I did not live in the time of land runs but this story made me feel the excitement, passion, and fear of that time. The story was historical and even though not a true story really portrayed the events of the time well. The characters in this story were an inspiration to ready about. Ma was strong and determined and wanted to do right for her family. Maddy overcame her fears and Nick showed how even a young child can help their family get through anything. There is a character in this book that everyone can relate to. As a teacher it was great to see Jesse James referenced and the truth of all the hardships the family went through (like the flood). This book will be great to use in a classroom!
