Józef Brandt (1841 in Szczebrzeszyn – 1915 in Radom) was a Polish painter that excelled in painting horses and battle scenes. Brandt held a polish noble title and owned a manor that he used as an informal art school 100 km south of Warzaw.
Brandt is especially known for his Cossack paintings, this warrior group from the steppes of what is today Ukraine and who were used by the Russian generals to harass Napoleon during his ill-fated campaign in Russia.
