips and what an amazing second chance at finding the one who was taken away... Phoebe and Jake were both in foster care, in the same home and became more than friends until they were discovered together and he was taken from the home never to be heard from again. Little did Phoebe know that losing Jake, finding her Aunt and a surprise pregnancy would change her life. Now years later Jake comes back in her life totally unexpectedly, he's divorced with a daughter and still holding a torch for the girl from foster care..only to come face to face with that girl when he see Phoebe at a job site he is bidding on? Little does he know that he has a son too. Phoebe now has to determine if he is the same person from foster care or a changed man before she tells him about her life after he was removed from foster care. Will these two find that the love they had for each other all those years ago still holds true or have they both changed to much to open up and find love?? Was fun catching up with Kane and Halley and looking forward to seeing if their other sister, Juliette come back into their lives...

I always love everything Carly Phillips writes! Breathe is book 2 in the Rosewood Bay series and follows Phoebe in her 2nd chance at love. My favorite part about this book? It was that it was just a great, very well written, sweet, sexy romance without a lot of drama. It was just easy to fall into Phoebe and Jake's love story without being too anxious over what would happen next. Some twists and turns here and there, but just a great love story. You'll fall in love with Jake quickly and he'll make you swoon. Definitely recommend. Happy reading!

When I read the blurb for Breath it was like it was made for me. I mean, a single dad, a secret baby (so a single mom as well) two kids who found love in their teens amidst foster care and were separated by circumstances, now reunited serendipitously? Right there, that’s potential for magic to happen. While a solidly good story with low angst and a light feel to it, I have to confess that maybe my high expectations played against me. As I didn’t feel really connected to either character, their chemistry and sexual attraction never totally clicked for me, which made for some really awkward sex scenes in my head. I kept picturing that part of Love Actually where the couple who work in porn are filming the movie and they are like… mimicking sex while talking dispassionately about the weather? I liked both Jake and Phoebe well enough. They were committed to being good parents, both hard working, nice, and set on overcoming their pasts. Phoebe was understandably shy to trust completely and giving herself and her heart out. Jake having learned from his past, was all in the moment he found Phoebe again. Their kids, Jamie and Callie were cute but they didn’t get much on-screen time, which was a total bummer for me as I really enjoy when the children are an important part of the story. What’s more, the situation with Jake’s ex, as well as with Phoebe’s boss felt a bit like missed opportunities. Especially with the whole “ex” debacle, I really felt that should have been expanded on and worked more in depth to make it more believable. All in all, Breath was a nice, sweet romance with an uplifting message about family, love and being able to succeed in spite of the odds. And although it didn’t quite meet my expectations, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the story. *I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book*

Loved Jake and Phoebe's story! Jake was sexy, sweet and sincere. He wanted to be with Phoebe from the time he laid eyes on her again. When he found out he was the father of her 11 year old son, Jake was all in. His ex-wife wasn't ready to let him go though. But what Jake and Phoebe have wasn't something anyone was going to be able to take away. With the power of love they were able to overcome the pitfalls that were popping up in their way to grasp their happily ever after!

Phoebe and Jake were forced apart years ago, just before she found out she was pregnant. When a chance meeting reunites them, it's clear that their feelings for each other are just as strong as ever. But a lot has changed in those years, and they both have to work through a lot of personal issues in order to trust that they can have a future together. I just loved these characters, and was thoroughly captivated by this story. Phoebe's heart is strong even though she still feels very fragile, and Jake's determination to reclaim what he's lost is admirable and heartbreaking at the same time. They handle the complications with maturity and kindness and a surprising lack of drama. It's a terrific book with characters that will stay in your heart for a long while. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Touching story of fateful meetings and second chances. 2 single parents meet again and secrets long held are revealed. I enjoyed this story although felt at times like I wanted more - perhaps more of how they first met and fell in love so that I really FELT their connection. However still a heartwarming read. Sweet story.

I really enjoyed this story. This is a second chance love story. You will read about first love, separation from family and first love, new beginnings, and new family. You will read about a connection so strong years apart still doesn’t lessen the connection. Phoebe and Jake met while in foster care and fostered in the same house. A connection between the two was instant and just grew the more they got to know each other. They fell in love but was separated once the foster parents found out about the two of them. Fast forward 15 years. Jake and Phoebe are both back in their home town and are surprised to see each other after so many years apart. Jake is now a divorced and a father of a little girl that he cherishes. Phoebe is a single mother of a son. As Jake and Phoebe get reacquainted, feelings they thought were gone are still very active. After all that Phoebe has been through including raising her son without his father around, will she allow herself to trust Jake enough to let him take care of them? And once Jake finds out the huge secret Phoebe didn’t tell him about the first time they seen each other again, will he be able to forgive and be allowed to be the family man and father he’s always wanted?

This is one of the best second-chance stories that I have read in quite a while. Jake Nichols and Phoebe Ward met 11 years ago while in foster care and fell in love and when their foster parents found out, they sent Jake away and Phoebe had no idea where he had gone. But then after Phoebe's aunt found her and took Phoebe to live with her they found out that Phoebe was pregnant with Jake's baby. Now 10 years later, with the help of her family, Phoebe has been raising her son Jamie. After leaving foster care, Jake got into some trouble but since then has turned his life around. He is divorced and has a little girl but has never forgotten his first love, Phoebe. When they meet up again on a job there is still something there. But will it be enough to try again and make the family that they should have had a reality this time? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Can you tame the bad boy? Phoebe thought she had a chance until fate stepped in the way. And so the story begins of teenaged lovers trapped in a system hoping to get by and get out together. Fast forward twelve years and now Phoebe finds her one time love on her home turf. How does she tell him he has a son? Is he married? Does he have a family? All of the questions begin to plague her. Again, fate takes control when a freak encounter introduces Jake to his son. I felt for Phoebe throughout the book. I understood her fears of abandonment. When you lose control of something (being put in foster care, for example) you try to control other areas of your life to prevent disappointment and hurt. It doesn't always work, but you do what you have to. I love that she had her sister, Halley, in her court and could talk to her. And, the fact that Halley went and talked to Jake, even though Phoebe didn't know she was going to. I'm looking forward to Juliette's story. It will be interesting to see how the sisters react to each other.

This is the second book in the Rosewood Bay series by author Carly Phillips. The series is all about sisters who were seperated, some longer than others and their lives. This is a second chance story about a couple who met as kids in foster care and were tore apart. She went to live with her Aunt (when her auntie found out about her and her sister) and he...well Jake had a path that went the harder path. One that took him longer to reach Phoebe. But when they reconnected and all things clicked. and believe you me they clicked, nothing no even an Ex wife could keep them apart. I love the truth in the words and actions that Ms Phillips gives us in Breathe and yes i had tears. I am so looking forward to the missing sister's book next.
