Psychology professor Sian Beilock answers many compelling questions, among them: Why do people choke, and what can you do to avoid choking under pressure? Beilock points out steps you can follow to hold up better in a pinch. Some are small and easy, others more complex and systemic. Though the author makes the same points - or the same sort of points, in different ways - her ideas apply to many fields. getAbstract recommends her book to athletes, salespeople, leaders, speakers, teachers and anyone who wants to perform well in the clutch.

In the nook version, every time the author wanted to use the word "math" it was written as "maths". Because the author uses math examples frequently, and this error shows up every time, it greatly diminishes the reading experience. I am surprised that this error has made it to the published version. I am struggling to get through the book, despite the interesting content.

The book takes a while to get going. The first half is too academic and technical for the average reader. But the second part in really interesting and counter intuitive on how we think is the secret(s) to performing under pressure. The author is very credible from her own life experiences as an athlete and now university professor and researcher. The book isn't just about choking in sports. It also delves into other areas as well.
