Confessions of a Prayer Slacker by Diane Moody

Let's face it. Most of us are clueless at praying. Why is that? And how come we've never done anything about it? Let's face it. Most of us are clueless at praying. Why is that? And how come we've never done anything about it? In Confessions of a Prayer Slacker, author Diane Moody traces her own personal prayer journey with a touch of humor and a healthy dose of transparency. ''I want my readers to stop the merry-go-round of prayerlessness, quit acting like a bunch of spiritual babies, and get serious about this thing called prayer. Without it, we'll never experience the warm, one-on-one relationship God desires to have with each one of us.''

About the Author

Born in Texas and raised in Oklahoma, Diane Hale Moody is a graduate of Oklahoma State University. She lives with her husband Ken in the rolling hills just outside of Nashville. They are the proud parents of two grown and extraordinary children, Hannah and Ben. Just after moving to Tennessee in 1999, Diane felt the tug of a long-neglected passion to write again. Since then, she's written a column for her local newspaper, feature articles for various magazines and curriculum, and several novels with a dozen more stories eagerly vying for her attention. Her first book, Confessions of a Prayer Slacker, released in August of 2010. She also co-authored Don't Ever Look Down: Surviving Cancer Together, with Dick & Debbie Church about their journey through breast cancer. The Runaway Pastor's Wife, her debut novel, released on Kindle and paperback in 2011. Her newest release, Tea with Emma, is the first installment of The Teacup Novellas, available now on Kindle. When she's not reading or writing, Diane enjoys an eclectic taste in music and movies, great coffee, the company of good friends, and the adoration of a peculiar little puppy named Darby.

I guess I've read too many guilt-inducing tomes on prayer because this one ain't. Instead I felt inspired to start a actual prayer life (in contrast to the under-the-breath desperate mutterings I'm prone to), while laughing out loud at the author's wit and transparency of her own prayer struggles. This will energize you (while artfully knocking each excuse out from under you) to get serious about prayer. Guilt not included!

What a wonderful book for the would be prayer warrior! Ms. Moody removed all of the excuses by claiming them for herself. Then, with love and humor, gives direction and guidance, step by step to encourage all to develop a full and complete prayer life, along with a loving, trusting relationship with our Lord. A must read for all who are "too busy" to spend time in prayer.

I confess that I am a prayer slacker. I sincerely appreciate the mix of practical, concrete advice and powerful inspiration about WHO prayer is all about. I have my Bible, several neglected prayer journals, and an appointment with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit tomorrow morning.

Enjoyed the book as an entertaining story but also for the good advice. And it did make me want to take my prayers to a higher level!

I giggled through the entire book. I loved Moody's honesty and self depreciation. Her advise is very sound. I recommend this.

This is my second read by this author, first was a novel, "Home to Walnut Ridge." I found this book so helpful and motivating without being condescending - truly an inspiring read, causing me to want a closer pray life with God. Love her humor!
