I picked this one up during a free promotion and I didn’t realize right away it’s book four in the series. That didn’t stop me from enjoying the story at all though, the author did a great job introducing the characters without hitting you over the head with recap. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the writing, the dialogue is fast and snappy, the way I like it, and the internal monologue for Thea isn’t too whiny or introspective. We’ve got a good solid mystery surrounding the human skeleton dug up in Thea’s backyard, and the progression of the investigation follows a nice pace. What really sells this book for me were the characters, especially Thea’s family, her convoluted relationship with them and her boyfriend, Paul. There’s plenty of conflict, but deep down the relationships are solid. If I had one wish, it’d be for a bit more paranormal in the story, but that’s just where my tastes lie. Overall a satisfying read, and I’d definitely read more from this author.
