Single mom Vivi Vincent is thrust into her worst nightmare when she's trapped inside a mall during a terror attack along with her eight-year-old son. With the help of Jed Brennan, an FBI special agent on enforced leave, Vivi and her son survive the assault. But the danger is far from over.

Vivi's son may have witnessed critical details of the terrorists' future plans and is targeted for death, but he's mute, and he's traumatized. Still someone launches a strike against the FBI's safe house, and Jed fears the bad guys have an inside man. No longer knowing who to trust, he hides mother and son in a log cabin deep in the heart of the Wisconsin Northwoods. There Jed and Vivi try to figure out how to unlock the information inside her son's head. What they don't bargain for is the red-hot attraction that flares between them, or the extent of the sinister plot that threatens to rip apart not only any chance of happiness they might have together, but also the very fabric of American society.

About the Author

Toni Anderson is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, RITA® nominee, science nerd, professional tourist, dog lover, gardener, mom. Originally from a small town in England, Toni studied Marine Biology at University of Liverpool (B.Sc.) and University of St. Andrews (Ph.D.) with the intention she’d never be far from the ocean. Well, that plan backfired and she ended up in the Canadian prairies with her biology professor husband, two kids, a rescue dog, and two laid-back leopard geckos. Toni started writing while pregnant with her first child and never stopped. Her greatest achievements are mastering the Tokyo subway, climbing Ben Lomond, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, and surviving fourteen Winnipeg winters (fingers crossed). She loves to travel for research purposes and was lucky enough to visit the Strategic Information and Operations Center inside FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. in 2016, and she also got to shove another car off the road during pursuit training at the Writer’s Police Academy in Wisconsin. Watch out world!

Cold Pursuit charges out of the gate with a mega-scaled terrorist attack at one of the largest malls in America. In the middle of death and chaos the heroine, Vivi, is no wilting flower waiting to be rescued. She's a mother of a special child and her passion matches those who plan her destruction. Vivi stands up to anyone and anything to protect her son drawing on the courage to face death and the relentless pursuit by cold blooded killers. Anderson's villains always smack of the diabolical and these bad guys never let up causing the deaths of innocents in the single-minded pursuit to eliminate a child because of his perceived threat. Overall a fast read and a good time.

But I am so tired of the overused damsel in distress falling for the hot, rugged, yet oh-so-sensitive FBI agent....

COLD PURSUIT by Toni Anderson book 2 in Cold Justice Series. Gripping plot that has you caught from the first page. An innocence trip to the mall, turns out to be one of terror. Her 8 year old son, how to communicate, if he saw or heard anything, when he doesn't speak. A nightmare when they find out it maybe an inside person. Jeb, with the FBI has taken a liking to Vivi, a fiery redhead and her son, and sparks do fly. Readers will enjoy this plot, characters well defined, as though you know them. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

This time around the author chose a terrorist attack as the plot. Jed is an overworked agent on a forced vacation & just happens to be at the mall shopping when the attack occurs and ends up getting personally attached to single mom, Vivi & her special 8 year old son. It's a very interesting tangled web of blackmail, deception, secrecy & even a shocking Gateway revelation of the true enemy. In the end this couple realizes they can handle it all with each other to lean on. This story wasn't quite as romantic as previous, (A Cold Dark Place) it's still a great read & it was also great to get an update on Alex & Mallory. (My review is based on the unabridged audio version which the author provided)

Cold Justice Book Two. On a shopping trip with her son, Vivi Vincent is stuck in the middle of a mall shooting.  She hides Michael in a cabinet and tries to find a way out.  Meanwhile, Special Agent Jed Brennan is trying to get as many people out as he can.  When the dust clears, they find out that Michael may have heard names or plans significant to the terrorists' plots.  However, he is a mute, eight year-old boy. Audio Review: Eric Dove narrates this series.  He utilizes multiple accents to accomplish character voices.  It is always clear who is speaking and how they are feeling. If you're looking for a fast-paced, thrilling mystery this is the book for you!

Toni is a wonderful author her writing style is outstanding, she pulls you in from page one and never lets you go. You know when you pick up one of her books it is going to be a ride of your life as grabs your attention why spinning tales and twists that you never see coming. Her books are easy to relate to as she shows us with Vivi's son and his disabilities that he overcomes to help fight the bad men and save so many. There are so many characters to love and a few you won't. The father should be shot for his treatment of his son and ex wife. Vivi loves her son and puts him first always, she knows he can be more and pushes him to his limits but is a little over protective. Jed at first I thought he was wonderful than I didn't care to much for him but he turned out to be an amazing man who stood up for what he believed in no matter the cost. His family was just to much (in a good way) I just adored his father which had me laughing. This is an action packed, intense, thrilling suspense that grips your heart and makes you hold your breath. There are times when you wish you could grab the characters and pull them to safety. Even a few of the bad guys I felt their pain and wish I could have saved them. I felt their loss and wish things could have been different. Which made the story more real to me. Eric G. Dove was the voice behind the action that Toni gave us. He is just outstanding with his many voices you forget you are listening to a book. He put the humor right in the read I loved to hear his chuckles and his many tones as he bought the book to life for me. He has a very smooth voice with the correct tones and the roughness when it needed. He has a voice I could listen to all day. Toni gives an outstanding plot and story which pulls you in and Eric closes the deal for me. Toni is one of my favorite authors if you haven't read or listen to any of her books you should. She writes about today issues you can relate to throws in a few punches along the way. Grips your heart and soul as she tells a compelling thrilling suspense. When I see her name I know I have to have the book. I love her audio's she has the best narrators as she shows us again Cold Pursuit. I can't wait to read or listen to the rest of the Cold Justice series

This action packed sequel to In a Cold Dark Place is a take-your-breathe-away suspense with more than a breath of romance.  I normally don't like roller coasters but this ride was a blast, loved it! Trapped in a mall when terrorist start shooting, Vivi Vincent hides her, maybe autistic, son so she can try to find a nearby store with an exit. Before she finds an exit, she is encounters an FBI special agent who insists that she takes away the two children she had found under the body of their mother before the baby's crying reveals their location. He promises that she will be able to come back, but of course no one will let her return. When news announce that her son was in the store where several terrorist stayed, then shows a segment taped earlier in the day that shows that her son does not speak but he can draw from memory anyone that he has seen even for a second, she must surrender to witness protection to keep him safe. The FBI agent manages to get onto the task force and keep an eye on them. The task force determines that the terrorist from must have a secondary plan they the boy might have overheard because they are persistent in trying to kill him!

¿A vivid, imaginative and sinister game of international manipulation.¿  My rating: 5 of 5 ¿¿ After coming to Minneapolis to see yet another specialist, Vivi Vincent is browsing the toystore with her eight-year old son Micheal in the mall, when suddenly explosions and gunfire erupts around them. She manages to keep her son hidden and find help in the form of an off duty FBI agent, who is unwittingly thrown in the centre of the action. Both Vivi and her son come away physically unharmed, but many aren't so lucky. On a forced 'vacation', FBI special agent Jed Brennan happens to be in the mall doing some Christmas shopping when all hell breaks out around him. Unarmed and ill-prepared for what is obviously a well-planned and executed attack, he does what he can to help as many as possible to escape the gunfire. So too the fiery redhead whose son may have seen and heard more than is safe for him. Even mute, the information the boy holds is a danger to the terrorist group and potentially invaluable to authorities. When the safe house where Vivi and her son are being guarded is compromised and once again, they both narrowly escape with their lives, Jed decides to take matters into his own hands. He hides them away on a family property in a cabin where they can try and figure out how to get through to the now severly traumatized child. From the start there has been a strong attraction between Vivi and Jed that circumstances would not permit exploration, but in close quarters in a cabin, their chemistry seems impossible to suppress. Yet somehow, even far off the beaten path, deep in the woods, they were nowhere near as safe as they thought they were. Someone was able to find them. A plot had been set in motion that was so much bigger than anyone suspected and the key was locked inside the head of a little eight-year old boy. ***** OMG!! Once again, Toni Anderson completely blows me away!! The intricate plot-weaving is just amazing. Combine that with a slightly fallible, hotter than Hades leading man and a somewhat bruised but not quite beaten, kick-ass heroine, and throw in a vulnerable, smart as sin, little boy...... you have me sold! The characters are phenomenal. I actually particularly enjoyed Michael, the little boy, who may seem like a victim and vulnerable from the outside, but in fact is much stronger and in control than we give him credit for, as you will see when the story plays out. Vivi has wrapped herself and her son in a protective cloak after a very negative experience, and has found security in keeping the two of them teamed up 'against the world', so to speak. Trust is a prized commodity and she doesn't give it easily, hasn't really given anyone her trust since her divorce. Until Jed.  Growing up with rather non-conformist parents, it probably isn't a surprise that Jed seems to skim the edges of the rule book of the FBI. Fighting hard not to break yet another rule, he tries to keep from getting involved with Vivi, a witness, but it seems a futile battle. Both her and her son have already worked their way under his skin. Something he didn't ever think could happen again. This story gave me chills. It reminded me of the chaos theory; When a butterfly beats its wings in Central Park...... etcetera...... You've heard it before, the ripple effect. Something relatively small happens in the grand scope of the world, yet it warps and distorts the entire structure, threatening the very foundation. It's a terrifying concept, but so well handled by Toni Anderson, who manages to bridge the gap between the small town events in the north of Minnesota to the large arena of world politics.  Honestly?? I think I'm actually a little afraid of Toni Anderson now!! What a wicked, wicked mind she has! Good thing she knows her way around swoon-worthy he-men and writes a mean sex scene as well. Fast becoming one of my go-to writers!! ¿A vivid, imaginative and sinister game of international manipulation.¿  **Copy provided in return for an honest review.**
