Made from artificial materials, Soal's "social abstractions" evoke natural phenomena through processes of aggregation, combination and erosion

Through his use of discarded ephemera such as toothpicks and bottle caps, along with concrete, rebar, sandpaper and other industrial materials, South African artist Chris Soal (born 1994) interrogates views of nature and culture as a binary concept while challenging societal preconceptions of value and hierarchy.
