After several years in the same location, Krista Galloway decided it was time to move somewhere new and start over with her daughter, Emily. She took a new job as the city manager of Winter Hill, Washington, and starts shortly before the holiday season. She isn't on the job very long before she struggles as she makes some startling discoveries that leave her feeling unwelcome in this small tight-knit community, which is so different from their last home in Phoenix, Arizona. Emily went in to the move hoping for new friends and a chance to see some snow. Will the two find what they are looking for? You'll have to read Christmas In Winter Hill by Melody Carlson to find out. I wouldn't be surprised to see Christmas In Winter Hill made in to a Hallmark movie. It is a sweet, touching holiday story. It is easy to picture both the decorated small town and the various townspeople, as well as follow the story that you know will end on a happy note. I thought Carlson did a great job with this one and she was pulling at my heartstrings through the book. I also liked how the romance was progressing but not an overwhelming part of the book. Honestly, some days I just need a happy novella and a hot cup of tea when I start to feel grinchy and need a dash of good cheer. If that is what you need too, I highly recommend Carlson's new Christmas novella, Christmas In Winter Hill. I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. I was not required to write a review. All opinions are my own.

This delightful Christmas novella totally enchanted me! I love Melody Carlson’s books because they are all quick and fast-paced reads. This little book was a real joy to read and to prepare one’s heart for the holiday season. Krista Galloway, the main character, doesn’t really like Christmas at all because she spent her childhood in foster homes and has no good memories of the holiday. She does want to create good memories for her daughter Emily, though. The two have just moved to the little town of Winter Hill as Krista has accepted the job of city manager there. Unbeknownst to her, Krista has also accepted the job of managing the town’s annual festival called Christmasville. It will take a local man and his daughter to convince Krista that there can be good in life, and especially at Christmastime. Fans of Carlson and Debbie Macomber will enjoy this book because it touches all of the right chords to make your heartstrings hum. If you’re a huge fan of sweet and predictable Hallmark type movies/stories then you’re going to love this book because it’s so steeped in all things Christmas you’re guaranteed a mouth full of cavities after the happily ever after. This book is well written for maximum holiday cheer but the author fails to provide an emotional connection to the characters, the storyline isn’t in the least bit original and the climax of the story was sadly lacking and totally predictable. I really do love Christmas stories but this fairytale was way too jolly, unoriginal and repetitive for me. I read a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

What an absolutely delightful book! I was so ready to start reading about Christmas and cooler weather and there's nothing better than a book by Melody Carlson because her books never disappoint! Krista and her daughter, Emily, are moving from the city they have always lived in - Phoenix where it's always warm - to a small, quaint town called Winter Hill in Washington, where the weather is a lot colder. It's a huge change for Krista but she has accepted the position of town manager so it's definitely a step up for her career. However, she made the decision in haste and now she's wondering if she did the right thing. Winter Hill is all about Christmasvillle and Krista didn't know this. She has never been a fan of Christmas so this is a huge adjustment for her. There are some other disappointing aspects to her move as well, but she tries to have a good attitude throughout it all. I really loved the characters in this book - even the ones that aren't very nice. As always, Melody writes her characters in a well rounded way and I felt like I really knew these people and cared about them. I loved the character of Pauline and her son, Conner. I loved how they embraced Krista and Emily and both had such a wonderful outlook on life. Their faith was so realistic, too, and I loved how they showed care for others. This book was wonderful in every way! I enjoyed each and every moment I got to spend in Winter Hill and it was a great first Christmas book for the 2019 season. I really loved it and give it 5 stars. *This book was provided to me by Revell and the author. I received a copy of this book to review but I was not financially compensated in any way. The opinions expressed are my own and are based on my observations while reading this book.

Tis the season for Christmas reads to start appearing, and Melody Carlson kicks us off with another sweet contemporary novella to get us in the holiday spirit. As Winter Hill’s Christmasville celebrations get underway, Krista’s slight Grinch-like attitude contrasts to the excitement surrounding the festivities. Through her daughter and another family, Krista’s complacency toward Christmas begins to change. Fans of Hallmark movies (right down to the snow falling at the first kiss at the end) will enjoy this hope-filled, small-town read. Krista Galloway grew up in many foster homes, she is now a single parent of a eight year old daughter, Emily. They move from Phoenix to Winter Hill, Washington where Krista has a new job as city manager. The small town is famous for its Christmasville celebration, something Krista doesn’t enjoy. However Emily loves Christmas and is expecting a miracle. I liked how Melody drew out the characters. I could guess how the story would end but it was fun seeing how Melody got there. This book makes me look forward to the Christmas season. I received this book from Revell and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

This is my 16th Christmas novella by Melody Carlson, and she has yet to disappoint. With complex, realistic characters, her stories always sparkle with the fantasy of Christmas in the midst of everyday life. Krista Galloway has left her job in Phoenix as an assistant city manager to take on the role of city manager in the small town of Winter Hill Washington. Krista grew up in foster homes and never felt Christmas or her birthday on Christmas Eve got much attention. So she is somewhat of a Grinch when it comes to Christmas. But as a single mother of an eight year old daughter, Emma, she has worked hard to hide her dislike of the materialism of Christmas to make it special for her daughter. But Winter Hill is all about Christmas and their annual Christmas extravaganza called Christmasville that draws in lots of tourists and helps bring in money to the small town. So when she arrives the week before Thanksgiving, as city manager she has no choice but to become involved which, in turn, leads to all sorts of problems that divide the town's citizens. I loved that this novella is full of the Christmas spirit, great main and secondary characters, and a wonderful plot line. I felt completely drawn into Winter Hill, its citizens, and it's magical Christmas feel. The Christmas house contest was delightful, and I loved Emma's heartfelt letter. You can't finish reading this novella without feeling the warmth of Christmas.

A short, sweet holiday read, Christmas in Winter Hill will delight fans of Hallmark Christmas movies. I wouldn't be in the least surprised to hear of its being made into a screen play at some time in the future. Krista Galloway and her eight-year-old Emily moved from Phoenix to Winter Hill, Washington for Krista's new job as city manager. Krista is dismayed to learn of the city's obsession with their Christmasville celebration, having no fond Christmas memories of her own. Circumstances cause her to appear to be the town Grinch, and Krista faces disappointing Emily with another move. I am grateful to have received a copy of Christmas in Winter Hill in exchange for my honest opinion. I was under no obligation to provide a positive review and received no monetary compensation.

I love and look forward to reading Melody Carlson's newest Christmas book that comes out every year! This is no exception! The story is light, happy and will give you a "warm and fuzzy" feeling while you turn each page. Winter HillI is a magical little village that has a Christmas feel every day! Sight unseen, Krista accepts a job and relocates here with her young daughter Emily. She hopes to start fresh and find happiness for her tiny family. Krista realizes she has no idea what she has walked in to as she begins her job and meets the town folks. Can it really be a Chrstimas town? Is she scrooge in disguise? The details given are amazing and you immediately get a sense of belonging and longing to be in Winter Hill. These lovely people are what we all need these days! Terrific and a quick read!

What do you do if you’re not a fan of Christmas but take a job in a town that’s all about Christmas? Christmasville. The Christmas House. The mayor plays Santa Claus. That’s the situation Krista Galloway finds herself in Melody Carlson’s latest holiday offering, “Christmas in Winter Hill.” When single mom Krista takes a job as city manager for Winter Hill, Washington, she finds herself thrown into the middle of planning the town’s Christmasville celebration. A former foster child whose birthday is Christmas Eve, she’s always found bad things happen at Christmas time and thus isn’t a fan of the holiday. However, her 8-year-old daughter, Emily, loves Christmas and the hope it brings. As Krista struggles to overcome her poor feelings toward Christmas, the town comes together to overcome trials that threaten to shut down Christmasville. Will she ever learn to love Christmas? And will Krista and Emily find themselves a Christmas miracle? Carlson offers another delightful Christmas novella filled with romance, feel-good moments and just a little bit of intrigue. As always, the author also does a great job of developing great characters — readers will relate to Krista and her struggles and will fall in love with her adorable daughter. Krista’s assistant, Pauline, and her awesome family add greatly to the story. “Christmas in Winter Hill” also shares several encouraging themes, like troubles make us more empathetic; you can only live one day at a time; dreams can come true; overcoming abandonment; and beating the thought that some dreams are impossible and some hopes too big. “Christmas in Winter Hill” will definitely get you in the holiday spirit. Five stars out of five. The author and Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, provided this complimentary copy for my honest, unbiased review.

What’s not to love about a Melody Carlson Christmas book any time of the year. Add this one to your must read list for this holiday season or grab an extra for gift giving, as you won’t want to miss this one. Emily, the eight year old daughter of Krista will make your heart melt, especially when she tries to win a house for her mom. This story has all the ingredients for a prize winning cake when you take the first mouth watering bite. You can picture all the lights and feel the bite of cold as you are enraptured in the storyline. Of course you have to have a Scrooge that tries to throw a cog in the wheel. Be swept away for a few hours and dream of your favorite Christmas. I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.

I never miss one of Melody Carlson's Christmas tales. They are so good and hopeful. This time around a single mother and her eight year old daughter move from Phoenix to Washington state where the mom has a new job. It's nearing Christmas time and this town goes all out! Much to the mom's dismay. She has never had a good experience at Christmas time. Never. But what happens will bless you and restore her faith in Christmas again. Don't miss this wonderful little story. *My thanks to Revell Publishing for a preview copy of this book. The opinions stated here are entirely my own.
