I do enjoy a good novel based on historical facts, and I found this book to be a good read. The characters were well developed and the story line progressed at a reasonable pace. There is one irritating aspect I found in the book. . .that is the number of misspellings and wrong words found in various places throughout. It was obvious that a 'spell checker' program was used to check the content, often substituting a word that obviously did not belong. Having stated this I will probably look at other novels by this author.

Interesting story around the time of the 1812 war with our mother country. Our Navy was almost nonexistent and the writer introduces us to the problems, politically and socially, with building up our almost nonexistent navy. At the same time telling the story of a young lieutenant and his ordeal to make commander, to make a name for himself, and to contribute to the buildup of the US Navy. The story covers his first major assignment and the struggle within himself to be honorable to the navy, his family and himself. A good read.
