About the Author

Robin Nelson's careers have always kept her surrounded by books—as an elementary teacher, working at a publishing company, and now working as a school library media specialist. But her favorite job is writing books for kids. She has written many nonfiction books for children. She lives with her family in Minneapolis.

K-Gr 2-These two books are cleverly laid out with a black-and-white photo on one page and a modern, full-color photo opposite, showing how people live "then and now." For example, sending messages on a telegraph is contrasted with talking on a telephone, getting your news via the Pony Express is paired with using the Internet (Communication), and riding in a horse-drawn buggy is coupled with riding in a car (Transportation). One short sentence appears beneath each photo and words in bold in the text are defined in the glossary. Each book ends with a list of unusual facts, such as "The price of the first Ford Model T in 1908 was $850."
