Hardened by the Gallia Furnace coal mines and a self-made student of war, David Evans is a fierce soldier in the 56th Ohio Volunteer Infantry where he is revered by his comrades for his strength and Medal of Honor heroics at the Battle of Port Gibson. Battling in the Western Theatre of the war as well, younger brother John A. Evans is slowly but surely working his way through the ranks of the 27th Ohio. And after a heavy loss soon stuns the Evans family, middle brother and Sergeant Richard D. Evans embarks on a path of retribution to deliver justice on his own accord.
