3.5 stars Chasing Eva is this author’s debut novel - a romantic suspense and somewhat an office romance. This book has likable characters, a big hotness factor, suspense, and a bit of a mystery. Eva, a chef by training, recently took over her father’s business to fulfill his dying wish and is trying to acclimate to the corporate world. It is baptism by fire for her as S.F. Designs’ biggest client, Stanford Enterprises, is terminating their contract. I love how Eva immediately steps up to the plate. She doesn’t cower when faced with her career change or when she immediately needs to jump in and try to salvage things. She is a strong character who is also vulnerable when it comes to love. Clive has taken over the family business, Stanford Enterprises. He is hot, ex-military and ex-FBI, which gives him a unique skill set when he learns through his old FBI buddies that Eva’s company may have an informant committing corporate fraud. I love how he exudes confidence - both in his business dealings and with Eva - and how protective he is. There is instant attraction and there are some steamy scenes with the two of them. It isn’t exactly an insta-love between them, but I do feel like it was close for Clive. I felt like his strong feelings for Eva happened rather quickly while Eva’s seemed to progress in a more realistic manner. Yes, she was Clive’s first kiss from when they were teens 15 years ago, but Eva didn’t even remember it at first and he had only met her at 2 family parties. So I had trouble understanding why he was so into her so quickly based off of their rather brief interactions 15 years ago. Both Eva and Clive are both strong, likable characters. We learn a bit about their backgrounds and how that has shaped who they are today and their approach to relationships. I also liked the secondary characters of Izzy, Allie, Trevor, and Carter. Izzy and Allie are the type of friends I would love to have in my inner circle and I really hope to learn more about them in the next two books. Chasing Eva started off a little slow for me for the first quarter of the book, but then it quickly picked up and moved at a good pace. The author kept me engaged in building up the suspense on who could the informant be. For me, the ending felt abrupt. The story was sort of going along and then, it just ended. Chasing Eva doesn’t exactly end in a cliffhanger, but as this is book 1 in a trilogy there are a lot of loose ends - such as who is out to get Eva and her company? Nonetheless, I am looking forward to diving into the next book. (Note: book 2 Loving Eva is out and the conclusion, Killing Eva releases on October 30, 2018). I received this book from the author and I voluntarily leave this review. Addendum: I recently finished book 2 and the author goes more into depth about Clive's first meeting with Eva. It makes more sense as to why he seems to have that near insta-love to Eva when they meet 15 years later.

Eva Avery is now the owner of S&F Interior designs. After her father's passing, she was left to take over his company. Not what she had in mind for her life, but how could she refuse her father. Eva has just started giving dating a chance again. After a her boyfriend was caught in the act over a year ago, Eva had sworn off men. But she has decided to start dating again. She is searching for Mr. Right. Clive Stanford is the new owner of Stanford Enterprises. Taking over the company was not in his plan, but his brother asked him to so he could pursue his wine business. How could he say no. Clive is a playboy who is not interested in settling down. One day he has a sense of déjà vu when he runs into a beautiful woman in the elevator of his building. So he sets out to uncover her identity. When Clive discovers that Eva is the one that got away, he begins his quest to win her heart. But then he discovers that someone is out to tear down Eva's company. He vows to protect her at all costs. But what happens when Eva finds out the secrets he has kept? I am totally addicted to this series. I read this book in one day and started on book 2, Loving Eva. This first book gives us the background and begins the relationship of Clive and Eva. But the odds are definitely against them. I love Clive and Eva. These two characters have such a deep chemistry. It is like they are part of one another. They complete each other. Not to mention that the sex they have is steamy hot off the charts. Holy hell!!! That Clive is one hot sexy alpha male. Mmmm Mmmm! Eva is such a strong independent person. She has a natural beauty about her and she is very caring, yet very vulnerable and insecure. Which you will notice a lot in book 2. Together their love will burn up the pages of this book. This story has got a great who done it plot, that you will keep guessing about the whole book. Guess what! I am still trying to figure it out and I am almost done with book 2. Camellia Hart is a genius at keeping her readers hooked. The story flows so smoothly and has plenty of twists and steamy scenes to keep things interesting. I can tell you that you will not get bored. You will soak up every word written and still want more. Not only is this book intense and thrilling, it has amazing and intriguing characters. I got to stop writing or I might run book 2 into this review and give away too many secrets. ;) So grab your copy of Chasing Eva today. You will be glad you did. *ARC provided by Camellia Hart

CEO Eva Avery can't afford to keep losing clients from her late father's interior design firm and goes to Stanton Enterprises to plead her case. When the handsome Clive walks into the meeting and asks Eva to leave with him to discuss the matter further, she has no choice but to comply. Stanton Enterprises CEO and playboy Clive Stanton has never forgotten the beautiful Eva, who he met as a teen. When Clive finds out a rogue informant wants to hurt Eva and her company, his protective instincts kick into high gear and he vows to himself that he will fix everything for her. Eva is attracted to Clive but thinks that he's only interested in a one night stand with her. Clive won't settle down until the right woman comes along and wants Eva to give him a try. Will Clive be able to protect Eva and convince her that he's the one for her? Chasing Eva is a fun, intriguing and steamy page turner. I can't wait to read Loving Eva, Book 2 of the In Light of Shadows Series.

I wanted to shake off the hallucinogens from the other day's read and immerse myself in what I call my "comfort blanket." I love YA anything and Sci-fi, and fantasy, and epic adventures but my go-to comfort read is romance. In any genre, told by different points of views, taken from history, star-crossed, friends to lovers, realistic or happily-ever-afters; it is the deliciousness of how two people meet, and then fall in love that gives my world a breath of fresh air. Of course, this "fresh air" was pretty heated. This is not a clean reads by ANY means. There was definitely a few erotic scenes. This story moved at the right amount of speed for me. I finished Clive and Eva's story in a matter of hours and I've already downloaded the next book to their "continuing saga." Clive Stanton is all male, handsome, rich and has a sweet spot for the ex-chef turned CEO, Eva Avery. With the wealthy and powerful, it seems you also get a touch of scandal, a mystery surrounding a death, car chases, and a lots of wine and ice cream. Camellia Hart took us on this ride that very few average income holders get to experience, including the glitz and glam of the MET Gala. I loved the quick and flirtatious banter between Clive and Eva. And finally! A woman who can go toe to toe with a man is a welcome to the "damsel in distress, lip biting two dimensional characters" that's been a fixture for years. Yes, there is danger lurking around for Eva, but she's no damsel needing a prince to rescue her. If anything, she values facts and freedom, and tries to fight her own battles. We don't know what or who she's up against in this book, but it was fun to read about this little love story wrapped within this mystery..... and how sweet and sexy it was for the Prince that was Chasing Eva. I can't wait to read the next installment! ***I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I am not required to write a positive one. These thoughts and opinions are my own.***

When I was contacted by the author and asked to read her book, I thought here was just another romance story, yeah they are all running the same. Well let me tell you this one is different. Yes it has the boy finds girl from his past, boy is a playboy, girl has been cheated on and is looking for Mr. Right. But this story is so much more. Eva Avery finds herself on her way to work like any other morning, except this morning she comes face to face with the one and only Clive Stanton, playboy and owner of Stanton Enterprises and she can't stop staring. Seven months out of a bad relationship, Eva only wants to find Mr. Right, not Mr. Right Now. Clive Stanton is tired of the public perception of him, he is not the playboy the media makes him out to be. But with a different woman every month it seems true. But he just hasn't found "the one". When the elevator doors open and there are three women waiting to get one, he looks at all three. One is holding a tabloid, with him on the cover of course, the other he hardly notices, but the third seems very familiar, he knows her from somewhere in his past but can't put his finger on it. When Clive realizes who Eva is, he can't wait to tell her and see where things will lead. But there is someone lurking to bring down Eva or her father's company. Clive and his FBI friends will try to keep her safe. Will Eva give a relationship with Clive a change or will she let the tabloids ruin any chance she might have with him? Can Clive make Eva see that he is not what the papers show? What will happen when she learns the secrets Clive is hiding from her? I never thought I would love this story so much but I couldn't put it down. And I can't wait for more to find out what happens next for Eva and Clive. **Copy provided by the author in exchange for my honest review**

3 Stars After her father's death, Eva now has become the current CEO of S.F. Designs. Clive Stanton of Stanton Enterprises is a past acquaintance and present client of S.F. Designs that appears to be wanting to terminate their contract along with a few other clients. Instead, after seeing Eva, Clive wants to reacquaint himself with her and, initially, prolongs their business contract. Eva's past makes her tread carefully, but, ultimately, she starts to see Clive as "the one." An informant looking to sabotage Eva's business and Clive's ever present tabloid status tries to throw every wrench it can into the impending romance. Be forewarned that this is book 1 of (what I believe) is a 3-book series. Most often, I don't have a problem with cliff-hangers or continuations, but I like to know in advance. If I'm going to read a series like this one, I prefer that all books are already released or soon-to-be before I start reading. Unfortunately, I did not know this going in. This does effect my rating, but not drastically. This is due to the 227 page length of Chasing Eva. For me, 227 pages constitutes a novella. If the length of the next two books are similar, then why not release it as one book or, at the very least, as a duology? Overall, I didn't love this book, but I also didn't hate it. It was just a middle-of-the-road kind of read and, unfortunately, doesn't have me chomping-at-the-bit to read the next book. This lightly suspenseful book also has a mystery weaved into the story that I'm sure will not be answered until the third book. That might be the only reason I continue the series. Yet, the more time that passes between releases, quenches that desire to know. I'm more of a romance junkie and I wasn't blown away by the connection between Clive and Eva. The characters were better than 2-D caricatures, but not quite developed enough to grab me and keep me invested. Since this is a debut author, it's a great start and I can see the improvement potential. It's also a lovely book cover. More relationship substance and a complete story (or even a duology) would have improved my rating. For me, in its current form, it is only a neutral 3 star read. I received an e-copy of this book from Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Reviewed by Rosie Malezer for Readers' Favorite Chasing Eva is the first book of the In Light of Shadows series by Camellia Hart. After ogling over Clive Stanton’s picture on the cover of that morning’s tabloid magazine, Eva, Izzie and Ali make their way to the office. When the elevator doors open, Clive Stanton is inside and glances at each of them until his gaze lights on Eva. He remembers her face from long ago, before she disappeared from his life. It was with Eva that he shared his very first kiss. Eva Avery is now all grown up and in charge of her deceased father’s successful company, S.F. Designs, of which Stanton Industries is their biggest client. However, many clients worry that new leadership after Eva’s father’s death is possibly the beginning of the end, and when she receives a letter advising that Stanton Industries wishes to cease all dealings with S.F. Designs immediately, Eva knows that her company will not survive the blow. Clive gives Eva more time to allow S.F. Designs to flourish once more, while wooing her and trying to rekindle the past. But all Eva knows of Clive is what the tabloids have printed about him, not realizing that tabloids will make up their own stories if they cannot get a scoop. With both Clive and Eva having had so much bad luck in dating, they now have to decide whether a romantic relationship with each other would flourish or be a disaster. Not since Ednah Walters’ Runes series have I found myself so engrossed in any book. Camellia Hart strays from the normal chase in romance and presents an incredible chemistry that is unsurpassed. Two people who have had so much pain in their lives, after being torn apart as children before finding each other again many years later as adversaries in business, is a delicious mix which is absolutely intoxicating from start to finish. Should this book ever be published in print, I will most definitely be adding it to my home library. Chasing Eva has the perfect balance of love, loss, triumph and defeat, leading to the most feel-good adventure in any romance. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy the thrill of a well-written novel which completely transports them into the world of two people who will do whatever it takes to get their happy ending.

Favorite Quote: “We know you’re looking for your Mr. Right, but while you’re at it, why not also have some fun with this Mr. Slightly Wrong?” My Review: He had never forgotten her as she was his first kiss, but now he was a rich playboy often featured on tabloid covers, not someone she would consider as her type. Chasing Eva is a sweet and sexy love story with humor, steam, and broken-hearted ice cream binges among friends. It was a quick, amusing, intriguing, and entertaining read.

Eva, a brilliant young woman, wants to keep Clive, a powerful and hot man, to stay as a client for her company. Not really uncommun but a good start for a story. And then Camellia Hart had the good idea to add corporate spying. Clever ! Clive is the perfect alpha hero, bossy, jealous, protective... and physically breathtaking. The chemistry between Clive and Eva is really easy to feel, well described. But, yes there is a "but", there are a little too much things in common with the "50 shades trilogy", too much scenes reminding me Christian with Ana. No spoiler here, i won't tell more. I'd advice this book without hesitation though, and i sure can't wait to know who's plotting against Eva! And i sure can't wait to spend time with Clive again too :-D

***ARC kindly provided by author, in exchange for an honest review*** 3.5 / 4 STARS ********* BOOK DETAILS: Chasing Eva by Camellia Hart Publication date: April 5th 2016 Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance Blurb: Author Camellia Hart’s debut contemporary romance novel about a man and a woman whose lives are about to get sizzling hot… After living through her share of disloyal relationships, Evangeline Avery will be damned if she lets another man cheat her. A beautiful and confident woman, Eva is the owner of an interior design firm at the brink of collapse. She swears to bring her company back to its past glory, even if it involves sweet talking the one man who caused this turmoil in the first place – Clive Stanton. Notorious playboy Clive Stanton is a powerful businessman and a formidable enemy of many. He doesn’t do love, or at least not until he meets her again, fifteen years after he saw her last. Eva, his crush from teenage years, the one that got away, is back in his world and he is determined to do anything to make her his. Will passion and lust bring them together or conflict and the unforgettable scars from their pasts forever tear them apart? ******* So Chasing Eva is the first book of In Light of Shadows Series… Well I can say it was a very pleasant reading: we’ve got Eva and Clive, both scarred but sooooo romantic. They run into each other 15 years after, because Destiny has it, it brings back together the souls that are meant to be together  We have suspense, FBI stuff and hotties, girlfriends to support Eva when she needs them, we’ve got angst, chasing games, and WHAT ABOUT THE HOTTTTTTTTTTT STEAMY STUFF? I wonder what C. Hart has in store for this couple in the two next books, I guess things are about to get serious, involving more action and suspense, and I hope Eva and Clide will find their way to each other and get their HEA, even if I feel there will be a lot of big rocks in the way… Great story!

In Chasing Eva, Evangeline Avery, Eva in short, refuses to let another man cheat on her. She’s beautiful, confident, and owns an interior design firm on the brink of collapsing. She’s determined to bring her company back ot its past glory though, even if that means she has to sweet talk Clive Stanton. Clive is a notorious playboy, a powerful businessman, and he doesn’t do love. At least not until he meets Eva again, his teenage crush, and the one who got away. But when they meet again, emotions run high, and Clive realizes he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make her his. Eva and Clive had an undeniable chemistry between them, and they were both very well written characters. They had a lot of personality, especially Eva, and were a prime example of opposites attract. The romance was my favorite part of the book. Recommended to anyone who enjoys a good contemporary romance, and bonus points for the author to get her characterization right and craft believable characters. Chasing Eva, (In Light of Shadows 1),  Camellia Hart Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews Genre:  Romance Debut book by Camellia, and its very well written. I didn’t realise it was a trilogy and I’m a bit concerned over the title of the last book Killing Eva – sounds ominous, I hope its not :-) Its a story I enjoyed but I wasn’t stuck to the page, unable to let go. Its easy to pick up again though and continue. It does feel a little slow at times, but then making a story last over three books inevitably tends to have that effect for me.   I loved Eva, loved her confidence and her good friends. Every girl needs those and they were great characters in themselves. I also loved/hated the swimsuit model/ex fling of Clive's – Sylvia? I think that was here name – I love the manipulative, jealous b itch type in a story!   What didn’t work so well for me: Clive and Eva, I loved them, and the way Clive has been searching for her in a way for such a long time. I just wasn't convinced by their romance though, it didn’t feel real to me. I needed a bit more build up before they got together, that slow burn of can’t stop thinking about each other, the need to touch, kiss and more that comes over time as they get to know and respect each other. They certainly had lust and those scenes were good and fitted the storyline, but I just wasn't feeling anything more....Also could Eva really pick up and run a top company so quickly and so well when its not what she chose as her career?   Then there’s the “what's going on” suspense angle, and I just didn’t really understand it – why would the FBI get involved, and would they really have agents that inept? Again though suspense is hard to get right, especially in a debut book, and though this was a good line, it just felt a bit confusing to me. I wasn’t really sure why someone would do what they did, the motives – though I suspect one person and the motive is there, it just doesn't quiiite add up yet for me. Maybe it’ll come together more in the later books – that's happened to me before, when I need the whole story to understand and make sense of what’s happening. Stars: Four, a good start, but a little slow and confusing at times ARC supplied by author

This is the first book I've ever read by Camellia Hart, and I can tell you I was not disappointed one bit. This book had you sucked in from the first page all the way to the last. Every minute I had that I wasn't busy with kids or working I was reading this book. I love how this book goes from character to character showing their point of view and how they feel. Eva took over her fathers company over after he passed away, she had not to long ago caught her now ex boyfriend cheating on her and never thought she would find Mr. Right anytime soon. It all changed when she saw him in the elevator. Clive works at his fathers company. He's handsome and charming as could be. He has been with super models the prettiest of the prettiest, but never has actually been in a relationship. He never found anyone that was so special to call his girlfriend. Until she is standing in front of him about to get in the same elevator with him. From that point on their lives change. Love at first sight, but its all too good to be true..... or is it? This book is highly recommended by me. Amazing job to Camellia Hart, your details and the story telling is perfect together. The story is easy to follow and you never get lost or have to ask your self "what is going on?". From the first page all the way to the last, this book will have you needing and wanting to know what is going to happen. I can't wait to read the next book in this series and I'm very excited to see what's going to happen in the next with Eva and Clive's relationship. Reviewed for Camellia Hart.

I was given this book for a honest review and I LOVED IT!!!! This book had it all.....suspense, romance, a little sexiness (is this even a word?) Eva Avery is a chef who takes over her fathers interior design business when he passes away. She takes the business and does the best she can but someone is trying t sabbath get her efforts. In walks Clive Stanton, tall dark and handsome. Clive owns the building where Eva's company office is located and Clive's company is also one of her clients. Clive is just dreamy....need more of him!! He is a perfect gentleman and steps up to help Eva try to find who is messing which her business. Did I already tell you I LOVE THIS BOOK?? Can't wait for the second book to come out cause I really need more Clive.....he is just a doll. Also....FYI Clive and Eva met years ago when they were just little kids and Clive had a crush on her since then and finally gets to see her again after all these years. LOVE,!! Suspenseful, sexy, and Hot! Eva has recently taken over her father's company after his passing. She's smart, gorgeous, and determined to get the company back to it's former success. She has some obstacles to achieve to get there including dealing with playboy Clive Stanton. Having been burned before, she knows not to get too close. Clive Stanton is lethally sexy, a successful businessman, ex special forces and ex FBI. No wonder he's a playboy with his gorgeous good looks and stature. However, one look at Eva and the memories of her getting away years ago, has him determined to make her his. The chemistry between them is palpable and Eva can only hold out for so long with Clive's charms. It's a whirlwind for them and with certain circumstances arising, will they be able to hold onto each other long enough to make it through?

I read this book today in about 4 hours because once I got started I just couldn't stop! It was a nice, light read and I really enjoyed it. The writer did a wonderful job with the storyline and really felt in touch with the characters. It's your typical romance story, girl meets guy, girl falls in love with guy, and there's drama, mystery, etc. Yes, this is a romance novel and there were a few hot and steamy sexual encounters between the main characters, but it definitely wasn't over the top or on every other page of the book like some of the other romance novels that I have read. When you are as drawn to somebody as Eva and Clive are in this book, it is to be expected that they constantly crave the other. I know this is the first book in the series, so I am eagerly anticipating the second book! I can't wait to see what happens with Eva and Clive. Do they stay together until the end... or do they break up? What happens? I need to know!
