CHAPTER 1

Riding, plowing, here and there, Garbage Truck worked everywhere. He twisted and turned down every street, Working his way along the concrete.

Heaving, lifting cans off the ground, Making enormous clanging sounds. Across the street he heard a laugh, Pointed fingers — his heart shrank in half.

"Look at that smelly and stinky big truck!" They taunted and laughed as he stood so dumbstruck. Never before had he thought himself smelly, But he now heard the snickers that rang from their bellies.

His trusty compactor got silent and still, His smile less vibrant as he went down the last hill. His wheels started to slow and then came to a halt, Heat making his tires stick to the hot day's asphalt.

"I quit!" he bellowed for all the neighbors to hear. "No longer will I be stinky; I'll just disappear." So off he zoomed, their words still in his head, Hoping to forget the rotten things they all said.

Giggles still rang as he drifted from sight; The townspeople cheered, thinking they now were alright. No longer would they have to deal with his smell. "Good riddance," they all said with a yell.

The days turned to weeks as time quickly passed; The town began changing and was quite a contrast. Bags and debris lined the roads and the alleys; Bottles and wrappers flowed through the valleys.

Sidewalks were covered with boxes and bags, And the townspeople knew they must wave their white flags. They realized the grave mistake they had made; They needed their Garbage Truck to come to their aid.
