About the Author

Dr. Ervin Michael Johnson grew up in High Point, NC. And has since his adolescent years, served as a figure of motivation and public service to communities on an education, political and philanthropic platform. While a student at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, he noticed the condition of the communities in the area. The shooting, the murdering, the discord and quickly wanted to do something. Dr. Johnson began networking with communities around him, specifically in the socio-economically challenge neighborhoods where the killings were happening, and began to foster a voice to combat killing, school drop-outs and education.

While pursuing his doctorate, he served on the Richmond City Police Departments Faith-Based Leadership board to foster relationships between communities and police officers. Serving as a staple in the community, he created partnerships with agencies and placed programming inside of failing high schools to keep students involved, ultimately, pushing them to graduate with a direct interest in a field of academia. His non-profit the Dream Makers Academy, has served over 200 youth and their families by partnering with the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs and the Public School system. The Do Something Foundation empowers people to go out in the community and serve with their free time. Great change has come through these efforts.

I had the pleasure of picking this book up during a layover in Atlanta. It was a short read (about an hour, hour and a half if you do the work) and I must admit it was AMAZING. It challenged my thought process on slavery and even the black lives matter movement. I was empowered to do something effective by the end of this book. I really was and I am so excited to see the full book come out next year. I will definitely be following this visionary.

This book was amazing. I did read the first one but this one was far better. It captured the battle of thought that was working within my mind as I read the pages. I am thoroughly impressed and extremely motivated to get out and go do something in my community.
