Overview

Black Fox is a Cherokee Lighthorseman, a lawman who believes that the White man's law is the only way his people can hold control of the Nation. He is on the hunt for The Cat, an outlaw who has been stealing goods to deliver to poor families and allegedly killed a US Marshall in the process. After a robbery and subsequent shoot out in town, Black Fox spots a young boy running from the scene and follows him, sure he is The Cat. But to his surprise, the boy turns out to be a girl!

Cathleen O'Sullivan has no need for the law, especially when they refused to prosecute the man who destroyed her family. Now disguised as The Cat, she steals goods from her enemy to help the poor, and if it brings havoc to him and his bootlegging partners, then all the better. Then during a shootout, she is wounded, and captured by Black Fox. This ruggedly handsome lawman is not at all what she expected, especially when he cares for her wounds and protects her from her enemies instead of hauling her off to jail. She insists she's being framed for murder, and though Black Fox knows he should not be seduced by this spunky slip of a girl who has no respect for the law, he's torn between loving her and arresting her.

Meet the Author

Genell Dellin lives with her husband in Oklahoma. Since their son has grown up and gone away to be a QuarterHorse trainer, they share their place with only four-footed family members. The bossy cat named Smokey keeps Genell company while she writes and sometimes offers her advice.

Cherokee Warriors is Genell's second Cherokee series for Avon Books inspired by family stories about her great-grandmother, who was born on the way to Indian Territory from Georgia.

The Captive is the third book of this new series, following The Loner and The Lover.

In 1877 in the Cherokee Nation West, Lighthorseman Black Fox Vann trails Cat, a Robin Hood like robber turned killer when he murdered Deputy US Marshal Turner. At a general store, Black Fox sees Cat dodging bullets running towards his horse. Black Fox follows only to find an unconscious Cat shot in the shoulder. He strips him only to shockingly see breasts............................ Cat hears him mumbling about taking a female to Judge Parker to hang for murder, but cannot understand why he says that until he accuses her of killing Turner. She denies killing anyone yet, but plans to kill the general store owner Tassel for killing her stepfather and mother, and trying to rape her. He knows she is too hurt to travel to Ft. Smith for her trial, so he takes her to his ranch to heal. Black Fox wants to believe Cat's cries of innocence as he is falling in love with her, but his credo is the law is the law............................... Genell Dellin demonstrates why she is the recipient of the RT Career Achievement Award with this strong western romance. Though there is plenty of action, the key to the tale is the relationship between the two characters who are attracted to one another from the start, but he adamantly believe in upholding the law while she feels the law failed her. The immovable law and the untouchable outlaw make for great fun for readers......................... Harriet Klausner

Slow in parts, and I wish there was an Epilogue because I felt the ending was rushed. This is supposed to be a 3 book series, with the Loner next and then The Captive, but Barnes and Noble doesn't The Captive, so be for warned, the series is incomplete. This is a sweet story though, not graphic in the sex area. (Ljb)
