Cat Got Your Cash: A Kitty Couture Mystery by Julie Chase

Lacy Marie Crocker's whimsical pet couture has gained a following in New Orleans's cozy Garden District, and word of mouth has traveled all the way to her favorite fashion designer, Annie Lane. Lacy's thrilled when Annie schedules a private session at her home to discuss a companion line for her evening wear, but when Lacy arrives for the appointment, she enters the kitchen to two mewling Siamese cats—and one very dead Annie.

Lacy takes the kittens home to care for them until they can be properly claimed by Annie's family or friends, but after a busy day of work, she returns home to find them missing. And when Lacy learns the cats are set to inherit Annie's fortune, she begins to wonder if the killer was after the kittens all along. Now Lacy will stop at nothing to save the Siamese and find justice for Annie—if the killer doesn't sink his claws into her first.

Luckily, Lacy has the help of handsome NOLA PD homicide detective Jack Oliver to help her catch the cat-napper before its too late in Cat Got Your Cash , the endearing second Kitty Couture mystery from Julie Chase.

I loved this book. I don't like to start reading a series on the second book but I didn't have any trouble adjusting to the world of Lacy Marie Crocker, so I consider this a stand alone mystery. I was lucky enough to win an advance copy of this book and can't wait to go back and read the first book in the series. I didn't notice any gaps, but reading the first book always seems to make the story seem richer. This is just the kind of cozy I love to read. The murder happens quickly and the whole book is spent trying to catch the murderer and recover the missing cats. Cat Got Your Cash is also full of humor, I'm pretty sure my family thought I was crazy because I was sitting on the couch, completely ignoring them, and would occasionally laugh out loud. This is a quick and easy read, perfect for escaping whatever real life is throwing your way. It is full of twists and turns with plenty of humor.

One expectation I have when I pick up a cozy mystery is that I will not only be entertained, but I will escape to a place I've never been. This was a bit different for me, because I know New Orleans well. I'm somewhat mixed on the portrayal of New Orleans itself. A bit touristy for my taste, with heavy emphasis on beignets, but only Cafe du Monde? Please, go to Morning Call and get a much better cup of coffee. And yes, it annoys me to refer to "Royale" street--I think you mean Royal (no e at the end there) in the Quarter. Despite those rankles, this was a very enjoyable book with engaging characters. As a cat lover I love Penelope and her roomba-riding. The plot is good, with believable twists. I look forward to reading the first book in the series now that I've been introduced to the series.

I really enjoyed reading Cat Got Your Cash by Julie Chase. She does a lovely job describing her characters and locations through out the book, it helps me build the scene in my mind while I read. Not only that, but she brings New Orleans and it's various regions to life, either she visited and took extensive notes or researched the area thoroughly! I like her main characters, they all seem warm and relate-able as people. The main character, Lacy Crocker, is a person that I could easily get along with if she were real. Though she was born into a wealthy family, with all the opportunity in the world to live a luxurious life of leisure, she chose to follow her own dreams, working hard and become a pet fashion designer who is making the business work without family money. While trying to put her business in the local and perhaps national spotlight, she unwittingly stumbles upon a murder., and winds up the foster mother of 2 adorable and rich kittens. Despite the attractive local homicide detective's discontent (love interest Jack Oliver), she noses in on the investigation with the help of her handsome friend (other love interest Chase Hawthorne), getting her apartment broken into and getting her in heaps of trouble. There is mention of a previous Lacy Crocker misadventure (Cat Got Your Diamonds) that I will be reading next, but I don't think that it is a problem reading the second book without reading the first. I received this book from the publisher for review and this fact did not effect my opinion or review in any way.

Fun little cozy mystery. Lacy is a pet costume designer in fabulous New Orleans. (The Garden District to be exact) She discovers the body of a woman that she has always thought of as a hero. Fellow designer, Annie Lane, designs clothes for humans instead of pets. She has excellent chemistry with both of the men who seem to be vying for her attention. Jack is a handsome NOLA Homicide Detective (and heir to a fortune) and Chase is a childhood friend. Both are gorgeous and rich. How is a girl to decide? The mystery itself is well paced and I was truly surprised by the culprit. This is the second book in the series and I look forward to others.

Cat Got Your Cash is the 2nd book in Julie Chase’s Kitty Couture Mystery series and also the 1st book I’ve ready by Julie Chase. I really enjoyed getting to know the main character, Lacy Crocker – owner of Furry Godmother, a pet couture shop in New Orleans, Louisiana! Lacy has a bad habit of finding dead bodies – this time it is her fashion mentor, Annie Lane. She immediately gets herself involved in both the investigation and with caring for Annie’s two precious Siamese kittens, Cotton and Cashmere. As it turns out, the kittens are worth a lot of money from a trust Annie set up for their care and this money puts a target on Lacy’s back. Lacy has helpers in her investigation – her friend (and prospective love interest), Jack Oliver, and her old friends, Chase (another potential love interest who complicates matters) and Scarlet. Lacy has to deal with multiple break-ins at her home and attempts to cat-nap the kittens. All this while designing couture for chickens, llamas, and a variety of other animals. She sure has an interesting life! Eventually Lacy narrows down to the suspect pool to Annie’s ex-husband, her brother, her assistant, a former protegee, her attorney, and animal activists. It’s a wild ride through the story to the end where the killer is finally revealed. I found this to be a fast, enjoyable read and I look forward to going back to read the first book in the series, Cat Got Your Diamonds, and future books in the series!!

Cat Got Your Cash by Julie Chase is the second book in A Kitty Couture Mystery series. Lacy Crocker owns the Furry Godmother in New Orleans, Louisiana. She designs outfits for animals and creates organic treats. Lacy is picking out which of her pet couture creations she is going to show Annie Lane, fashion designer. Lacy is hoping to partner with Annie and have a pet companion line to Annie’s Mardi Gras designs. Lacy arrives at Annie’s home and receives no answer to the ringing of the bell. Lacy knocks on the door, and it swings open to a meowing Siamese kitten. Lacy follows the kitten into the kitchen where another kitten awaits along with Annie in a pool of blood. A startled Lacy drops her box of designer creations into the blood, and then picks up the murder weapon. Lacy contacts Detective Jack Oliver instead of 911 believing he will understand the situation (like her fingerprints on the murder weapon). When Lacy finds out that the kittens are being sent to animal shelter, she steps in and offers to take care of them. The next day Lacy returns home to pick up the kittens to find them gone. Someone broke in and stole them. Thankfully, the kittens are quickly retrieved, and Lacy relocates them to her parents’ home. Lacy discovers that Annie set up a trust for Cotton and Cashmere, the kittens. Dylan Latherope, Annie’s ex-husband, wants to regain custody of the kittens and stalks Lacy trying to obtain them. Lacy sets out to discover the identity of Annie’s killer while working on new costume designs and handling obligations she has incurred from her parents in return for cat sitting duties. She does manage to find time to flirt with Jack Oliver and Chase Hawthorne. But then the killer decides to take matters into his own hands, and Lacy finds herself and her beloved cat, Penelope in danger. Lacy will need her wits about her if she is going to make it out of this situation alive along with Penelope. Cat Got Your Cash is easy to read and has a fast pace. This book is definitely more cozy than mystery. I felt that more time is devoted to the Lacy’s zany antics than the murder mystery. There was one wacky incident after another in this book. It is a screwball type of humor that reminds me of I Love Lucy (I know I am dating myself with this reference—how about Young and Hungry for the millennials). I did find information repeated especially regarding Penelope wanting to ride the robotic vacuum cleaner at the store, Lacy’s mother with her phone calls and parties, Lacy’s attraction to the two men, and Imogene, her shop assistant, mystic abilities. I give Cat Got Your Cash 3 out of 5 stars. The mystery is not complicated and many readers will be able to identify the killer. Cat Got Your Cash is the second book in the series, but it can be read alone. Details from the Cat Got Your Diamonds (first book in series) and Lacy’s history are included in this novel. I was not a fan of this cozy mystery. It was just too inane and unrealistic for me. Lacy is a businesswoman (running her shop at a profit), but comes across as seriously lacking in the brains department. Then there is the love triangle (they certainly are popular in books this year) that dominates the story. If you enjoy outlandish, humorous type of novels (my mother loves them), then you should check out Cat Got Your Cash. Personally, I will be moving on from this series.

Cat Got Your Cash by Julie Chase is the second book in the Kitty Couture series and was a delightful cozy mystery to read. Although I hadn't read the first book in the series, I never felt lost or confuse. Ms. Chase provided enough backstory to each of the characters that I was comfortable with all of the relationships as the story progressed. Lacy Marie Crocker is a unique entreprenuer in New Orleans with her Furry Godmother pet boutique. I enjoyed her independence and her sass as she became involved in the murder of her fashion designer idol. Detective Jack Oliver is an intriguing character who I felt like Ms. Chase was just beginning to let readers see glimpses of the real man behind the badge. All of the characters are well developed and provide so much to the story as it twisted and turned through the streets of New Orleans. The pace of the story was fast and I really had trouble putting it down when there always seemed to be a new clue revealed. I will defintely have to read the first book in this series just so I can treat myself to another visit to New Orleans. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.

Julie Chase's Cat Got Your Cash How much is your cat worth? What would you think about a will leaving $10,000 per month per cat to whoever ends up caring for two Siamese cats names Cotton and Cashmere? Is this a motive for murder or was something else the incentive?? Lacy Crocker owns the Furry Godmother in New Orleans. She is a fashion designer for pets plus she sells treats for cats and dogs that she bakes herself. Lacy has a cat named Penelope that goes with her almost everywhere she goes in a carrier. Penelope loves to ride the Roomba when in Lacy's store. Lacy has an appointment to meet with one of her fashion designing heroes, Annie Lane. Upon arriving Lacy finds the front open but no one answers. Walking into the home, Lacy discovers Annie Lane dead. Lacy is given custody of Annie's Siamese cats, Cotton and Cashmere until other arrangements can be made. Thus the action begins. Someone breaks into Lacy's house and steals the cats. Thanks to trackers in the cats collars, they are located then taken to her parents. Of course, her parent's cat, Voodoo isn't too happy with these cat guests. Why and who wants the cats?? Or is this something more sinister behind what is happening???? A person in a papier-mâché mache cat head starts following Lacy. Then harassing telephone calls start. The author provides us with an array of suspects. Each one has their own flavor to add to the mix. There is undeniable chemistry between Lacy and her long time friend, Chase plus undeniable chemistry between Lacy and Detective Jack Oliver to make things interesting. Along with suspense, danger and mystery, the reader will enjoy the humor in the shenanigans throughout the story. Along with the cats, there are chickens and llamas to round out the story. This is book # 2 in the Kitty Couture Mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone. I volunteered to read the book. Thanks to the author and publisher via The Cozy Mystery Review Crew for the book. My opinion is my own.

I read the first couple of pages with great skepticism. A 'Kitty Couture' shop? Really? I was sure the next page would reveal a story about a crazy cat lady who treated animals like her children. I was wrong. It's a delightful cozy mystery involving a young and talented entrepreneur in New Orleans. By the end of the first chapter, I was hooked. Lacy rushes to meet her idol, Annie Lane for what could very well be the design collaboration of her career. Unfortunately, she arrives to find that her meeting has been permanently canceled. So has Annie Lane. The only living things in the house are two very noisy Siamese kittens. Rather than allow Animal Control to cart the darling kittens off, Lacy scoops them up and takes them home with her. That's when things REALLY get interesting. I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Lacy Marie Crocker’s crazy fashion designs for cats set in New Orleans; the land of crazy. “Furry Godmother” is doing so well that a favorite designer; Annie Lane, has asked to have a private meeting with Lacy to collaborate. Horror to Lacy when she finds her favorite designer dead when she arrives. She must find who has killed her idol, no matter the cost. I have not read the first in this series, but would say that this installment is an easy read, fast paced, and you will not want to put it down until the very end!

Once again I stand in doubt as to how to describe my thoughts/feelings about Cat Got Your Cash. So I ask you... Can you describe a Cozy Mystery as delightful? Maybe. Maybe not. But that is the word I would use to describe this fun and quirky story. I was totally delighted and intrigued. Admittedly I wasn't sure how I would feel. I mean seriously the story takes place in a specialty shop for cat clothes where your greeted by a cat riding a vacuum. Delightful Everything about the story was fun. I enjoyed meeting and getting to know the characters as they went through their days and tried to unravel the mystery of Who Dun It. And then there was the romantic triangle. Lacy has feelings for the handsome police detective who recently inherited millions or is it billions? Detective Oliver tends to hide his feelings leaving Lacy not certain where she stands with him. But he always seems to answer her calls. And comes running when Lacy is in trouble. But all is well as crime and finding dead bodies thrust them together. Then there is Chance Hawthrone and old flame that left town to be play volleyball. Hello? He was running away from a law career. Chance decides to return home and 'lawyer up' and chase Lacy. Maybe his name should have been Chase. He hides in the wings and jumps at chances to see Lacy. Just sayin' I'm rootin' for the detective. Cat Got Your Cash is a fast paced keep you on the edge of your seat as Lacy and friends try to discover the real mysteries without becoming the next victim. There is a long list of suspects . . . Ryan the drug dealing addict brother of the deceased, Josie the P.A. and Ryan's girlfriend, then there's a blogger who steals the orphaned kitties that Lacy is fostering. Not to mention the X-husband who will stop at nothing to get the kitties back. I enjoy a good Cozy Mystery. I love a great Cozy Mystery. Cat Got Your Cash definitely falls in the Great category. I received a complimentary copy of Cat Got Your Cash. This review will appear on retail sites where you can buy the book. This review will appear on Good Reads and My Reading Journeys.

4.5 out of 5 stars rounded up Cat Got Your Cash is the 2nd book in the Kitty Couture mystery series by Julie Chase and it was great! While it didn't have that extra pizzazz or emotional hook in it to push it up to a 5-star rating, it was still a delightful read! In this book, we get to know Lacy a little bit more and also our two heroes - Chase, the handsome lawyer and Lacy's schoolgirl crush and Jack, our dashing detective, who may just have the hots for Lacy. All of these characters are fun and exciting and well-developed. I'll be honest and admit I'm rooting for Jack, but should Lacy choose Chase, I wouldn't be overly disappointed. I just like Jack better! Lacy can be a little head strong and sometimes does things that makes me cringe (note to Lacy: When the hot detective tells you to stay put somewhere - STAY PUT!), but I still enjoy reading her stories. The setting finds us in New Orleans and while the descriptions of the settings aren't overly flowery, they are described well enough that I'm able to imagine most of the places in the book. I think Lacy's shop sounds charming and while I don't have any pets to dress up or pamper, I can easily imagine it being a place that would fit right in down in New Orleans, or even up here in Ann Arbor, near where I live! I know many pet owners who would love to shop somewhere that made organic treats for their pets! The plot line in this book moved along at a pretty good pace. There was a small section in the middle where I felt it dragged a bit, but it quickly picked back up and was steady throughout the rest of the book. I had no idea who the villain was before Lacy figured it out so that was fun! I just couldn't figure out who would want the victim dead. While it turned out that she wasn't the great person that Lacy always idolized, it still was hard to imagine someone killing her. Once the villain was revealed and it was explained, it was easy to see. I love when mysteries surprise me with the villain, so that was a plus in my eyes! All in all it was a delightful read. While the story can definitely stand on its own, this is a series and you'll understand the personal relationships and interactions better if you read the first book, Cat Got Your Diamonds, before you read this one! Get out there and buy both books or borrow them from your local library today! [I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review. All opinions and conclusions expressed are my own.]

Filled with memorable characters, the Kitty Couture Mystery series is a fun, feel good escape. CAT GOT YOUR CASH by Julie Chase The Second Kitty Couture Mystery Lacie Crocker, who has declined financial assistance from her family, is making a go of it at her Furry Godmother shop, but barely. She now has a chance get her big break by partnering her pet couture with the famous designer Annie Lane. Yet instead of discovering a new opportunity, Lacie finds Annie's dead body. Unwilling to let Annie's two Siamese kittens be taken to the pound, she assumes responsibility for them until Annie's will is probated. That decision puts her in the cross hairs of angry animal activists, a mad ex-husband, and a mysterious stalker. But nothing can stop this self admittedly nosy designer from trying to figure out the truth and help solve the murder. Filled with memorable characters, the Kitty Couture Mystery series is a fun, feel good escape. The ongoing battle between the Jazzy Chicks and the Llama Mamas showcase part of the personality that is the New Orleans Garden District. Steeped in tradition and money, its citizens generally try to do good and make the world a better place. Detective Jack Oliver, Chase Hawthorne, and newcomer Henri LaSalle, provide enough testosterone to ignite some swoonworthy moments while Imogene gives a healthy dose of comfort and realism, with a dash of the unknown. Lacie Crocker is an endearing protagonist, even though she made me sigh at her ignorance of proper cat introductions and makes me want to smack her to realize Jack's feelings toward her! But Lacie is real. Trying to make it on her own, yet knowing when she needs to call for help. Admitting her faults, yet accepting them and trying to do better, for herself, her friends and family, and the community itself. CAT GOT YOUR CASH is an engaging mystery with a heart stopping climactic scene that will leave you breathless. I thoroughly enjoyed my second trip to New Orleans via the Furry Godmother and eagerly await my next visit. Pet recipes included. FTC Disclosure – The publisher sent me a digital ARC provided through NetGalley, in the hopes I would review it.

Dollycas’s Thoughts Isn’t the cover of this book just priceless. I couldn’t wait to start reading to find out how those Siamese kitties fit into the story. Their names are Cotton and Cashmere and it turns out they belong to fashion designer, Annie Lane. Sadly our protagonist Lacy Marie Crocker finds her dead when she shows up for a meeting. Lacy had been looking forward to working with her favorite designer on a companion line of pet couture creations. Now she has been asked to care for her cats and that seems to put her in danger. Those cute little cats come with a huge trust fund so could Annie have been killed just so the killer could get their hands on them and the CASH. Would they kill again to get what they want. NOLA PD homicide detective Jack Oliver is on the case but Lacy pushes herself right into his investigation. Lacy is a girl after my own heart. Her creativity shines in the hatS, scarves, capes and more that she makes for cats, dogs, and even llamas. Her mother is all about her finding a good husband and thinks attorney Chase Hawthorne would be the perfect match. But I am on team Jack, the man so clearly in love with her even though she just doesn’t see it. Her dad is more of a go with the flow guy. He is always there for his daughter. Their relationship is strong, close, and heartwarming. She also has a fur baby named Penelope. This cat will give you more than one laugh out loud moment. The author gives us several suspects from the designer’s ex-husband to her assistant, another designer, and even some bloggers. They are all viable suspects so it was fun parrying them down. The ending took me totally by surprise. What a fabulous twist! Julie Chase is an awesome storyteller. These characters really pop and the mystery pulls you right in. The cover grabbed my attention and the story held it from start to finish. Another cat-ivating cozy to add to your lists!

This was a fun addition to one of my new favorite series. I love the whole kitty couture thing going on in this book. Who would not love to have a job designing clothes for pets. Leaving her money to her cats is something that I have heard of people that have done this. You have to really love your animal to do this. I felt so bad for Cotton and Cashmere, first they lost their human to murder then they get stolen from Lacy who is trying to help them. I love that all the characters in this book are cat lovers. There is even a little romance thrown in with this mystery. This author has a way of writing that makes the book a quick and fun read. I loved the setting of this book as well. As I was reading this book I thought I had it figured out but I had to really follow the clues closely. It took me until the end to figure it all out. I am looking forward to the next book in this fun series.

Cat Got Your Cash is the second book in Julie Chase's Kitty Couture Mystery series and it was such a fun read. First off you have Lacy who owns a pet fashion and treats shop on a busy fun street in New Orleans. She brings her cat Penelope to work every day so that she can ride the robot vacuum cleaner. Long time employee to the family, Imogene, has a quirky hobby of freeing spirits and getting rid of bad mojo. Then you have the hunky police detective, Jack, her best friend, Scarlet, and her loving but annoying mother. And the story !!! Lacy has a meeting with fashion designer, Anne Lane, who she admires. She is hoping that they can work together on a line of clothes. Unfortunately when she gets to Lane's house, she finds her dead !! Lacy then finds herself convincing Lane's attorney to allow her to care for her two Siamese kittens, Cashmere and Cotton. Lacy has no idea how special these kittens are and the length that someone would go to get them. When her house is broken into she has to find some where safe for Cashmere and Cotton and solve Anne's murder. The suspect list is long but with the "help" from her friend the detective she knows that she can crack the case. But can she solve it before someone else dies ? I LOVE books like this. The storyline is so unique and fun !!! Even though there is a murder and a case needs to be solved, Chase has a special way of gliding the reader through the story. The only bad thing that I can say is I wish I had read the first book in this series. Oh don't get me wrong... I will read it as well as any more Chase writes. There is too much to like to not be a devoted fan !!!

Cat Got Your Cash (Kitty Couture Mystery #2) by Julie Chase is a sweet and fun cozy mystery. Lacy Marie Crocker designs clothes for pets. She is trying to make a go of it without help from the deep pockets of her parents. She is thrilled to have gotten an appointment with hometown celebrity designer Annie Lane about possibly creating a companion line for her designs. Kind of like mommy/doggy outfits. Too bad that when she shows up for her appointment she finds Annie dead. Now the killer seems to be after her. Good thing she has hunky homicide detective Jack Oliver and the also hunky Chase Hawthorne looking after her. Food, fun, fashion and frolicking Cat Got Your Cash is a delightful read.
