Countdown to Zero Hour by Nico Rosso

Fans of Maya Banks's KGI series will love this explosive new romantic suspense series from Nico Rosso, featuring black ops agents and the women they'll do anything to protect

Former Special Forces agent Artem "Art" Diaz is tattooed, muscular and undeniably dangerous. He's also deep undercover, posing as mob muscle for a deadly bratva boss. His mission: gain the Russians' trust. Then lead the strike team that will take them down.

Chef Hayley Baskov knows better than to get involved with someone with such close mafia ties, but the handsome bodyguard who brought her to this sprawling estate full of ruthless mobsters is inexplicably kind. A little flirtation may keep her safe amid the growing menace.

As Art's timetable for action escalates, so do his encounters with Hayley. Stealing what illicit pleasure they can keeps them both sane in the face of evil. But when things get dangerous, Art has to tell her about his assignment, bringing her deeper into the shadowy world of black ops…and putting her life on the line.

Now Art has a new objective: protect Hayley from the men who'd see them both dead.

Excellent start to a new action suspense romance series. Lots of military targeting lingo, perfect use of Russian slang and design of the russian mafia hierarchy, hot chemistry between the hero and heroine, well designed good and bad guys. Loved it and am looking forward to more in the series.

Nico Rosso is a new to me author and I went in not knowing what to expect. I found that I enjoyed Rosso's writing and his original story plot. Countdown to Zero Hour had a bit darker feel to it then I anticipated. It was a good story and I found myself interested, yet my emotions stayed the same throughout. Maybe because I took on those of the Hayley, the heroine of the story. She was a guarded just about the entire time. I felt the pace of the book was a little slower than I was hoping for, as when I read romantic suspense, I want more of those fast paced ups and downs that the genre tends to take you on. There was more calculation in this one. Maybe a little more reality as to what undercover work is like. I found the way Art went about his job to be interesting though, and that isn't something you always get in the fast paced books. The romance between Art and Hayley was the highlight of the story for me. I enjoyed their small moments of intimacy whether in a touch or a look or even a whisper. The love scenes seemed to fit the characters and the story well. The big ending had lots of action and I was glad to see the good guys win. I only wish there was more interaction between Rolan and Art near the end as I felt there was a buildup that didn't quite come to fruition. The epilogue left me with a nice happy ever after, though, so all is good. If you are looking for a solid, romantic suspense book with undercover operatives, give Countdown to Zero Hour a try.

## Too slow. Not for me.

Countdown to Zero Hour is the first in a new romantic suspense series. This book reads like a television show. Russian mobsters and a secret black ops company, the thing that saves this book is that it is Art’s first job with Automatik so he can be forgiven the breaches in protocol and I adored Hayley. While she is a civilian in all this she doesn’t let anything get her down for long. She holds her own even when scared spitless. Check your brain at the door and enjoy.

Fiery, out of work chef, Hayley, is forcefully enlisted by the Russian mafia to become the chef for a clandestine meeting of all the families. Art is deep undercover, entrenched in the Russian mafia, trying to break the organization from the inside when Hayley stumbles her way into a no win situation. Arts goal to destroy the Russian families is side tracked by his desire to save Hayley and just flat out his desire for Hayley. This had all the makings of an incredible spicy romantic suspense. For me, it ended up becoming a lot of spice with threatening situation that Art and Hayley intensified themselves because they couldn’t contain their hormones. I also found the characters repetitive, which completely removed any connection that would start to build for me with their plight. Overall, I found Countdown to Zero Hour okay. If you are looking for a steamy read, Countdown to Zero Hour does brings the heat. Kudos on that cover! I received this ARC copy of Countdown to Zero from Carina Press in exchange for a honest review.

I could not put this book down once I started to read it! I really really REALLY liked this book. The book was intense, gripping, tight and action-packed. I loved Hayley and Art as characters and found them very believable. Hayley is a chef…a very good chef…one that has found herself in debt and working on the sidewalks selling food outside a Russian mafia club. Art is the body guard for the mafia boss in the area and after sampling Hayley’s dumplings she is a shoe-in for a catering job she can’t say no to. Art is big, broad, handsome and lethal. Hayley is bright, talented, strong and unbending. Both Art and Hayley are drawn to one another but wonder how it will ever work out with so many bad guys around and so much on the line. I enjoyed the writing, the action, the love story, the introduction of the characters that will get their own stories in the future and highly recommend this book to people who like romantic suspense. Thank you to NetGalley and Carina Press for the copy of this book to read and review.
