Celia Cruz was a Latin music icon. She got the fame, the fortune, and the romance that she always wanted- but because she had to leave her hometown of Havana for Hollywood, she had a hole in her heart that was never filled. This is a biography book for children in grades 2-4. The author thoroughly describes the life of this queen of salsa, but simple enough for children to understand. It introduces a few simple Spanish words and there is a glossary in the back of the book. This book could be used when teaching about biographies and because it evokes drive and shows that dreams can come true if you only try. There is a great author's note at the back of the book offering more of a detailed background of Celia Cruz to explain to students.
A biography of Celia Cruz an icon of Latin music. This book shows the journey she took to follow her dreams, even if it did mean leaving her hometown. While in hollywood she meet the love of her life, but he only had a 1/3 of her heart. This is a great picture book biography that will keep children interested with its simply text and vivid illustrations. This would be a great book to read in history class when learning of people who have made an impact.
I think that this is a great biography picture book. This is a story about Celia Cruz, a famous singer, who is known as the Queen of Salsa. The book tells about her rise to fame and her life story. I think this would be great to incorporate with a study of Cuba, and a great way to introduce salsa music. Students would listen to Celia's music. There is extra information in the back that would be great to introduce students too.
