I started this book not knowing this was vampire but was pleasantly surprised when I figured it out. Reminiscent of Austen's Pride and Prejudice and easily in league with Harlequin's historical romances, I found the read enjoyable and surprising in parts. The alternate history was not only true for humans but for the supernatural set as well. Greene's lore was refreshing and plausible making it a believable storyline. This is one I can recommend for curling up with one a cold night. Beware young readers, there is some heat here not appropriate for young audiences.

Orphaned and left penniless after she ends up having to sell everything she owns to cover her father's debts, Victoria Kingston finds herself traveling to London with her little sister in tow. She ends up on her aunt's doorstep, detested by the very woman because of the fact that she resembles the woman whom, by her standards, bewitched her brother and caused him to leave everything he'd ever known behind. Her aunt makes it clear that she's not welcome, but she's more than willing to take her sister off of her hands. She gives the girl an ultimatum, citing that she'll need to marry in order to see her sibling. She further rubs this fact in by telling Victoria that she must get this done by the end of the month or she will forfeit her right to be her sister's guardian. With no other course of action, she confides in her best friend and together they concoct a plan that might offer Victoria the success she needs to gain an end to her own means. Yet there's one thing she hadn't counted upon, Prince Dorian Vlahkos. Dark, tall, and handsome, he stirs her blood in ways that no one else ever has. Her attraction grows by the day, yet she does her best to resist his charms. Thrown into the streets because of a stolen kiss with the man himself, she's catapulted into a world she's never really known. Dorian can't deny that he cares for the lovely minx, although he doesn't quite understand why. Refusing to leave her on the streets, he agrees to marry her, allowing her to retain her sister's guardianship; something that she's truly grateful for. Although, she doesn't exactly know what he is, at first, she soon comes to accept him as he is. Her heart refuses to believe that he's anything but a good man, even if he is a vampire. Bound by love, they strive to make the best of the cards that life has dealt them while trying to protect those they love. I enjoyed every moment of this story. The heat and the love that played out between both characters were truly endearing. Amanda painted such a vivid picture of their world that it wasn't hard to get so engrossed and attached to it and the characters within it. I'm truly looking forward to more of Amanda's work.

Victoria sets out to London after losing both parents and her father leaving her in debt, leaving her no choose but to sell everything and head to her Aunts house where she is meant with hostile Aunt and givin a ultimatum to marry in a month or be thrown out and never see her sister again. Dorian is in London to draw hunters to him away from his clan when he meets Victoria and sets out to have her. With both of them lusting after each other and not admitting to any other feelings to each each and Victoria gets pulled more and more into his world. Has some steamy scenes, fighting scenes and was great read that draws you in and leaves you wanting to read the next one.

"Caressed by Moonlight" is the first book in the 'Rulers of Darkness' series. Amanda pens her plot with plenty of action, suspense, romance, drama and tons of sexual tension, that it will just captivate you from the start. Her characters have great sexual chemistry and developed well. I love her descriptions of the characters and action, as they just placed me right in the middle of the scene! This review is based on a complimentary copy from the author which was provided for an honest review.

Historical Romance Meets Paranormal Romance! This book was set in 1814 and revolves around Victoria Kingston and Prince Dorian Vlakhos. After losing both of their parents and having to sell everything they own to pay off the family debts, Victoria and her sister Margaret are forced to ask their Aunt Nelly for refuge. Aunt Nelly never liked their mother and doesn’t like Victoria because she looks just like her. The Aunt reluctantly takes them in but tells Victoria she must marry within a month or be thrown out onto the street. As Victoria starts attending all the higher class social gatherings trying to lure a husband, she runs across Prince Dorian Vlakhos. She is told that he is a womanizer and not husband material, so she decides to ignore him to the best of her ability. Unfortunately for her, Dorian sees her as a challenge and sets out win her to his bed and foil all her attempts to land a husband. When Victoria is kicked out of her Aunt’s house and is now forced to pick a husband, Dorian realizes she is about to slip away from him and into the arms of another man. Desperate to keep her to himself, he finds himself scrambling to make her his own. The only problem is that he is a vampire and she is not. In the 1800’s, in London society, women didn’t have a lot they were allowed to do and had to work within the confines of good society or be outcast. Although Victoria is being forced into a marriage she didn’t want, she still seemed strong-willed and determined to do what was best for her and her sister. A strong heroine and a Vampire King just had ‘bite me’ written all over it! This was a very quick read for me. The story was interesting and I enjoyed the different take on vampires and witches that were presented by the author, Amanda Greene. Ms. Greene uses vivid descriptions in her writing without going overboard. It was very easy to picture the people and places she described. For a debut novel, Amanda Greene did a great job and I will look forward to reading more from her in the future.

I will be honest and say I really struggled between rating this book a 3 and a 4. I opted for the 4 only because I probably would give this book a re-read in the far future. Victoria is on the hunt for a husband and she only has a month to prove she's married in order to take her sister into her guardianship. I struggled slightly with the implausibility of that scenario, but since the story took place in the 1800s, I'm not sure if stuff like that ever happened or not, so I went with it. I did enjoy that the story was set back in a different time period. The romance was nice and I did find myself getting engrossed in their love story. It took an interesting twist as far as Victoria's life was concerned. Caressed by Moonlight is the first in a series. I would probably read the rest of the series to find out what happens to Victoria and Dorian.

After Victoria and her little sister lose their parents, they are left with nothing. Victoria even has to sell her family's country home to pay off her father's debts. Left with no other choice, they head to their aunt's home in London. Their aunt, who despises Victoria, gives her one month to find a husband before she kicks her out and keeps custody of Margaret. I felt so bad for Victoria's predicament. She is left with nobody except for her sister Margaret, and she will stop at nothing to find a husband so she can support and keep custody of her sister. She is even willing to marry somebody she doesn't love. She attends balls to meet men and that's where she meets Dorian. She refuses to give him a chance because of the things she has heard about him, but eventually she just can't stay away. This story is set in the 1800's, which makes it a little different than other paranormal romances. I haven't read many historical romances so this was a nice change of pace. Victoria and Dorian are a lot different from one another. She is pure, and he definitely is not. He has had plenty of women in his long, immortal life. There is something different about Victoria though that Dorian is drawn to. What will happen when she realizes he is a vampire? There are swoonworthy moments, sexual tension, and some hot love-making. These characters are great together. The characterization in this book is great as well. There are a lot of secondary characters that you get to know and instantly like. This is a great book that incorporates romance, action, suspense, and paranormal characters. I'd recommend this for vampire fans, and also for fans of historical romance.

Victoria Kingston and her younger sister Margaret are left poor, homeless and orphaned after their mother falls ill and dies and her father commits suicide. With nowhere else to go, Victoria and Margaret are sent to live with their Aunt Nelly, a cruel witch of a woman with darts in the eyes for Victoria. Suddenly, Victoria is told that she is incapable of caring for Margaret on her own, despite her age of 22, and is told that she must catch a husband by the end of the month or be tossed to the streets and forbidden to see her sister ever again. Desperate to keep her sister, Victoria does just as her Aunt request-she sets out to catch a husband. With the help of her best friend Lana, they set out to the fancy parties of London and there she meets Dorian-a prince from a foreign country who is known for luring woman to his bed. Amanda J.Green lured me in immediately with the gorgeously drawn cover and the 1800's based storyline. I enjoy reading novels that take place in 1800's London, especially when they involve romance. Victoria Kingston is a tough, independent woman with her eye on the ball. Knowing what she wants and doing what it takes to get it is one of her strongest facets-one I enjoyed quite a bit. I found Greene's story quite entertaining to read. Caressed by Moonlight was fast paced and easy to read. No unnecessary "fumble and jumble" , as I like to say, was present. Victoria was in no way an over-obsessive twit who instantly fell in love with Dorian. On the contrary, Victoria found herself despising him quite a bit and eventually grew to love him. I found myself very excited to learn about Dorian and his history and Greene's passionate scenes in the novel were very well written. On the down side, I found myself being quite confused as to where one characters narration would begin and end, and anther's would take over. There was no warning and one had to simply assume who was speaking. I also found myself loosing track of the time that passed throughout the novel. Despite those low points, I thoroughly enjoyed Greene's vampire romance and welcome it with open arms atop my bookshelf.

1814. Victoria and her little sister Margaret arrive in London after their mother died of illness and their father took his own life after losing his wife. They are homeless and penniless, and in the mercy of their Aunt who despises Victoria and her mother - which is why she has her own terms for their stay, Margaret will stay with her and Victoria has one month to find a husband before she is kicked out of her aunt's home. If these terms are not met Victoria will never see her sister again. Assigning her friends help she enters the balls of London society to snare a wealthy man with a title to keep her sister with her and manage to provide for them.In the London society Dorian Vlakhos is known as the Prince, but he is not a womanizing aristocrat that his reputation paints him as, but a Vampire King, and he has his eyes set on the stunningly gorgeous Victoria, who is doing her very best to avoid the scandal that follows Prince Vlakhos and gain a respectable marriage, and rights to her sister. She cannot afford to fall for Prince Vlakhos, which is why as much frustration and anger as he makes her feel she is doomed by the other feelings he stirs within her. One sweet stolen kiss though makes it clear to Victoria she cannot spend any more time with the Prince and his openly forward courting her into his bed.Not all is well back home with Dorian's Clan and hate and war spills even to the streets of London and now that Dorian's attention is on Victoria - so is the Hunter's. Amazing debut by Amanda J. Greene! Paranormal Romance readers will find a new vampire to swoon over, Dorian Vlakhos, the King of the Mylonas Clan!Wonderful book! Ah, I can't quite explain it, it's the suppressed women of 1800's and mixed with Vampires, Hunters and seduction it is a potent mix that makes you want to devour the book at one go. There is a delicious amount of sexual tension, hate, aggravation and attraction with Victoria and Dorian, and it keeps boiling over to the readers. In an age where appearances are everything and keeping your composure is critical a lot sure bubbles under the surface.I loved the character of Victoria, she's strong and capable, but not in the 21st century girl in 1800's London kind of way, but strong within her limits in the society she lives in. She also warm and has a little spitfire attitude when it comes to Dorian which is so enjoyable to read. As is Dorian who grew on me immediately, he's over confident, cocky and possessive in the best possible way, he's the kind of vampire you dream at night, little wicked, sexy as hell and one who doesn't take no for an answer and keeps circling you until you give into his charm.

Every now and then you come across a book that is the first in the series and it¿s so good you want to kick yourself for reading it. Not because it wasn¿t good, because you think to yourself well damn now I have to wait a whole year to read about these characters again. Caressed by Moonlight is one of those books for me.Amanda J. Greene has created a world in Caressed by Moonlight that you can really sink your teeth into. Set in 1814 England for most of the book, I honestly could envision all of the book. And I don¿t generally care for historical romance, but Caressed by Moonlight was just so well done to me. She has also created characters that you want to continue reading about after the last page has been turned.Speaking of characters I loved Victoria. Victoria has had every obstacle imaginable thrown her way, and every time she picks herself up and continues on. She was not some simple, wimpy girl. Victoria was strong, smart, and tenacious. Then Dorian comes into her life. Oh and talk about a hot vampire, not that she knows what he is at first. The chemistry between these two packed enough power to charge my eReader for eternity.Caressed by Moonlight has everything! There is action, suspense, lots of sexual tension, family drama, and love. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this read.I want the next one in this series, which will be out no later February 2012, and will be titled Caressed by Night. So, be on the lookout for that.Happy Reading,Rebecca

Caressed by Moonlight Review Posted At: Riverina Romantics My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 ¿ Heat Rating: 3.5 out of 5 ¿ Some people really have it hard, and whenever they come out on top it always brings a smile to my face. Imagine having your parents torn from you, and in order to pay off their debts and keep your younger sister, you sold everything you owned and moved in with a relative that clearly did not want you and treated you like dirt. That’s what Victoria had to do, and I loved that she never gave up. Victoria was a strong woman. Hell, with the life she was living she had to be. She did everything possible to take care of her little sister and make sure that they were always together. She took punishments with her head high. She took the verbal lashes silently. She put up with so much. And when her life with her sister was threatened, she stepped up to the challenge and finally broke free of the chains that have held her back for so long. She was willing to sacrifice anything she had to in order to keep her sister, and with the help of a very attractive and famous stranger, she was able to do so. When it came to Dorian, she knew it was not what she had planned, but he was everything she ever needed. The more time she spent with him, the more she came to realize the depth of her feelings for him. She was hopeful and innocent. But in that innocence, she had a strength that had always lived within her. When things in her life got turned upside down, she fell back on that strength to be the woman she truly was. She stood by Dorian and did everything in her power to save him. She trusted him. She believed in him. And most of all, she loved him. Dorian is a man with a lot on his plate. The last thing he needs is to come to the rescue of a beautiful woman he can’t seem to get out of his head. But that’s exactly what he does, and it’s unexplainable. She was a complication he had to have. He did everything he could for her and her sister. He took care of them. He provided for them. He even loved them. He did everything in his power to help them, and even more of his power to get Victoria to open up to him. He truly loved her, and didn’t realize it until things had severely hit the fan. He fought for her. He did everything in his ability to be there for her through the upturn of her life. He was a true gentleman, and a devoted lover. He protected her and her sister. He used his status to serve him and keep everyone he cared for safe. He cherished everything around it and wanted to take care of it. He was a very giving man, but he could be selfish when it came to the woman he loved. Although there were a few grammatical errors, it was a good start to a debut novel. The characters were decent. I did feel like she took a little too long to get to the reality of Dorian’s life, but after that it picked up. The love was a mild simmer, and even though I wish it could have been a bit steamier, overall their relationship was very good. I look forward to the next book. Never thought to mix Regency with a little paranormal. Nice.

This story is about so much more than just a typical paranormal romance.  Life and death, love and loss, family and friends, war and betrayal are all integral parts of the tale.  I was enchanted by the world that Greene created.  It was vivid and larger than life, yet well placed in London’s ton scene.  As with many first novels in a series it takes a while to get into the story while the author takes us deep into the world that she’s created.  Greene sets the scene well for this world, setting readers up for the rest of the series.  I found that the writing in this novel starts out rather forced and overly formal for a work of fiction, even a historical one.  I really evens out throughout the novel as the author finds her footing and her voice. I was quite intrigued with the cast of characters that Greene introduces us to in this novel.  I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the main characters.  They were both fun and serious.  Watching them get to know one another made the entire tale feel quite intimate.  The supporting cast was quite loveable as well.  They rounded out the story nicely, while also providing information pertinent to the forward flow of the story. This was a wildly scandalous and vividly imaginative novel that kept me coming back for more.  I can’t wait to see what comes next from this promising author. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
