Anything this author writes is great, written with passion and love for her characters. In this story you see how life and love got in the way in the marriage of Dec and Lila as they both made selfish mistakes that affected their marriage and family. I loved how the author took us back through their marriage so that the reader could see the decisions they had made which would alter their kids and marriage, and not in a good way. There is no series by this author I would not read. She is that good!

This was difficult for me as half of a dual military couple. Many of the things that happened and stuff that wasn't mentioned have also happened in our lives and effected our kids and our marriage as it has friends and coworkers. The constant giving of oneself in service to others as a military member, first responder, or any number of stressful on-demand professions puts a heavy strain on families and can effect everyone's mental health. It was good to read a story that addresses these challenges and realisticly overcomes the roadblocks to a positive future.

I loved this series by Kathryn Shay! Come Back To Me is the final book in her To Serve and Protect series and it was my favorite. Declan and Lila have always loved one another, but for some reason could never get on the same page concerning their life and how they want live it. Declan could be extremely selfish about his job and where they lived and expected Lila to just go along with it. Finding themselves at a crossroad once again Lila chose to walk away, but in doing so she left her children also which many found unforgivable. Finding them all once again living in the same town Lila realizes just how much she wants to spend time with her children and Declan as well. When their daughter's needs supersede their own they realize just how much they still love each other and want to be a family once again. I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

What fabulous story of young love that was spoiled by life getting in the way. Both Declan and Lila seemed to have moved on. But as they try to be there for their children a situation that tore them apart just may bring them back together when they find they still really do love each other and want another chance. Ms. Shay does a wonderful job of bringing touchy real life issues into her stories and having her characters face them. This is the 5th and final story of the Marino Family. Have enjoyed all of the books in this series and how this family will be there and help each and every member even those that become family through marriage. Believe this last book may be my favorite of the 5 and disappointed this is the end. I received a complimentary ebook from the author and am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this great book!

COME BACK TO ME by Kathryn Shay book 5 "To Serve and Protect" series Declan.and Lila, he'd love since he was eighteen, and 3 children and 1 divorce later. Was it just that he wouldn't move, that caused the divorce back then. Now, he is here, still a trauma surgeon, still with the National Guards. The last three years she has set up and does phone counseling, with veterans. Delighted to share time with the girls.when he was having to work.. Life got away from them, stubborn not willing to compromise was that the reasons. How far will Lila go this time for her girls, having left them once. A powerful story, of choices they made, would we have, makes the readers ponder the questions..Always looking for the next book by Kathryn Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Ending of the Marino family's saga, with the beginning of the next one. Declan Marino and his wife Lila have separated and thrown their kinds into disarray, in one case more seriously than they can imagine. They've thrown themselves into chaos, too. They don't really know how to live apart, but they have hurt each other too much to stay together. Choosing the lives they chose made their marriage difficult, with too many unrepaid sacrifices. When they are thrown together by tragedy, they find the strength to focus on their love and their children in order to make their future brighter.

Declan and Lila were young and in high school when they met and fell in love. Eventually they married and started a family at which life seemed to always throw curve balls and at such a young age, selfishness on both sides seemed to be the primary theme. It wasn't until Dec and Lila almost lost everything that they realized what they had lost in each other. Will they be able to admit mistakes and forgive each other to have their happily ever after? This story is a wonderful end to the Marino series. It is a heavy story and many parts are difficult to read but is reality. What a great way to end the series.

Once again, Ms Shay gives us a story that is “real”. Where the characters are imperfect, are struggling as individuals and as parents, and walk a road that has not been smooth In this book, we have Declan Marino and Delilah (Lila) Carrier. They were HS sweethearts, and later married but life was not easy. These two serve their country and at one point , Declan’s deployments became too much for Lila. She felt stifled , and oppressed. They end up hurting each other to the point of living together is no longer an option. Now he is taking care of his three girls, and is moving to a new rental , where they will be closer to their Mom’s life. Declan and Lila are filled with regrets, resentments, lack of communication, fears, misconceptions, and doubts. But still , the love is hidden under all their issues. Will they be able to have a second chance in love or will this be the end of that hopeful light? Aside from the complex plot and characters, the author highlights the stress and tough situations that not only those in the military go through, but also their families. In addition to this, she reminds us that no one’s life is perfect but with love , support , commitment and communication, the wrinkles can be overcome. Include the children in that communication. Frequently they feel forgotten. Another heartbreaking, heartwarming and thought provoking story by this very talented author. I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
