CHANTS OF A GHOST Pete Smith was once a multi-tasked artist and songwriter, unintentionally projected to "local Legend" status literally, [marked by such meetings with figures as folk legend Pete Seeger {RIP} through his mutual membership in People's Music Network and Senator Bernie Sanders; due to a single supportive fundraising club-performance for [Bernie's then mayoral re-election; still today passing one another on the street; "Hi there Pete! How's it going?!"] [Perhaps a sign dissuading any suspect notion of lofty claims! With still more evidence shared 'within'...] Until, many years passed, when a most unfortunate series of disastrous, scandalous social episodes culminate in a dramatic 'Fall From Grace"! All of this fomented by his former, fragile, troubling' history, eventually diagnosed as mental illness; further discovering the severe damage to others while on a lengthy (often homeless) journey, beginning at 17 years of age; while a search for relief through artistic expression - living on the streets of New York City - a still further desperate search to understand (LOVE and ART!) Now at 80 years of age, Smith shares his memoir, in stream-of-conscious writing mostly in his unique vernacular, seeking a redemptive forgiveness as the ending of his life closes in.
