There once was a time when longhorns bawled and cowboys hollered on the dusty Chisholm trail . . .
When wild young men toting six-shooters danced with saloon girls and dreamed of the mother lode . . .
When Comanches on the warpath drenched the plains in blood . . .
And one hard, hurting cowboy began a legendary trek across the American west . . .

Magnificent, sprawling, and impeccably researched, Brules captures the exhilarating romance of a time and a place that will never exist again. An epic tale of one man's search for justice in the Old West, Harry Combs's classic novel tells the story of Cat Brules, whose life embraces the whole short turbulent history of the West . . . who sought revenge in a one-man war against the Comanche nation . . . who found brief, passionate love with a Shoshone woman . . . and who rode hell-bent toward the tragedy that would make him an outlaw, or a hero . . .

Praise for Brules

“A great achievement . . . Harry Combs's knowledge and love of the southwest shines through. The custom, tradition, history, wildlife, guns, and people are all there—it's real.”—Rosamunde Pilcher, author of The Shell Seekers

“One of the toughest, strongest, most exciting, most colorful westerns I've ever read.”The Advocate (Baton Rouge, La.)

I loved this book. Full of action and feeling, you can't help but feel for Brules. I liked it so much I named my horse after it!

This book was exceptional. I read it non-stop from LA to Singapore and back. You can smell the Commanche's because the writing is so perfectly descriptive. A must read for all who like westerns.

This book is so interesting and gets you so involved in the story you can not put it down. When I read a book this good I feel sad when I am done. If you like Westerns, the outdoors, adventure, romance or history you should read this book.

I have just finished reading Brules and thoroughly loved it! I haven't read many Western books but will probably start now if they're half as good as this one. I can't wait to receive my copy of Scout, the sequel. A great book that is hard to put down. Living in Colorado and having driven through the areas where the book takes place I could really imagine the scenery. I highly recommend reading this book.

Brules is an EXCELLENT book. It's so detailed, and you feel like you know Brules. This book is full of excitment, and even tears. I cried my eyes out. It's a wonderful book, very well researched. Brules lives an exhilirating life and it's very interesting. I'm 16, and I loved the book. I highly recommend it!

This is without a doubt the best western book I have ever read. I would hurry home just so I could continue to read this story. This is one tough man. I could not wait to get the next in the series. Hollywood missed on this opportunity for something equal to or better than 'Lonesome Dove'. A must read for any cowboy book lover

The type of book you want to read until the end. And, when it ends you want more! Good news, this is really the first of a 3 book series. All 3 are great. There's plenty of outdoor non-stop action and adventures with tremendous details. Brules skill and courage are unmatched as a marksman with a pistol or rifle. But as good as he is at survival, he can't seem to protect his loved one's or close friends and in the end you find your own heart breaking along with his.

Throughout the whole book(which you couldn't put down)I felt like I was with him on his adventures. Harry Combs paints a true Western historicl picture. I wish someone would make this series into a movie.
