VAMPIRE . . . Raphael is a power like the world has never seen, the force behind the first ever alliance of North American lords, Cyn's mate, lover, master.
SORCERER . . . Nick Katsaros, deceptively charming, ancient and commanding, driven by vengeance and a devastating loss, Cyn's friend and one-time lover.
HUMAN . . . Cynthia "Cyn" Leighton, beautiful, sexy, and smart, the woman both men desire.
It was only a few months ago that Raphael lay helpless and dying, taken by treachery, while Cyn fought to save him. Unexpectedly, it was Nick who provided the key to his freedom. In exchange, he secured a promise that they would help him find and recover the same magical artifact that had been used to imprison Raphael. But when he calls on them to keep that promise, it will be Cyn who pays the price.
Torn between the two powerful men, struggling to keep them from killing each other, she undertakes a desperate search that will find her fighting for her life against a madman who wants her for himself.

My favorite couple, Cyn and Raphael of the Vampires in America series, are back to make good on a promise to Cyn’s former lover, Nick, who has turned out to be a very powerful sorcerer. Nick is so powerful his abilities rival that of Raphael. And since Raphael is the most powerful vampire Lord in the world that is no small thing. When worlds collide is a good metaphor for the epic magic and testosterone fueled battle which puts Cyn in the middle between her soulmate and a man she cares deeply for and wants to help. While the snarling, growling, “sausage fest” as Cyn calls the men’s aggression towards each other is going on, she decides in her usual fashion to recover a magical artifact herself especially now that it seems Cyn has some previously unrealized special abilities. And most readers will know what usually happens when Cyn takes off against Raphael’s wishes to do things her own way. Nobody holds Cyn back when she makes up her mind to complete a task including macho Vampires, secretive sorcerers, or an evil madman who thinks he can possess her. Cyn’s two dominant males put on a display that reminded me of fighting dragons with Raphael’s possessive meter amped up to critical mass while Nick barely holds his considerable powers back baiting the Vampire every chance he gets. Vampires and Sorcerers having been mortal enemies from the beginning so Cyn’s prior relationship with Nick only adds fuel to the already hot-blooded fire. And with Nick added to the mix, much high vampire/sorcerer drama ensues while we find out about Nick’s background and the quest that has been his main purpose for millennia. I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this novella. Cyn and Raphael’s relationship dance composed of two strong, stubborn, and sensual people is always a pleasure to watch. Now that so much about Nick is being revealed, especially about his mission, I know we will see him in again in the future. Fans will be doing the happy dance with this entry in the series that continues to delight and entertain in a very good way. ARC provided by NetGalley.
Ahhh, Raphael and Cyn are back. If you don't know who they are, then you should go back to the beginning....Here is the blurb from book 1: Raphael. Malibu, California—home to rock-and-roll gods and movie stars, the beautiful, the rich . . . and vampires. Powerful and charismatic, Raphael is a Vampire Lord, one of the few who hold the power of life and death over every vampire in existence. Thousands call him Master and have pledged absolute loyalty on their very lives. But when, in a brazen and deadly daylight attack, a gang of human killers kidnaps the one female vampire he’d give his life for, Raphael turns to a human investigator to find his enemies before it’s too late. Cynthia Leighton is smart, tough and sexy, a private investigator and former cop who’s tired of spying on cheating spouses and digging out old bank accounts. When Raphael asks for her help in tracking down the kidnappers, Cyn’s happy to accept. But she soon realizes her greatest danger comes not from the humans, but from Raphael himself. Battling Russian mobsters and treacherous vampires, and betrayed by those they trusted, Cyn and Raphael find themselves fighting for their lives while caught up in a passion of blood and violence that is destined to destroy them both. Soooo...After so many wonderful standalone books in the series about other vampire lords, (they all have their own territories, i.e. The West, The Northeast, ect.) We all have come to realize that the most beloved couple in the series is Cyn and Raphael, so D.B. gave us a very special treat in the form of the Cyn and Raphael Novellas. And Compelled is the 4th Novella in the series. The first three are, Betrayed, Hunted, and Unforgiven. When we start Compelled, it is a month after Raphael was captured and almost killed, thanks to a pair of magical cuffs. Cyn received help from ex-lover, Nick. Nick is a centuries old sorcerer, who Cyn thought was a plain, old, human until he helped her rescue Raphael. But, his help came at a price, and in Compelled, it comes due. Nick enlists Cyn...and though Nick doesn't want him, Raphael's help, in looking for the cuffs which were left behind after Raphael was rescued. This, of course, causes all sorts of tension, barbed insults and what-not to be exchanged throughout the book which our poor Cyn plays referee. But it is Cyn who is thrust into danger when the thief of the cuffs decides he wants her. As always, D.B. Reynolds gives us another book filled with suspense, laughter, and plenty of panty-melting sex. I absolutely LOVE this series and have since Raphael first came out. And let's face it. vampires are most definitely kinky, especially these vampires. (Check out Adan, wink wink) I can never put these books down once I pick them up, forgoing sleep, food, you name it. These are some hot vampires! But don't take my word for it, Pick up Compelled and check it out for yourself!
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!! ***Received ebook from Belle Books for an honest review This is a novella in the Vampires in America series. It falls after Christian in the series. I highly recommend reading everything in order including all the novellas and short stories. Everything clicks together much more cohesively and is just awesome when you aren’t missing details. I don’t know about you, but I hate when something is mentioned in a book that happened and I don’t know what happened. Details are important to me, and D.B. Reynolds books are always action packed and full of well everything a vampire loving paranormal addict wants. This story picks up the search for the handcuffs. Raphael and Nick use the word vampire and sorcerer like they are cussing at each other. The tension and hate is extreme at times. Cyn is fabulous as always. I love her spirit and passion for everything. I highly recommend everything because I think I’ve read almost everything there is to read by her and have yet to find something I didn’t thoroughly enjoy and love. I can’t wait to start the new series where is a spin-off about Nick’s stone friends.
D.B.Reynolds has delivered another breathtaking story in this fast-paced, enthralling and passionate series; is it any wonder I can’t get enough. Two impossibly powerful beings, each harbouring enough distrust and hatred to cause the tectonic plates to shift, are thrown together for a common goal; but will the love they share for exquisite Cyn, be enough to prevent them unleashing the soul deep violence they yearn to deliver. Called upon to uphold the promise she made at the time of Raphael’s rescue in Hawaii, Cyn is sought out by Nick to help recover the elusive amber manacles. But no one separates Raphael from his mate, and while Nick may appear to be a handsome, quick witted human; as Cyn’s former lover and a disgusting necromancer, Raphael has no intention of allowing Cyn to be alone with this sorcerer while they attempt to locate the bewitched cuffs. Subjected to two alpha males posturing and undermining each others reason for existence, Cyn attempts to mediate and not kill them both herself during their travels from state to state. But pushed to her limits, Cyn is compelled to seek the manacles current owner solo to escape the constant tension between her former lover and the Vampire mate she would die for in a heartbeat. As with all the stories in this fabulous series, COMPELLED provides marvellous dialogue, exceptional world building and continues to exhibit the unquenchable passion between this captivating couple. And just to keep the juices flowing and to whet your appetite for more, there is an exciting snippet at the end of the story to introduce some characters that will grace the pages of the coming spin-off series The Stone Warriors.
